I grew up with a lot of these. Depending on the Carb, tuning, cam and pipes makes a big difference. Shovelheads are great. Panheads are great. You left out the good old 1000 ironhead sportster though. Probably the best sounding engine ever from idle to full throttle. Cool video though.
I never realized just how much people reflect on and appriciate engine sounds. Such an easily overlooked quality of a machine. It is the soul of the vehicle.
I currently own a pan, genny shovel, s&s evo, and a m8, the shovel or evo are by far the best motors I've ever owned. M8 is the worst to date. I'm eventually going to cave and buy a sporty evo 1200 and make it my daily. 😑
If your a harley rider u wouldn't make that comment evo moters were nothing but a pain in.the.ass..as soon as a.m.f was gone they started improving agiin and yes I own 1
Cast heads and cylinders are bulletproof only the japs have it perfe Ted no one else my harley.is.grate It's old stuborn and runs well maintainance is a 100 percent .must with me
The intro of the engine sound before they showed and sound of the 1903 single cylinder was I believe a V-Twin board track racer that was running on alcohol.
Evolution motor sounds the best and is the most reliable engine HD has ever made. The evolution sporster motor is probably more reliable than the big twin evo motor of those two.
I had a 42 "45" Flat Head back in 56 that I thought sounded good. But you can not beat the sound of a shovel. I had an 84 Iron Head Sportster that sounded good also. And my 99 carbed EVO sounds really good. I have a switch to cut out the VOES switch at idle which makes it real close to a shovel. That cuts the timing back at idle which also drops the rpm about 400.
That’s an awesome way to remember the sounds, thanks, galloping horses! So cool! Not quite sure what it is but the sound of just about any Harley just makes my heart so happy. Probably the galloping horses sound.
I like cruisers but can't figure out what's up with the UNBEARABLY LOW idle speeds.... It makes it sound so weak. It really gives me the the impression of an engine that barely runs
Yeah, that's been bothering me ever since I've started paying attention to motorcycles. Granted, I'm no engineer, but those low idles just don't sound right.
Shovel and Evo! My first Harley when I was in highschool was an 83 fxr with a S and S Emodel and an Andrews cam boy did it sound sweet!!! Now I'm an old man and ride a M8 that sounds like a BMW!!! LOL
They all sound just great. Thank you for posting. I may be alone, but that EVO had the most distinctive, potato-potato-potato sound. Came to the same conclusion on another video similar to this one. But they're all legendary in one way or another.
I'm going with the Panhead...had one as a kid....my Dad converted our Garage into a bedroom and i would slide open the door at night and park it next to my bed...probably wasn't a great idea now that I think of it.
0:06 = Single Cylinder (1903 F-Head)

Livewire almost sounds like an aeroplane 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I like the livewire. Sounds like theres no engine, just supercharger
Shovelhead and evolution literally sounds like a galloping horse

All I herd was the sholvelhead saying Potato potato potato
1:19 Panhead, wow that's beautiful to my ears. Definitely my favorite.
Pan head, and evo my favorite.
Same
Shovelhead for the win!
evo close second .
Never knew the Milwaukee 8 sound so bad! I have a 95 Evo myself , the last good one!
Aint nun like an old shovelhead. My dads got an 84' softtail. Music to my ears
I swear my shovel makes the most beautiful sound I've ever heard
Here for the education, Sportbike guy, but that shovlehead definitely caught me attention.
Shovelhead the legend!! Haha!!
Closed my eyes and had tears when I heard my old SHOVEL thumping.
My ears hurt listening to this wreck !!!
@@arthurmchugh5184 shut the fuck up
Sounds like my old Hercules hit and miss. Probably comparable in power and weight.
@@randymarsh-Tegridy420 now that is fuckin funny 😁😁😁😁
The sound for the Evolution is Beautiful !

kid : i want a horse
mom : we have a horse at home
horse at home : 1:55
Ok, now that's pretty funny.
Why get a horse , when you have a freaking harley
I never realized just how much people reflect on and appriciate engine sounds. Such an easily overlooked quality of a machine. It is the soul of the vehicle.
Gotta love the shovel stumble, awesome
They all sound amazing.
P.S. Shovelheads sound awesome at 5,000 rpm cruisin down the road in high gear.
That’s like 1500 rpm over the redline though.
@mad ass 5,000 freedom rotations a minute
Don't know about you guys but on my 95 Evo my rev limiter is set at 5300 and that's conservative could go to 55!
neil pence
Freedom rotations? Is that when the piston comes breaking free?
Evo was the greatest motor harley ever made ......paired with a 5 speed trans it was unbeatable
You think so? I own one and ride it like a damn dune buggy and it takes it
I currently own a pan, genny shovel, s&s evo, and a m8, the shovel or evo are by far the best motors I've ever owned. M8 is the worst to date. I'm eventually going to cave and buy a sporty evo 1200 and make it my daily. 😑

Twin cam has the meanest sound! Beast!
Shovel and Evo sound awesome to me. Thanks for your video. God bless you.

