The thing about operation paperclip, it wasn't just rocket scientists that were brought to the USA, other scientists were brought here including Erich Traub, a medical scientists who work on foot to mouth disease and bioweapons while here in the USA. One sci-fi story has a resolution that deals with rats being ever present on spaceships and space stations. Without proper maintenance, they’ll eventually chew through any wiring and, well... I would imagine cockroaches are also there

In the US, Congress allocated money to education under a defense department bill with the reasoning that the US needed more technical education to research and design high technology projects.
The Germans got a lot of their knowledge from Robert Goddard and his designs. It was ridiculously inexpensive to order copies of patent blueprints back then. They capitalized tf out of our (I'm American) refusal to acknowledge how useful what this guy was doing would be.
The whole we haven't even explored our ocean thing, is actually very misleading. That statistic of like 95% or whatever being unexplored is actually just talking about places where humans themselves have not been, but we have sent cameras to those places and we know it's mostly just empty space
