I am your ardent fan Charu ji. Your ISAI PAYANAM educated many of your fans. Your demos of ragas of film songs with their equivalent Carnatic Music Krithis have ensured your expansion of your fan base. You did your PhD in Australia. Now that you are going to California, you will have more opportunity to spread music there too. Wish you join the world famous Berklee College of music as a faculty, though both the places are far away from each other.
    This interview, I thoroughly enjoyed.
God bless you and your family.

Isai payasam is a great program. Kudos to Charulatha Ji on her performance based research and raga analysis. I 100% agree with Charulatha Ji that Ilayaraja is synonymous with Banthuvarali. I have felt the same way as she that Raja Ji has created some magical Bantuvarali based melodies and BGMs bringing its full rasa.

@@isaipayanam Dear Charulatha Ji, please do Isai Payanam programs in Boston area too. There are a lot of rasikas of classical Indian music and its application in film music. Please look up LearnQuest and their annual program in spring which you can participate. It will be wonderful to have you.

Nice interview. I have attended a few isai payanam programs of Smt Mani and enjoyed very much. But the concept of explaining the cinema music based on carnatic ragas has been conducted by Sri G S Mani long before Smt Charulata

Her brief reference to old hindi film songs and their respective ragas was welcoming.Perhaps I would look forward to her full fleged " Isai payanam" with reference to old hindi film songs wich can be even titled as " Raagon mein safar" Or " Raagon ki geetmala".

Last night's Isai Payanam at Humour Club featured "Deep Jale Kahin", ‘Jaane Kahaan Gaye Woh Din’, 'Dost Dost na Raha', 'Tere mere beech mein', 'Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon', 'Rang aur noor' in Sivaranjani, 'Poocho na kaise' and 'Albela sajan aayo re' in Ahir-bhairav, 'Bhairan ho' in Dwijavanti and some other songs that have slipped my mind.

The interview highglights an important issue - the hypocrisy of the Carnatic establishment and self-appointed custodians towards film music and their utter failure in sustaining an audience for the art form. It is an open secret that the majority of the kutcheris in the grand "Music Season" are taking place in near-empty halls, and many of the singers do not even have basic vocal facility. Carnatic music has been kept alive in good measure due to the support of film music. Most Carnatic singers with good voices have sung in films. The music reality shows which are motivating youngsters to learn classical music are film-driven.

The artist here is blowing her own trumpet too much without even slightest humility one would expect anyone to have . Madam , WE grant your acccomplishmnents but dont blow it out of proportion for God `sake. Moreover your singing of film songs is terribly and identifyably carrying a carnatic style and odour which should be totaly avoided .if one wants to even sing as demonstration .A film song is a different cup of coffee , even when it is based on carnatic ragam. Leran this difference from KJ Yesudas , P Suseela and many other play back singers. The points made by ypu here are nothing unique --many others have talked about it a lot more eloquently .

Oh. Let me know about which music gets blockbuster among audience. Carnatic music or film music? Only the so called high class brahmin arrogant goons hold the banner for carnatic music. Check the views of mahaganapathim and chennai senthamizh. Carnatic music concerts are utterly irritating for most people only people like you listen and glorify it
