My daughter got married in Sedona a little over 10 years ago. She was living in Scottsdale at that time. I'm so glad I got to enjoy Sedona then. Totally different now.

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Sedona in '85 and had a very pleasant time. OMG, what a commercial spot it has become. I long for the Arizona I grew up in in the 60's and 70s...

I took beautiful 89A South of Flagstaff to Sedona. Halfway there, NO traffic. Then it was horrible 'bumper to bumper' traffic all the way into Uptown Sedona that took over an hour & a half!! I almost ran out of gas when my GPS showed 25 minutes into Sedona, it quickly changed to 1 hour 40 minutes because there was suddenly so much bumper to bumper traffic. The one lane road either way on 89A sets a driver up to a possible long journey!! God forbid a car stalls or there are any accidents. Yes, it is a gorgeous drive, much more beautiful in person than on this video. Now I only take HWY 17 into Oak Creek to Sedona. I just feel it is easier and safer. If you want to take 89A, look at a map, have a full tank of gas and a tire check up, plus go early, because when it gets dark out, it is pitch black outside on extremely winding roads all the way into Sedona on 89A.

Thats how bad it gets, to many people!😖ugh it was so beautiful back in 2000, we can live peacefully and enjoy our hometown, now is so crowded and it takes forever to go anywhere. We obviously hate that.

As a native Arizona son I lived in Sedona in the early70s.
Spent summers as a kid up in the canyon. Call of the canyon lodge, Indian gardens, rainbow trout lake
Much of this is gone now.
Red rock crossing, the 1 Sri sign at the Y. Yea only old timers know what I'm talking about.

just from watching this video, I can see it really grew...almost too much. I visited back in the 70s where telaquapaki was pretty much the only place there aside from the church and the oak creek owl restaurant. the town was very small.

This brings back so many memories! I was lucky enough to go to Sedona in 1986, one year before it got built up. I have a hard time recognizing some parts now. I do remember camping along Oak Creek and feeling that vibe! Fortunately, I've felt that vibe in Jerome, too recently. Thank you for posting.

I was practically brought up in the Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon/Phoenix area. I had an uncle and aunt and cousins who were born and raised there in Oak Creek Canyon. Oak Creek Canyon is still a great place to be, so quiet, serene and beautiful, but Sedona has gone way too commercial nowadays. And, the spring/summer traffic is outrageous. I don't love Sedona as much as I used to. Oak Creek Canyon I still love though.

    • @spark_6710
      @spark_6710 ปีที่แล้ว

That's too bad !! Too commercialized touristy areas are places I usually try to avoid ! I get it ! Especially for people grew up in the area ,or living there ,or near by must be fed up with over tourism, I bet !! On the other hand ,I feel bad/ guilty as I'm a tourist going there spending money ( my sister/ her husband's treat ,though ) ! My sister's hubby is from Arizona, but he's never been there before !
Deserts are mysterious to me & love that !! I feel some strange powers from those deserts always ! Lol One thing I am not excited about visiting deserts is my allergy issues ! I'll be taking some medications / nasal spray there . I don't take any medication, so ,I hate doing that ! Hopefully not a lot !! Also hoping that commercialization of Sedona will stop now ! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🏜💞

@DRich1 Has the infrastructure picked up? The flooding has put off my move as well. Or…does Chandler, Gilbert, Sedona, and Phoenix city side not get flooded and home flood insurance rates to go up/damaged? I just have this fantasy that if my move goes well and I’m nicely settled in…somebody, if not Elon musk, ought to work on taking advantage of AZ’s heat, sunlight, and terrain to make the state safer for maneuvering, and cleaner and cheaper ways of powering land & real estate. And there should be high-tech Wells within cities or on the outskirts to capture and filter rainwater

Planning to make it into Sedona really early and hoping that makes a difference with traffic. Like another commenter said, it get's really bad. Last time I was there it was 7 am and it was bumper to bumper but once you get past the major hiking areas it wasn't so bad. And the hikes were not as crowded as I thought but my friend and I purposely chose a hike that would have made it difficult for kids and families. The good thing is there are hikes for everyone. But weekends are kind of crazy busy. I hope we get lucky and it's not so busy when we go again.

My wife & I have been going to Sedona over 25 years. We stopped going! Sedona has become so popular that the roads/parking/infrastructure can’t handle the amount of tourist. It’s nearly impossible to find parking for trail heads, restaurants, or any other attraction you might want to try. We hiked Devils Arch New Year’s Day. At 6:30am there was over 100 people waiting to get a picture on the arch. There were jerks yelling at parents with kids to hurry up. It’s one of those places where a miss step or stumble means your death after falling 100 feet down. Unless you like New York style crowds, don’t bother. It’s just not enjoyable anymore

Arcosanti is a very early, still somewhat in progress, demonstration of architect Paolo Soleri's philosophy of making man fit nature, not vice versa - much, much more to be said about this. (for the brave, and willing to put in some effort to find a copy - read Arcoloogy - The City in the Image of Man) There are residents, and visiting students. Calling Arcosanti a village is ...um... Like calling ASU a town. Frankly, if a visitor doesn't have at least a vague idea of what Arcosanti is, it's probably not a great use of time. For anyone wanting to buy the bells designed by Soleri and his students (and still made), the gift shop is, of course, one of two places, in the Phoenix area, to buy them - Cosanti, in Scottsdale, is the other.
Sedona - the Pink Jeeps! There's nothing like them in the area! Routes are like ordering Mexican: mild, spicy, or HOT!!. Broken Arrow is the hot, hot, hot choice - don't miss it!

When I was in Scottsdale I visited Cosanti and bought a Paolo Soleri bell. Arcosanti is on my bucket list. Been to Sedona several times, too touristy for me, who buys all that "stuff". Did enjoy your tour though.

Thank you 🙏🏼 Loved the tour and your choice of music was so relaxing ! By any chance is there a 5 star hotel near all the shops you visited ? The shops right before you continued to 89A. I just wanted a hotel with Beautiful views really . Thanks again .

I can't wait to move to Sedona, not just visit anymore! The Oak Creek Canyon is a slice of heaven, except for the over-tourism. I bet if the national forest charged more for the parking, it would slow things down. The canyon home owners downstream of slide rock have a creek full of piss and vinegar most of the time. You swam in a cleaner part of the creek, for sure.
There is a problem with traffic in Sedona. To go from the village to uptown or west sedona can take a grueling one hour! This traffic jam happens every day!

I prefer Cottonwood for living and visiting Sedona is just 12 miles away.
