"I don't play no rock n roll", claimed fred, all the while pounding out driving, rattling, awesome country blues like this that made most rockers sound like pale ninnies.
Fred's playing here is truly otherworldly. It is simultaneously of the future and past, of the dirty segregated south, and of a future not yet written that seems as if it could go on forever...truly a masterpiece. His soul comes through the song. there is beauty, and there is pain. That's what I love about his playing. Truly nothing like it...and there is no equal.
@@liamrdavidson Yeah it doesn't really get better than McDowell. Especially if you like your Blues with a bit more punch. God damn could he get energy out of that guitar.
That bottleneck! I don't think I've seen that before, and it does shed a bit of light on his approach. The man was one of the sublime masters, without doubt.
You can do it in open D but it ends up sounding a bit in the lower register. Might recommend using a capo if you wanna get it closer to this sound. Had a blast trying to play it tho 😊

I would sell my soul to the devil to be able to play like this. Sorry God.
I am absolutely not being hyperbolic when I say this: the way he plays makes me weep.

He sounds like 3 people playing at the same time
The man had the magic
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Otherworldly playing, music coming straight from the soul. Great minds think alike.
This guy is AMAZING. Just heard about em from my blues obsessed friend, can't get enough.
One of the finest without a doubt
Awesome, I had no idea anything like this existed. He's the first blues guy I got into and so far my favorite.
linglingjr boy do you have a lot to learn and enjoy. Enjoy the journey!

Is this tuned in Open D?
I figured it was standard tuning but I'm dying to know.

Nice.
my feets are tappin'.
what type of guitar is. this?
An italian built Crucianelli from -65 or later.
It's a thin hollow body electric guitar.
Pretty much a copy of a Gibson ES-330/Epiphone Casino
is it spliced at 2:13?
No, don't think so, just pans down to his foot ...
This came from a documentary so it is spliced. Also, I changed the filter on it which I wouldn't do now, yeah, you're not wrong at all.
Somebody get him some water
