Used your high pressure-temperature drop strategy and ignored the full moon. I shot my first buck. A nice 8, and followed it up by shooting my first doe in the evening. Thanks for the free education! Couldn’t be happier

I just got a bow so I’m bummed I have to wait until next year unless I pick up a muzzleloader before the end of the season. I just don’t feel comfortable with taking a shot at an animal with only a few months of practice. I can’t wait to apply the wealth of knowledge I’ve learned from this guy.

Hey bud. It’s awesome u do these videos. I’m a single father so I can’t afford to have u come and help me out. So I have watched a lot of your videos and just in one year time your advice has helped me bring deer closer to me. You know what u are talking about and u explain things well. This year my target buck is a 12 point. Biggest buck I have had yet in my woods. And my 12 yr old son gives thanks to you also. I took him out opening day of rifle here in West Virginia and he got a nice 8 point. Before our property only had bucks in it at night and only in day once in a while or during rut. I just wanted to write this to say thank u for what u do. I really appreciate it.

Hey Jeff, this may be the most informative video you have done to date! I know from my experience the importance of ingress and egress at stands or blinds. If you are seen, smelled or heard golng to or leaveing them you have educated those deer to avoid that area at least during daylight hours or altogether.I also think staying too late will run off Deer that you may not see because of darkness......

Jeff, I really appreciate and enjoy your content. I've been hunting 14 years now and I feel my knowledge has really taken off the past five years just from my own experiences. But watching your videos keeps me wanting to learn more and really fine tune my abilities. You always have new or an elaborated video from something prior that you posted that really explains things in detail.
The area we hunt is very tough in Western New York. The deer can get fairly big, but it seems that our neighboring properties have a lot more attraction and their bucks really seem to blow ours away. Small improvements the last couple years based on some of the things you've recommended have really done wonders. Unfortunately for a couple full-time employed guys it takes a lot of time and money to make quality hunting grounds. It's a slow process here but you've taught me a lot and I always look forward to your videos. Hope you had a great season, have a Merry Christmas, and here's to next season. Cheers.

I had 6.5 acres clear cut 5 years ago. Also cleared out a food plot and tree plot. I've planted 7 Chinese chestnuts (only ones in the neighborhood) 4 apple trees, 3 persimmon, and 2 pear trees. It'll be a couple of years until they yield good but it'll be worth the wait, in my mind. I installed a water hole and a mineral stump sight as well. And I'm transplanting 10 cedar trees for screening in switch grass. After having 20 cedars die last year.
Well after 5 years, I'm finally getting deer movement and bedding on my land. Most would have given up, but I'm too stubborn. I'm going to create a smorgasbord that they can't resist.

Excellent video! I have some questions regarding hinge cutting. I understand what hinge cutting accomplishes, I understand good locations for hinge cutting. What I haven’t found a good video on is “hinge cut structure” or “what a good hinge cut area looks like.” How do you lay trees for bedding? Do you stack multiple trees on top of each other? Are trees cut in a circle? Do you lay trees in different directions or the same direction? Seeing or having you explain what a good hinge cut area should look like, especially for bedding would be a huge help for me (and I’m sure many others)! Thanks Jeff!

Love the books Jeff. Need some pointers on a big buck in the Deep South, I Missed a four year old last Saturday with a rifle about 11am just outside his bedroom. he was locked down with a doe, didn’t even seem like he realized I was there. It’s an old farm that gets hunted quite a bit but has a strong doe herd. I’ve Never seen him there before. There are four younger bucks that iv seen on the place, I have camera logs they’ve been there since August, all that said do you believe he will hold to his bedroom or hit the road? iv not set foot there all year except to confirm that I didn’t hit him. It just Didn’t seem big enough to hold deer it’s a 150 yard block of walnut and cedars he was in, Very thick and Surrounded by open fields that are just about tall enough to hide a smaller deer He has spent some time there already by the sign. Thanks for what you do Jeff, Your a hero of mine. I understand if you don’t have time to answer rambling questions in the comments you still have my respect.

I also have only 5 acres I thought it was crazy to try and improve such a small area but I followed what he said. In my research of my own land wherever the most diversity comes together is where all my deer sign is at. Just so happens where that point is gets a lot of sunlight so I put clover in and a mock scrape. If you do the Scrape early enough you will be amazed on the deer movement. However, I made a vow once I did the improvements that I would stay out of my woods. I don't even cut firewood on my own land and heat with wood lol I only hunt with the right wind and see deer almost everytime I'm out. For example our gun season just closed up and I saw more deer on my 5 acres then I saw on my parents 120 acre farm. Pressure is critical. If they feel safe and have the essentials for survival they will be there. Good luck!

