  • A brief video just showing a few features and a little milling on the brand new Warco VMC milling machine.
It took months of waiting as the machine was on back-order but after a few days struggling to get it inside piece by piece I'm glad to have it set up and working.
The next video will be installing a 3-axis DRO. Many more videos and projects to come in the very near future!

MISTAKE: Hi all, the 2nd cut was actually 6mm depth not 4mm as noted in the video! Missed the error during rendering sorry - TinkerInTheShop

This design has been around a long time. I have a version sold by Grizzly Industrial in the US. My mill was made in 1999. Back then Grizzly sourced from Taiwan. I purchased it from the original owner in 2017.
I replaced the single phase motor with 3 phase motor and VFD. I eliminated the middle auxiliary pulley since it was not easy to change the short belts with 3 pulleys.
Tramming the head is fiddly due to no screws to adjust the head tilt, just nudge-and-fudge.
The single rather long spindle handle was often in the way when lowering the quill for milling. I purchased a car steering wheel. Now even if I hit my head on the steering wheel it is soft so does not cause bruises.
Enjoy your mill. I use mine often.
    Dave.

      Hi Dave,
Yes I've known about these clones for a long time. The Warco seems to be the new "Best" out of the bunch and having spoken to other owners and looked at pictures etc I think they're a step above with probably the Harbor Freight being the "worst". ALthough I've seen some awful examples under the grizzly badge (Purely new machines)
So far I'm more than happy with the purchase. I find the 3 pulleys not an issue so far although I do have the 3PH motor wired to a vfd for general rpm changes.
Haven't decided on the quill handle yet, The spring is definitely too strong so I need to look into that.
Looking forward to many good years service with this machine. Thanks for commenting!

Your Warco does look to be well made. I agree HF may be the worst, very hit and miss quality.

That’s a very nice looking mill / drill you have there. Very well manufactured and the finish to detail is spot on. Congratulations, I’m sure it will give you years of trouble free operation. Cheers 🍻, Aaron

Is this single or three phase? Seems to run smoothly. 👍

Its 3 phase. I immediately swapped the motor winding and added a VFD when I received the machine. My two lathes are also 3ph running via VFD's.

@@TinkerInTheShop I've just ordered a VMC I think I will do the same thing, convert it to 3 phase + VFD in the future. Hopefully I've done the right thing! Have you had any problems with yours?

@@machinist_matt No problems. Its a decent machine. Can take fairly heavy cuts with the right cutter and feeds. I recently added a power feed unit on the X axis which has been a fantastic upgrade.

@@machinist_mattForgot to mention, a few years ago I also added a 3-axis DRO which was another excellent upgrade.

@@TinkerInTheShop Good to hear you haven't had any problems! 👍 I ordered mine with the factory 2 axis DRO so I'll only need to add one for the Z axis. 😎
