I have a 1992 Kenmore (direct drive unit made by Whirlpool) top of the line Series 90 matching washer and dryer. The dryer has never needed any service whatsoever (even the clogged lint filter buzzer still works). The washer has only needed to have the "dogs" replaced. Dogs are these little plastic inserts that sit right underneath the top of the agitator and somehow control the agitation direction. Anyway, mine wore out about 2 years ago and I was able to get the replacements thru ebay for $8.00. I use my w/d about 3 times per week and they still run perfectly. I have a neighbor with brand new front load machines and she says the mine are much better lol. I have already decided that even if I need a major repair, I am going to keep these machines until they rust out from under themselves or I die...whichever occurs first lol.

I just stayed in a hotel in phoenix (nocember 2023)that has the stackable version of this washer.. the washing machine action is exactly the same as thise one... it appears to be original to the building from 1988 and works like a champ... each room villa has one.. I washed 3 pairs of jeans and 3 t shirts and a hoodie and it washed up like a champ... everything in it sounded nice N strong too.. they dont build em like that anymore

About 8 years ago i went looking for these machines and they had stopped making them. My aunt had two sets in 40 years. Ill never believe that they didn't stop making them on purpose. Just like buick when a product works to well, people dont replace them fast enough. The manufacturers stopped making these machines and told people they needed more efficiency. No what they needed was more of your money

    • @wyzemann

The U.S. DOE & EPA TOLD Americans we needed “carbon neutrality,” and He washers. Then, the manufacturers complied with cheaper products to compete with the onslaught of overseas laundry makers like LG & Samsung. Even before excessive bureaucratic meddling, high labor costs and corporate greed ruined HIGH-QUALITY American manufacturing.

I have 2 Kenmore branded direct drives, one full size model with it's matching dryer that I do my regular laundry in (I made of video of that washer), and a small portable one like yours, except it has the daul action agitator since it's a Kenmore. I use the little one for rags and stuff I use for cleaning. I do have a kinda matching dryer to the small one as well. It's just a newer model, but it's pretty much identical to what would've been sold back then aside from the color. Very cool machines. One you use a Whirlpool direct drive, no other washer is quite the same. Only machine I would say is comparable to a DD would be a GE filter flo.

This load of heavily soiled rags would qualify as a Super Wash cycle on my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer 😀. I also have a Kenmore portable belt drive washer version of this washer and it doesn’t have a pre-soak feature but it does have a 4 minute prewash and it’s essentially a manual Super Wash cycle but still does a good job regardless. Whirlpool technically still made this washer in the thin twin laundry centers up until a few years ago.

@@VacTech1 I only use microfiber in my home for all cleaning tasks, have alot of them in different colors and different ages and are therefore dedicated for different task but all washed together. I got a Miele professional washer octoplus pw 6080. I use a program called kitchen linens, it always do a prerinse and if you want a prewash then main and 4 rinses. If lightly soiled I do not add a prewash. Prewash is there so it can wash away the heavy soils so the next wash can tacle the stains and other tuff dirt that needed to be loosened up with prewashing. I think you could try only oxi in prewash then detergent in main, i think it will make them even cleaner and just add an extra rinse.
