  • Demosrtrates effect of adding a support to the X2 style solid column kit.
    Before: +- 0.0125"
    After: +- 0.0005"
    Base images: imgur.com/a/sN...
The base was made from steel angle iron, and then filled with chunks of lead and concrete. Aluminum pads were JB welded to the horizontal sections for the feet to rest on and were scraped level to one another, and then shimmed to eliminate soft-foot by putting an indicator on each foot and shimming them until there was no foot deflection when tightening down.
The base was originally made for the movable column, which is why the support angle is not ideal. Should be more like 45 degrees, although i think the difference is minimal.
The column bracket was fastened to the column with four 3/8 bolts tapped into the cast iron. The column is filled with chunks of lead and self leveling floor compound, which has a low viscosity.
The Y-Axis wiring runs through tubing which was embedded in the base.

    Thanks for the video!
So you made a base and an attachment for the column which you link with some angle irons.
What did you made the base of?
    Looks very sturdy.
Could you show us more how you did it or how it's designed?

I added a photo album to the description.

@@justinsanemsu Thanks for all the great info!
Here in Germany I can only get the sx2l with a tiltable column.
So I also need to stabilize the whole machine.
Supporting the column via the back with angle irons is a sound idea, and should be easy to be made.
