The Skelton Crew is an updated version of the Goonies film (1985) thus far within the Star Wars realm. Personally, I love this angle bringing back the wonder from the 1980's stories/movies that brought such enjoyment to so many people young and older generations.
I'm glad they were able to make a kids Star Wars show that adults can enjoy just as well. I think that was one of the main problems with Rebels and especially Young Jedi Adventures.
Rebels season 1 definitely had a problem but once they got past the Grand Inquisitor and Vader it stayed at a pretty decent middle ground of silly but serious moments.

The idea that some Jedi youngling or Padawan turned to pirating for survival after order 66 is actually pretty interesting to me. Maybe he was taken under the wing while still a kid by some pirate captain. Perhaps saved from some stormtroopers or something and just fell into it and figured it was a perfect cover to hide his origins and avoid the Empire since pirates were already practiced at avoiding government. Plus who's gonna suspect a Jedi would hide amongst pirates? Eventually he just fully conforms to it, yet still retains some of the basic skills and ends up Captain til the mutiny happens. He stays in the prison because he's got little hope of getting anywhere, until he learns of these easily exploited kids with their own starship and a way off the rock.

Yes, I like Skeleton Crew. I have always said, Star Wars is a (was a) fun adventure story that kids relate to. Today, those kids are us. But also the story wonderfully includes those who were creating playful adventures with mystery and pirates before Star Wars existed. I relating to the kids bikes, riding rough and crashing bad down a hill landing hard with mysterious surroundings of debris and a forbidden past no one talks about. Been there done that. Lets hope it stays the course. This is what we need.
You hit it spot on with describing it as The Goonies but in Star Wars. Also had a bit of treasure planet vibes. Now I may change my mind later but for now it’s very cool because although it’s a new show it really hits that light hearted action adventure I loved as a kid. so the nostalgia feel is hitting hard.
7:27 - Regarding the maturity of children, yes, I agree. I don't have children, but I am a judo coach, and teach judo to children, teenagers and adults. What I find most of the time, is that female students (children and teenagers) tend to more mature and usually better behaved than the boys. It doesn't mean the boys are always misbehaving and/or have no discipline, but from my observation and experience, young boys are more likely to be a bit more immature and silly than young girls. To put it into perspective... boys are more likely to agree with one another that "Hey, running head first into this wall sounds like a GREAT idea" than girls, ha ha.
This kind of reminds me of Flight of the navigator in a way. But with more people on the ship. I know the story will change. but it kinda did remind me of FOTN

i think its kinda good that they getting away from the main focus, it is give them the room to thrive maybe lets those people put their focus and message to put somewhere else rather than canon stuff
It's fresh and new for Star Wars in a good way. as someone who grew up in the Speilberg ET/Goonies era this kind of storytelling holds a special nostalgic place in my heart. I don't think they did as good a job as Stranger Things season 1 for hitting the nostalgia vibes, but it's a solid B+ and it's early doors. They have done enough to make me want to watch the rest of this season and give it a chance. As opposed to the Acolyte which made me want to stop watching after episode 1(the only Star Wars show I've not been able to watch all the way through). I rewatched Rogue one this week and it really put all of the Disney plus shows into perspective. When Rogue one came out I thought it was good, but watching it now it's clear how much better it is at holding my attention and getting me excited about Star Wars than anything else Disney have created since taking over. I’m glad you made this. I was going to pass on the show but I’ll give it a chance now
I am hoping for bad elephant puns with the Ortolan kid.
He’s actually a different species from Max Rebo
@oXRaptorzXo Perhaps he kooks a bit different, but Blue alien eleohantsxare Ortolans
It makes no sense for him not to be.
I liked the subtle a new hope nods in terms of imagery,
It's immersive, caracthers are fun and lovely. It's the coolest thing since Andor.
Is Jude the Captain ?
Glad he likes it. I canceled my D+ until they can produce some quality shows instead of "Straight to VHS" content. Nothing against Skeleton Crew. I'm 40 so it's just not really up my alley. Hopefully no fumbles.
What age has to do with it embrace your inner child. Everything doesn't have to be serious all day long that's draining
really enjoying it so far!
I gotta say, I also went into this without expecting much and I liked it. Didn’t watch any trailers or nothing. Also on the basis of how the show feels like other shows/movies I gotta say I kinda get Treasure Planet vibes. Looking forward to the next episode
I went in just waiting for the downturn like "I wonder when this is going to get bad and I wonder HOW this one will be bad" but was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if it's for me but it feels like Star Wars Goonies in the best way. Not really my thing but so far so good and definitely a goofy Spy Kids/Goonies/Hook vibe
Honestly, this show felt like it represented US as if it were us being immersed into the Star Wars universe. It’s so cool!
Happy to see John Knoll and Doug Chiang in the credits, but as with a lot of Disney SW, I missed astromechs, protocol droids etc. I still think Wim might end up having his mind wiped and become Trooper FN-2187.
Honestly, this is what I needed right now and I think Disney Star Wars desperately needs. Just a fun, enjoyable story that doesn't need any major lore impact or legacy characters. A show that is able to stand on its own two feet without the George Lucas brand. No matter how it ends I will hopefully be satisfied, and at least not mortified by any convoluted characters or cannon breaking moments in a low stakes kids show🤞
Love the positivity
I like the idea of the kid rebelling in school but actually making something of himself, the call to adventure and risk