@@PathfinderExcavating exactly, I hunt a 4 acre transition line, I hunted it once this year and there were deer all over, I'm gonna put a waterhole in this summer since the only water is a 400 yards away across a cattle pasture. Tiny acreage's can be killer if carefully hunted/managed, iv killed a handful of bucks on that land and have seen more there than on the 100 acre and 70 parcels that I share with 3 other hunters

Jeff we have 85 acs in southeast KY big hardwood setting, lowest zone of deer densities in the state. I’ve lived here all my life, and I don’t know of any Ag fields within 3 miles or so in any direction, as a crow flies now days. (Since the ones that were on neighbors land were converted over to wetlands and CRP projects 2-3 years ago. Around 40acs) which has really changed our hunting. The Deer bed there now. LoL Of those 85 acs about 50% is mature hardwood and pine stands. The other 50% is tillable ground. Has been in alfalfa mixed hay production for 20+ years. But not manicured basically at all. Would you recommend summer food plots in an area like this? Than broadcasting into it with fall mixes in the fall? Btw been watching your videos for years now and love the content, I even have all your current books and reading all the time between videos. Keep up the good work.
We have mock scrapes (two) and water holes (two) both within bow range of mineral sites and stand locations. Back off of the possible food plot areas by prob 100-150 yards into the timber. This pre rut walking into my stand for a bow hunt I found 8 new scrapes in a scrape line, heading toward that one mock scrape within 100yds saw 5 deer that first sit most I’ve seen out of a stand in years here. I only hunt cold fronts now also due to you and I don’t hunt same stand over and over, and only on the right winds for each. Thank you for that encouraging sit.

I’m hunting from a ground blind on the edge of 2 1/2 acres of Timothy..I think that it would be inappropriate to ask him to follow your expertise approach.. You are the way I should go , but shooting four 🦌, the largest being an 8 point , 230 lb since 2017 , I feel this is the way to go. I will try your mock scrape and 💦 water hole approach..I like these . Do you have to monitor the water in the summer for mosquitoes? Jeff thank you so much for your information. I have applied your methods to our hunting land in southern Virginia over the last year, everything from hinge cuts to food plots. Myself and my dad had our best hunting season so far this year. I was able to take a 21" wide and very very tall 8 point this fall, and my dad got a 13 pointer and a 9 pointer. I also was able to get a bear with my bow earlier this fall as a bonus. We put in lots of hours of work and hunting and it definitely paid off! We were able to turn our land completely around in just one year, and almost tripled our deer population. If you have a minute, please check out our pictures of our bucks on our Craft Outdoors facebook page. Thank you again!

I have 5 acres here in NE Ohio. We have a lot of hunting pressure. My property is long and skinny but I have a lot of diversity for being 5 acres. I started using some of Jeff's tips for improving the habit. I put a small clover plot in and towards the back of the wooded parcel I hinge cut some trees. I started a mock scrape off the kill plot in August and since I have had photos of 9 different bucks. Of those 9 bucks 3 are home range bucks and there is 1 shooter 8 point. The problem I'm having is very few does. It's almost all bucks all the time. Anyone know why? I'm not complaining but if I could share the photos with you some of these bucks have bad genetics it's almost like there are too many bucks not enough does.

Question for you have you ever have your muzzleloader not fire? I had nice buck come out my muzzleloader would go off I had to switch out the 7 primer to get go off. I had never had this happen before. I very frustrated after this.

I’ve had it happen before. Definitely frustrating! I think most folks that have muzzleloader hunted have experienced that “snap”

Trey Robinson thanks I am glad I wasn’t the only one that happened to. The buck I trying to shoot was like 140 to 150 class. Well that means next year he will bigger next year. I have one buck on my wall that is 179 evenly. Maybe next year get him.

What type of switchgrass do you plant and where did you buy the seeds? Having a tough time finding a place to buy seed.

Hi Kenny! I get mine from John Komp at Northwoods Whitetails... www.northwoodswhitetails.com
Also keep in mind, you get what you pay for. The cheaper blends typically have foxtail or other weeds in the mix, and poor germination rates. I have learned that mistake the hard way 😬

I can't plant food plots since we lease the land for hay. Can I make strips of food plots on the edge of the hay fields, and still get results?

Hi Joe, maybe a couple of dozen throughout the year...I think 3 last year. I have 1 schedule within a western IL trip in March...but that will likely be the only time I am in IN for clients in 2020...already scheduled out by location in other states this year.

I bought a home in a rural area with 5 acres surrounded by farms. The land was so overgrown by honeysuckle and buckthorn, thorn something, you couldn't walk through it. It literally was a dump, literally a farmer dump, with cars and everything! I cleared out the invasives, though neverending, planted hundreds of trees. 3 years ago I shot the largest 8 pointer in my 26 years of hunting! It can be done.

You can do a lot of great hunting on 8-10 acres You won’t get many bucks living on it but you only need one! Cut trail, small food plots. Natural browse You need to work on it and keep it up. Make it attractive and the deer will come through
