Saturday 7th June, 2003
Hold me up baby for I may fall
Hold my dish-rag body tall
Our bodies melt together (we are one)
Post crucifixion baby, and all undone.
It's a wild world
Church bells ring out the toll of our night
Forward and forever backward
Forever backward forever forward alright
Strophe and antistrophe strophe and antistrophe
Antistophe antistrophe
(C'mon baby, hold me tight)
Up here in your arms tonight.
Don't push me
Don't push me
It's a wild world.
Fucking phenomenal. the Bad Seeds should do Birthday Party songs more often.
He did 6 strings on the first album tour
Ahhh Nick. Such a fucking musical genius. This is such a lovely evolution of one of my favourite songs
He`s still got it. And I think he`ll always have it. I saw him in concert in June (it`s October as I write this), and he still had it: the moves, the YAWP, the timing and staging and showmanship, everything. Nick Cave is the last great rock`n`roll hero; he`ll have it `til the day he dies.
I saw him June 1st in Toronto, Canada, and it was by far the most powerful performance I've ever been to. He called me an old cunt for screaming out "35 Years Nick, Junkyard King!"
Yeah I weasled my way up to the front, Massey Hall is a great Venue to see him, there's no gates so you can get right up to the stage and it's not too big, They played two nights in a row and he recognized some of the crowd from the night before. He was laughing, he continued on "We haven't played that song in 25 years, we've forgotten the chords, we've forgotten a lot of things" Then someone yelled out Weeping Song, they did it, then someone yelled out God Is In The House and they did about half of it, but Nick abandoned it lol. I'll go again any chance I get and request Birthday Party! One of these days he's bound to.....cave, eh?
You're so lucky you got to weasel your way up the the front. Cool! You're lucky you got to hear them play "Weeping Song" and (at least half of) "God is in the House"; I love those songs so much. At the concert I went to see, in June, they played "Weeping Song", all the way through, as part of a three-song encore. It was supernal; just just supernal. When Nick got to the line about "I'm so sorry, father/I never thought I'd hurt you so much..." I teared up, as I knew I would. Just an incredible moment from an incredible show.
this was always one of my favorite Birthday Party songs, this is great
There truly is nothing like a live Nick Cave performance. He is just elecric on stage...
absotley perfect
My sister saw the birthday party at danceteria in 83 or so. She had kinda forgotten about them been busy with life. Well I almost died I got out of the hospital in February and I had kept sleeping from depression but I always had peaky blinders on my TV and red right hand was like in my head forever so I started investigating and now I can't get enough of Nick Cave in the bad seeds or birthday party and it's so cool that my sister saw them so long ago she was something else and still is as long as she stays out of the mosh pits. But she forgot about seeing him back then until I can't hounding her about Nick Cave and Nick Cave and the bad seeds and then she remembered her experience there which is more than I'm telling here but she said she never in her life saw anyone as thin and gorgeous as Blixa and Nick
Somehow Nick comes over the TV as being dominative but he's actually 6 feet 2 in
I saw them in 83 at Leeds poly absolutely brilliant
This still leaves me absolutely breathless every time I watch and listen to this version. Nick Cave is God, the Birthday Party his dark angels
😊
He originated this version when he toured with the Dirty Three. It's quite awesome.
Hats off to the man, on the top of the world 👑
In those his church bells - all Nick is with all his amazing fatal poetry
Wow...this is a treasure
this is the most brilliant thing i have ever seen. they should do tbp songs live more often!
i prefer this version over the original - brilliant
Fantastic song and the band!
I'm in that crowd somewhere....that gig was terrifying... I couldn't breathe, people were spitting on Barry Adamson...love Nick to this day though. This was actually at the Electric Ballroom*** It's just been pointed out that my comment is on the wrong video...I must have been pissed or something...
People are such arses.
Barry Adamson isn't playing in this video...
that was pretty fucking awesome
Yeah!
great clip, i like this song so much. Ive seen Cave 3 times, before he sold out his mind to the "easy money", n i had the luck to see this track live in a solo concert in... mmmh... 2005 (?) with Sclavunos Ellis and Casey. great clip, thanks to the soulbreath
WOW!
❤
Wild world...?!
Would be beautyful and an adventure...
Brother, this is a dog-eat-dog world.
That's the well known truth.
So what?! I like the song.
il mio animale preferito. Love you
The G-rated version of the song.
Good stuff, but I really like the original....hard to top that original
Wild.
holy fuck *good
@darkRoyalty Yeah, but look how good his footwork has become since then!
Is it not fantastic his choice of words even so early in his career.
Its only a brilliant band that have the ability to make anything that ugly into such a mess
Much better then the original version
Is that James Johnston on keyboards?
I think not...
I like it better when he's impersonating Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
On the plus side he seems to have learned to sing. No substitute exists for tracey pew bass on the orig.
I was thinking the exact same thing, right down to the bass line. Good for you sir!
There is no substitute for Tracy Pew's Bass....
if you can't have Tracy Pew then Martyn Casey is the next best thing
Epileptic seizure is holy shit...and i know what it is...
hang on...sold his mind to the easy money. what on earth are you talking about? I don't know If you've met the man, cos I sure as hell haven't, so how can you say that. Every Artist changes over time, as they mature or age, or in cave's case, both.
bellaaa soft.
