    I can see the 6505 being the ideal Lead sound, while the Marshall is the ideal Rhythm tone.
    The 6505 has a nice punchy modern metal tone, whereas the DSL100 has a much 'fuller' sound, with a thunderous mid-range and tight low-end.

  • @larsbjrnstad2191
    @larsbjrnstad2191 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I prefer the Peavey again. 6505 defines the modern metal tone! Like the Mesa, the Marshall was quite fizzy in comparison...

    • @crashdummy40

      Almost too low. Like it's trying to compensate for mid clarity with extra chunk. Pretty even when hitting one string. Who really knows unless you tweek everything yourself.

    It's amazing how people can listen to the same thing and draw totally different conclusions. For me, the Marshall sounded really scooped and fizzy. It kinda had that Master of Puppets vibe, though, which was cool. I'm watching this video because I picked up a 6505+ combo tonight and I'm just browsing around, so maybe this is confirmation bias, I don't know. I got a fantastic deal on it and I'm almost thinking about trying to move and it make some money on it, so I'm not all "TEAM 6505+" or anything, but man, it sounded much fuller in the video. Present without sounding nasal or buzzy, and really rich in the low mids. I just liked it better. I enjoy these videos, I bought a Hughes & Kettner TriAmp MkII because of your shootout video with it, so keep it up, it's appreciated!

      Personally I always thought peavey 6505 to be the best all around metal amp. It has everything you need without being too special. Need a good midrange tone for some modern or new death metal? 6505 has it, need extreme gain and low end for old school death? It's got it. Need some thrashy tones? It can do it. It's not gonna dominate everything but it's a really great amp!

  • @countzero5150

    I've watched most of this channels "dsl vs x" shootouts and it seems like the comments on every one of them are people saying the dsl sounds better. But I'm just not hearing it. To me the dsl sounds very scooped and fizzy. Like the bass and treble are set to 10 and the mids are 0 with the gain turned all the way up.

    Marshall sounds really compressed. I love the DSL 1 for bedroom use. But it does seem too compressed for me. The TS9 doesn’t help that either. Other drives sound more open. But Peavey for me in this one. Check out the Invective it’s really good

    @TriCrow Studios I have the DSL15 and the DSL20, and you are right: The HR generation has a slight treble boost vis-a-vis the H. Put differently, and to give anyone reading this an idea, the H sounds more like the Peavey here, but nowhere near the level of low mids/mids (600-800Hz) that the Peavey has. Overall, I perceive the HR as more scooped and fizzier than the H, but, as I have learned from your videos, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I perceive the Peavey sound as more modern, whereas the DSL sound is more Mesa like in quality. Still British but with a dose of the American. Someone in the comments below compared the DSL to Master of Puppets. I would say that's a pretty good comparison.

  • @jeffcook1054
    @jeffcook1054 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is an old video but from your playthrough the Marshall seems like it has room to breathe the 6505+ seems like it is more sterile. I do have the Marshall DSL100HR I am enjoying it. I do run pedals through it also. At the moment I am running the Marshall through a modified Crate cab with vintage British Celestion Greenbacks, and I have a Joyo Meteor lunchbox amp going through a block letter Peavey 5150 cab using a Radial aby switcher with pedals. I have not tried the Marshall with the 5150 cab yet, but I may swap the two heads. I am a solo artist so I experiment with sound and tones. I figure with the setup I run I can make my sound fuller with both amp heads and cabinets since I am the only guitarist. Do not get me wrong the 6505+ does sound awesome but it seems like it is more locked in rhythm territory. It would be interesting to hear you record a song with both amps with bass and drums but use the Marshall on one cut and the 6505+ on another. I believe both amps will compliment two guitarists in a band. Both amps to me seem solid for lead or rhythm. Thank you for you review.

    I never could get the tone I wanted from Peavey amps. Of course not counting the 5150s. There's always some weird nasally frequency I can never get rid of no matter how much I tweak or even use EQs. I guess Marshall sort of has the same issue in that there are certain characteristics they have that you can't get away from completely but I LIKE that issue with Marshall amps 😄 Just my ears I guess. To each their own of course 😁

    For the price the dsl is so much better IMO, But I can’t say one is better because people have different uses for their amps. So for the Marshall because it’s got some Fuzz with it but it’s no overpowering everything else. Also IMO the marshal sounds more modern then the peavy that IMO doesn’t sound like something I’d use for myself.

  • @ubertwerpify

    My 2 favorite brands of amps
    I think Peavey sounds heavier - with more lows and low mids which for most hard rock i think wins, but EQ could make them a closer match- I do love Marshall and on its own without a comparison probably would have enjoyed more- But compared to Peavey it sounded too top trebly and thin- more balls to Peavey
