Ty! I love to hear the bugeling! I have seen elk up on Balsam Mt.near the Mile High post. What is your opinion on when the foliage will be starting to turn ? I always seem to miss peak when I get up there. I usually stay in Cherokee. I keep hearing it may not be good because of drought. I thought it best to ask an actual local! Ty for sharing! Blessings!
We do as well, it’s an amazing sound. Foliage will start in the highest elevations, the first week in October and progress downward through the first week in November. For peak by elevation or location, you can see our Fall Forecast & Guide: blueridgemountainlife.com/fall-foliage/ - we are expecting a good leaf year so far. We are no longer in a drought here in WNC. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Larry … been there many times but never saw the elk there…. I agree that Cataloochee is a more natural setting to view them. Iam grateful to see them in your videos !! Why do some of the elk in cataloochee have bands on their necks and these elk don’t. ? God bless you for all your efforts to bring joy to me and others in all your videos!!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. The bands are tracking collars, some have them, some don’t. I am not sure if the criteria for when the park service puts them on and when they don’t. Some in Cataloochee don’t have them now either. Seems they are putting them on less and less now.
Truly majestic and beautiful animals. When my family and I were at that Visitor Center in Late July we were able to see some cows but that was well into dusk. Thank you for the great video.
Absolutely beautiful! We were lucky enough to see them yesterday after leaving Clingman’s Dome. We’ve been here 3 months and leave on Monday. If it wasn’t for all the cars pulled to the side of the road, I would’ve thought they were cows! We were able to get some really nice pictures of the big male. Beautiful scenery all around!
Sorry, behind on comments! Those two were some big boys, probably some of the largest in the park. Those are tracking devices, the park uses them to track movements, and to know if they are sick or maybe injured.
This was recorded this on Sunday evening (9/12) - So yes on a weekend. Sunday's area little less busy than Friday and Saturday, but definitely more busy than during the week. Thank you so much for watching, and glad you found the information helpful. Let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you for sharing the awesome video!
AMAZING! Thank You!
Our pleasure! We love the Elk, and enjoy sharing the videos of them.
We are visiting next week, I hope they are still around!
They will definitely be around and still very active.
Amazing capture!! Love these animals.
Thank you! We do as well.

Glad you got to see them! Thank you for watching! Definitely a beautiful place and amazing animals.
I plan on visiting the beginning of October will they still be in the rut and bugling
Yes, most definitely. Rut usually goes through mid to late October.
What time of year did you go?
@@skeeterjay1 Rut runs from mid-Sept through mid-October. But pre rut had started now. We saw some large bulls bugling last night!
Good video my friend! Those last two elk were huge! Was that a bell or tracking device I was on one of the small elk in the river?

Thank you for the video and the information on your webpage. Just curious if this was during the week or on a weekend?
