      The essence of all slavery consists in taking the product of another's labor by force. It is immaterial whether this force be founded upon ownership of the slave or ownership of the money that he must get to live.

      Just look at the U.S. for the highly profitable law & order prisons and detention centers. The US justice system now controls about 7 million people of which 1/2 are on probation. If arrested and can’t make bail to freaking bad in you stay. Corporations like Starbucks,Victoria’s Secret,etc inmates get paid .23 an hour. This year I cancelled my Prime membership, and managed to do very little shopping on Amazon. If a lot of people did that, problem solved...? Well it's not that easy...
    Their insane amount of money can buy some good PR, so it's gonna take a lot of Jonathan Pies to make people associate Amazon with evil.
    But I think we've already done a good job denting Facebook and Google's reputations - many people think of privacy infringement and political bias when they think of those companies.
    We can definitely make a difference if these memes spread.

    • @carlanderson8799
      @carlanderson8799 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      The problem isn't corporations - it's the *system* that allows them to act like this!
      This is exactly what a capitalistic system ALWAYS will lead to in the end!

    • @rick-potts
      @rick-potts 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Justen Smith - no, its the system. It isnt the corporations fault for exploiting tax loopholes, or workers - its the system that permits it. NO company is too rich to be taxed - but many states are too scared to do the taxing. Dont blame the child for eating chocolate of you give him the keys to the sweetshop.

    • @joshuafarrell8516
      @joshuafarrell8516 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@rick-potts No, because if you try to tax them, they leave. If they leave, you lose out on taxing the money they give to the employees. If you seize assets before they leave, the other corporations and the rich stop investing because you have no qualms taking their shit.
      Securing corporation tax is a race to the bottom, free market enterprise, who can provide the best security for the lowest price? You'll find it's the countries with all the corporate HQs.
      Tax evasion is a symptom of high taxation and/or corruption brought about by government investment in private enterprise.
      Fact is, even countries with closed borders suffer brain drains when taxation gets too high. Our government isn't privatising anything, it's handing out localised monopolies. It's the curse of beaurocracy, it can never fully remove itself from a given sector once put in place. As such, they have given the railways the profit focus of capitalism without the competition and resulting efficiency and lower costs.
      So all in all I agree with your statement that it's the system, just for completely different reasons.

    I'd love to have a lot of money and not worry about bills, but I can't understand how he could be the richest man in the world owning a trillion dollar company and not want to pay his employees a good wage.

    • @pingwingugu5
      @pingwingugu5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Simple he would be out of the business, or be a lot smaller if he would pay a "good wage". It's all economy of scale, even a small savings on each sold product sums up to astronomical savings if you are selling millions of units. Amazon is the best example of economy of scale, they cut cost everywhere where they can, the only important thing is too sell a lot and keep good customer service, because a happy customer will come back.
      I like the hypocrisy of our society, we are outraged by bad working conditions in Amazon warehouses in US and Europe, but we don't care about working conditions of people who make products that is sold by Amazon. Our phones (iPhones) are made in factories where people where jumping out of the windows so often that they installed anti-suicide nets to combat the problem. They didn't make the working conditions better, they just installed anti-suicide nets. Our shoes (Nike) are made in factories where people collapse from overheating.
      Globalization is truly amazing.

      Simple answer - Greed. Pure and simple. Greed is the worst of the 7 deadly sins. It kills more than wrath, wrecks more lives than lust, causes more fights than envy or pride and makes more disease than gluttony. Greed is everything that's wrong with the world.

      The company is worth $1 trillion, but that's just what it's been valued at. It's assets, including cash, will be far, far, far less. And, unlike Apple that keep a considerable amount of their money as cash, Amazon don't. Amazon are also known to run on very thin profit margins, or even losses, as they reinvest a lot of their profits.
      As for Bezos himself; like many people of his personal wealth a lot of it is also tied to the valuation of their company.

    • @loonygoons4672
      @loonygoons4672 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Pls, last year Bezos pocketed 107million a day.. He's literally the richest man alive, so no excuse for him to not pay his workers a living wage..
      If 107million a day is not enough than nothing is and the only motive to want more is greed.
      Don't try to rationalize this bs, there's nothing rational about one person earning 107million a day whilst half of his workers struggle to even eat properly each day..

    • @Tespri

      I use amazon all the time and I'm not sure why everyone is suddenly up in arms about it. It has paid shitty wages since inception and has dodged tax within full gaze of legislators and even with the duplicity of entire nation states (I'm looking at you Ireland).
      You can pretty comfortably apply the same logic (minimising tax liability and "cost of employment") to almost all multinational corporations.
      Boycotting them does, and will do fuck all - legislation and the resolve to use it are the only things that will bring change to that equation.

    thats all back to front
    ITS NOT A CASE OF POLITICIANS CANT MAKE THEM PAY TAX
    these corporations dont creep into the tax office window at
    night & change the tax codes, the politicians wright the tax
    codes so they. there cronies & there party donors can rip us off
    themselves thats why they dont close the loopholes down.
    Corporations just piggy back on it
    if they wanted they could simply put a couple of prime directives
    in the tax code(thats directives that overrule all other clauses)
    SAYING FOR EXAMPLE ALL CORPORATIONS DOING ANY KIND OF
    BUSINESS IN THE UK MUST PAY A MINIMUM OF SAY 20% TAX & ANY
    CLAUSES LOOPHOLES SO ON TAKING IT BELOW THAT AUTOMATICALLY
    BECOME VOID
    but thats never going to happen as long as our own MP.s are screwing
    the tax system the corporations will be screwing it right along side them

      It's all about the revolving door policy where the MPs and tax office civil servants end up being on the board of directors for the companies that pay little to no taxes.

    • @virvum_cypher
      @virvum_cypher 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. Everyone screams 'capitalism is evil!' while ignoring that the revolving door between government officials writing the regulations and seats at large corporations is the real problem. It's clear as day! I can't even imagine how anyone could debate it! Corporations are writing tax law and business regulations. That's not a theory. It's been public knowledge for decades. It's also the antithesis of capitalism. You can't have free market capitalism when a small portion of businesses control the government and write the laws, because smaller businesses can't compete! And that's the way large corporations like it, when nobody can compete with them. And the few that struggle close to the top get bought out. This is NOT capitalism.

    • @FakeSchrodingersCat
      @FakeSchrodingersCat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mainly the politicians and their staffers. There are very few tax office civil servants outside of the appointed positions that go between the two. Don't blame the bureaucrats as unlikable as they can be they are innocent in this case.
      Jeffrey Dean
      Maybe it is the antithesis of Utopian capitalism but it is exactly what the more socialist leaning have been fighting against since before Marx learned to write. It is why the regulations that are currently being abolished were put in place in the first place and it seems to be the inevitable result of unregulated capitalism every time.