@@andisuryowinarto5277 wellllll it does !!!! Piss off !!😀😀😀
Wow! Just wow! When you see an air cooled 4 stroke pushrod v twin with that sound.
Harley Davidson.
The M8 sound like a machine with pure power.
Harley-Davidson Music
🖤🎼🏍💨🔥
Shovelhead being the best sounding!
😍Knucklehead 😍 shovelhead😍
Merci !
I have a Shovelhead wideglide, S&S carb with drag pipes... pure music to my ears
That was cool! I've had shovels, EVOs, and twin cam, loved them ALL!!!
PANHEAD!!!!!!! The best stump pullin' Davidson of the bunch. But they all rock.!!!!
The intro of the engine sound before they showed and sound of the 1903 single cylinder was I believe a V-Twin board track racer that was running on alcohol.
Remember- you can only hear the "Harley Waltz" best on a Shovelhead.
Evolution motor sounds the best and is the most reliable engine HD has ever made. The evolution sporster motor is probably more reliable than the big twin evo motor of those two.
Super danke für das Video hat großen Spaß gemacht.
Shovel head is the best sounding one of all time but I do have a twin cam and it’s a close second
I like this Harley davidson bike & engine sound
I like this Harley davudson bike & engine sound
How in the hell did you leave out the Ironhead Sportster? The original Harley superbike.
I love harley davidson
Panheads are my favorite. I saw a awesome 1955 Harley Panhead Bobber!
That’s an awesome way to remember the sounds, thanks, galloping horses! So cool! Not quite sure what it is but the sound of just about any Harley just makes my heart so happy. Probably the galloping horses sound.
Shovel: gotta dunt dunt, gotta dunt dunt, gotta dunt dunt, gotta dunt dunt...
Love the sound of all of them.
Love the way a knucklehead sounds 😎
They're all just a pleasure symphony!
music to my ears!
This was awesome...thank you! They all sound great!🤓whole thing just made me smile!
Good video bro, good reminder of those beautiful engines, nice intro
Wow what great sounds. But the Evolution motor sounds absolutely Amazing. Everything after that Evo sounds like any other V twin.
Knucklehead has such a nice rhythm! What a bop
Sweet music for the soul.
This helped me with my anxiety attack thank you so much
They all sound like they’re going to stall out
Lol. Idles set WAAAYY too low, but that's the thing with HD! I personally like my idle a tad higher!
I like cruisers but can't figure out what's up with the UNBEARABLY LOW idle speeds.... It makes it sound so weak. It really gives me the the impression of an engine that barely runs
@Alex Eidenier ahaaa so there is a mechanical reason for the low idle speed. Thanks for the explanation!
Yeah, that's been bothering me ever since I've started paying attention to motorcycles. Granted, I'm no engineer, but those low idles just don't sound right.
@@james44mag31 I will just get a Guzzi nuovo Falcone that is a slow idling engine
Plus d'un siècle d histoire d'un moteur de moto de légende, pour ma part c'est le twin Cam. Merci beaucoup 👍👍👍👍✌
Shovelhead!
Can't wait to get mine running in the chopper I am building.
I have a Low Rider S. Going with 2500rpm on the street it is like meditation. No other bike than Harley can make this sound.
Awesome compilation, thanks! From all audio-moto-philes in the world! :)
Personally I'd vote for Panhead. Pure badassery.
Shovel and Evo! My first Harley when I was in highschool was an 83 fxr with a S and S Emodel and an Andrews cam boy did it sound sweet!!! Now I'm an old man and ride a M8 that sounds like a BMW!!! LOL
Nice sound of Harley engine 1966-1984
I love the shovel head sound especially when you have a really good Andrews cam... and strait drag pipes...badass...
Even the singles one sounds great
Herrlich 👏🏻 Danke für den Geschichtsunterricht 😃
Best Antistress Therapy ever! ❤
Panhead ever ! ❤️ You dont need more of that
Type if exhaust makes a huge difference as well. Would’ve been cool to see the whole bike and setup.
Omg please do more of such engine evolution videos
I love to hear it in the morning
Panhead seems to be what I hear when I watch Sons of Anarchy and Mayans MC. 😎
No one but shovel are the legend
berry benedick My '48 Springer Panhead now that's a legend. Nothin wrong with a good shovel though
Panhead 1948-1965 Super thumping 👌💪
V Rod: Am I a joke to you?
That's so cool that even back in the day, it still sounded like a Harley
I love all harley sounds with carbs on it!
I'm with you on this one
@@xmo552 Why?
My favorite sounding engine was the 61 cubic inch overhead valve for 1936 known as the knucklehead I had one of these bikes but it was made in 1937.
Whose here ? Shovel head & evolution two of my most beloved I believe
King Kong was here listing to this mechanical masterpiece!
Milwaukee 8 is just awesome, even being a modern engine HD still can make awesome sounding motors.
Absolutly! I drive a milwaukee eight and its rly beautiful! :)
All sounded like an old hit-and-miss engine churning ice cream at a farm days fair.
The 1909 v twin already had that famous sound!
I love Knucklehead 💓
Awesome sound for the alarm clock.
Amazing video! Thanks!
Ironhead Sportster should be here, I can hear one from a mile away because it has its own sound....great video!
Nothing compares to the sound of a Harley. Sewing machines are nice and all, but this is what a motorcycle should sound like.
Perfekt Sound 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
missed the best motor of all man, the shovel pan from 1966 till 69
The sound so great , amazing 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
as far as bikes go, nothing sounds as sweet as a tuned Shovelhead.
Super video amigo que nostalgia👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😢😢😢😢
Gotta love that Shovelhead music
Knuckles, Pans, Shovels and Evo's. Thats Harley Davidson in its prime.

Shovelhead. '66 - forever......

Milwaukee 8 sounds so good. Love mine, and intake , 2-1 and tune really make it a beautiful sound and feel
