I've had bad luck upgrading my Hakko FX-888D... I bought an FM-202 used on eBay, and a new handpiece on Amazon, only to discover that the tip wasn't reaching the proper temperature (by means of the solder taking way too long to melt). So I bought a new FX-951 directly from Hakko USA, only to discover that handpiece still didn't reach proper temperature. So now I've exceeded my tooling budget for the year and suspect I have a counterfeit FM-2027 handpiece with no way to prove it and discovered out of Amazon's return window.
Anyone who knows Metcal knows this isn’t “half-hearted.” They’re the Rolls Royce-nay… the Bugatti Veyron of soldering station performance! No other manufacturer has their tech that exploits the Curie Effect to perfectly maintain temperature with near-instant heat and “recovery” …in quotes since it’s only theoretical that I could even find a thermal load large enough to saturate the perfect thermal response of Metcal’s exclusive tech (certainly not with a legit electronics workpiece!). My station since 2016 is an Aoyue Int 701A++ which takes clone T18-style tips. That’s the obsolete kind Hakko only still uses in the beginner FX-888D… not the modern T12 cartridge types from the FX-951. I’ve been shopping for a good JBC 245 clone myself but had to give up on the idea for now due to circumstances. …and this is where it’s going to sound like I’m making stuff up but every word of this is true: These “circumstances” include my mother’s impending homelessness and my inability to help since I’m already displaced by a tornado. I actually intended to move in with her until I get back on my feet but that’s when I heard about the landlord deciding to sell her home of 43 years! She has to abandon her trailer because it can’t be moved. I’m literally sleeping in my rented workshop a block away and have no bed to offer. No, a soldering station isn’t going to help with that but it’ll certainly be useful for my hobby/side hustle that I hope to turn into a business (upgrading and repairing old electronics).
Please make a video of what you do with LEDs for 03-06 gm clusters now that the good LEDs aren't available. I have tried multiple styles of bulb and can't seem to get good coverage and have hot spots.
I just recently got interested in soldering. I went to ol Harbor Freight and got the set from them. Seems ok I guess. Kinda jumpy on the temp. I have looked at those and they must be top of the line.
Well i have good soldering equipment i do not need this also even If i wanteit i will probabily not gona take IT from this give away bacause i leave in Europe and the transport costs more than the actual station . But hey i hope the one who will get the unit will schimbe great things with IT .
