Chasing FGA’s brand new SD70Ms across North Florida!

- Wednesday evening I received a heads up that 2 of FGA’S brand new SD70Ms would take their first trip east of Tallahassee on TA-East. I couldn’t pass that up so Thursday morning I head south down to Chaires and meet up with a couple of friends and we chase TA-East all the way to Lee and on their return trip. Csx still runs on this line a grain train out of baldwin from Illinois.They always run at night 2 times a week.
@JoeBlow-jj9uu No, they do not, they've sold the Tallahassee Main, from Baldwin to New Orleans. CSX used to run the Waycross to New Orleans on that route, they now go through Georgia and Alabama to New Orleans now, they really have nothing to do with the line as of now, FGA exchanges freight with them at the Baldwin Yard, there are still customers in Gadsden County.

Great video and explanation along this forgotten, but still important, east-west route. I like to see 'dropped signals' especially at 12:20.
Ive been on FGA tracks before in Chipley, FL but never actually seen one otheir trains. Makes me want to go back and catch one! Great video!
I don’t recommend chipley to Railfan as they come very scattered times. Only run on weekdays btw, I would recommend if you are on the chipley side go to Pensacola-Milton sub and they run morning and early afternoon. Or go to the TA-East like shown in the video. They run morning and afternoon as well!
Now they need to take the EMD SD70M-2s to Progress Rail in Paterson, Georgia for some TLC then once they are reworked and repainted send them back to the FGA fleet. These are great. My buddy Ivan that I worked at CSX Transportation with down in Miami out of Hialeah Yard now works for FGA out of Live Oak. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
What they should do is take up the opportunity to buy some of BNSF's SD70MACs since the majority of them are for sale.

What section are you on? Is it the Attapulgus sub?
I'm in the Defuniak Springs area. I haven't seen the new locos yet, but I've heard they've been spotted in my area.

I moved to Lake City last year, and I've been trying to catch an FGA train, but I never succeeded. Is there a way I can track the trains, or do you know what time of the day they normally pass through Lake City?
Recently, 6-7 AM and returning at 12-1 PM.

What does a day on this line look like?
Usually 10-15 trains a day coming at all times. Only run on weekdays. TA-East is highly reliable get to the tracks in the morning and afternoon and you should get two. There is lots of other subs but I don’t know a whole lot about them. I am always railfanning the TA-East.
