I got the CA7 then stripped the lower down to nothing, upgraded all the parts, mag locked it, then put a semi-auto upper on it. I spent way too much upgrading it though 😬😬

Really like what Franklin is doing with trying to push the boundaries when it comes to gun laws, both on the CA state level with the CA series of guns and on the federal level with stuff like their binary triggers, the Reformation (even if the ATF wants to say its an SBS according to the GCA), and the Providence. Thinking outside the box and trying to innovate around all the ridiculous laws we have is always a good thing in my eyes. Good video as always, Reno!

I'm in New York, upstate not the city, and it is difficult if not impossible to get an AR pistol. The SAFE act prohibits pistols that load outside of the grip as well as pistols designed to be gripped anywhere other than the pistol grip itself. I'm glad to see a company working around the California gun laws for the people.
I bought my CA7 the day I saw one in a shop and already had a Geissele URGI 10.3” MK18 upper waiting at home for it. Troy BUIS co-witness MRO two stage Geissele trigger SBM4 brace The upper came with a surefire four prong flash hider; and bam it’s my new favorite 5.56 “pistol”.

If your in LA Guns Direct in Burbank sold me my CA7 at $850. Wait until the 4th of July and buy a upper shipped right to your house from a online distributor when they’re having their Independence Day sales online and you can get a MK18 or something nice like that for basically half price.
What semi upper is the best to get on the ca7? And how do you mag lock it? What kit would you use?

Reno, what do you think about the DOJ saying you cannot modify the pistol as in switching the upper or adding a gas system on it? It goes back to 2001. Aftermarket changes or modifications made to certain single shot pistols (i.e. changing upper receivers, connecting gas tubes) may be considered manufacturing these pistols into assault weapons. See California Penal Code section 30515, subdivision (a)(1), for a list of assault weapon characteristics. The purchaser could be in violation of Penal Code section 30600, prohibiting the manufacture of assault weapons, and Penal Code section 30605(a), prohibiting the possession of unregistered assault weapons.
Alterations of a single shot pistol (i.e. changing upper receivers, connecting gas tubes) may also be considered manufacturing an unsafe handgun. See California Penal Code sections 31900-31910 for the definition of unsafe handguns and 32000(a) for more information on illegal acts involving unsafe handguns.

It's fine but just be aware that if it's fixed mag it needs to stay so, and likewise if it's the manually operated one.

My one concern is something I saw when looking for an HK on the CA DOJ roster. It mentioned penal code sections 31900-31910 and "Alterations of a single shot pistol (i.e. changing upper receivers, connecting gas tubes) may also be considered manufacturing an unsafe handgun." I'm not a lawyer (nor am I dressed as awesomely as Reno) but that gives me pause on covering to a semi-auto. Can someone smarter than me explain it to me?
