Fished a stream on the N.C. side of the park yesterday, mostly green, and a lot of leaves are gone. The smokies are very beautiful, but fall colors are very dull this year, thanks to Helene.
Thanks. I am heading over there next week for my annual trek to the GSMNP and was wondering how things were progressing in the foliage dept. Love Soco Falls, been there several times. New Sub.
Fall colors got better from 6:25 on, beautiful drive thru the mountains, but this Fall the colors are much duller, as Hurricane Helen stopped the reds and oranges from coming out, too much rain in late Sept
Definitely. Up to that point, we were at lower elevations where they aren't at peak yet. The colors are very gray overall, due to foliage being blown off and lots of bare trees. Also agree on not enough rain during the summer, and too much recently. Caused many trees to stress, losing their leaves and having less color. Appreciate you watching!
Because we enjoy water? But at those elevations, there wasn't much color, so we figured we would at least feature some pretty water scenes with a little color.
Not really. Colors begin at the highest elevations in early October and progress down through October. The park has areas with lots of different elevations.
@@terrybane6206 We actually trend the leaf colors each year, and while it's different by a few days here and there, overall the trend hasn't shifted that much. Although, you are correct, it has been moving a few days later over the past 5 years. The colors don't seem to be as vivid either.
Great video. I love Maggie Valley,North Carolina and the Great Smoky Mountains. TFS. 😊

Great video.. what’s the best time to see peak fall colors this year ? oct 25th or oct 31st ?
@@amardeepreddy5826 thank you. Depends on elevation: blueridgemountainlife.com/fall-foliage/
Great video!! We're visiting next week, October 28th. Do you think we might catch a glimpse of it?
Why do you keep going to brooks/streams no color there~!
Because we enjoy water? But at those elevations, there wasn't much color, so we figured we would at least feature some pretty water scenes with a little color.
At the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, there was no Fall Colors at all
Correct, too low of elevation for it to turn yet. Color is by elevation, as I mentioned in our video.
Just a little early. Stay tuned....

@@Blueridgemountainlife The timing is different every year. The peak seems to be getting later and later in most areas as opposed to past decades.
