Yooo, YOU NEVER PLAYED NINJA GAIDEN BEFORE!!! Wow! Color me surprised, since Ryu crossed over into DOA from this series. 2004 was a great year for games on XBox. Thats when 3D Ninja Gaiden was released, along with DOA 2 Ultimate, MK Deception and Def Jam FFNY. The version youre playing is Sigma, which dropped in 2007, but I never played it until they released the Ninja Gaiden collection a few years back.
That Murai bossfight in Ninja Gaiden is a make or break moment forcing you to fight cleaner and chip at openings - beat him, and you can probably make a decent effort scrambling through the rest of the game's combat. Hated it 12 years ago when I first attempted via Sigma + on Vita, but learned to appreciate it much more nowadays. I also played the original 2004 release of 3D Ninja Gaiden for the first time last week and noticed something interesting. After beating Murai, the game quickly gives you an actual tutorial for doing essence charge UTs. I didn't realise this was even a feature until last week. In the past I only discovered after reading around the game on forums or youtube as they completely removed this tutorial for Black and Sigma versions. A bit of a strange design choice considering essence charging is such a signature feature from the first two 3d ninja gaiden games (and also dragon sword for DS).
If story and law doesn't make too much sense you might want try the NES games first if you have the console lying around somewhere 😅 Or you could emulate too that's an option, But you can atleast play the first one on switch if you have online anyways. obviously just as hard even more solid then modern series though!! Also CAN'T BELIEVE you haven't played any of the series even though Ryu is in the DOA games I think. 😅 Well at least you started somewhere.
