    Hi. I'm 79 with a damaged left hand. But for over 45 years I was a production potter. You have a very good start. I put a small sponge on a chop stick with a rubberband to get water cleaned up in small pieces like a mug. Two things that you might want to learn is a left handed pull and the use of ribs. There is a very good young potter from Ukraine doing videos. Great style. If you put in his first name in TH-cam you can watch his videos. Vladik Oladik. Take care

    I like the idea of putting a mirror on the other side of the wheel so you can see the profile of what you're working on without taking a step back. I hadn't heard that one before.

    Loved this. Thank you. I had a dream my daughter would become a flower farmer, and with that, make clay vases. Over never done this before and this video was very helpful. Her wheel is just a tiny one, but it's a good starter. Thanks so much!

    Not bad! Nice to see young people making pottery! We have to make sure that these skills doesn't dissappair ! People have to make things on their own instead of waiting industries to make it for them in the massive quantities and spoiling the earth .;) Also dont' forget you can easily make pots on the computer and make them in real live with plaster molds!! Greetings from Belgium.(Tom)

    This video is so helpful!! I'm in a ceramics class in college and we've been throwing on the wheel for a few weeks, but due to covid we only get 3 hours a week on campus. And this video is so helpful because I keep making little bowls and I really want to make a mug

      I’m so glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! It can be tricky because you only really learn through practice! Hope you get more time on the wheel soon. :)

      ME TOO!!! I am so glad I am not the onky one!!!! I am in my ceramics 2 class and I was the onky one in the class with no wheel experience. I transfered so the rest of the class had moved up together while I was the outsider. Im not the best, I'm not even that good, but I am proud of everything I make because I know how often I fail so when I make something decent its worth keeping. Good luck in all your pottery adventures!!!!

    Your technique about how to cut the base and trim the extra with needle tool is new to me and a total game changer. Thanks for the tip! I used it immediately and have the cleanest base I’ve ever had. 6 months quarantine 300lb of clay newbie. :-)

    Nice to see another potter's ideas, liked the use of sponge. Note you use multiple fingers, I only use thumb inside and finger inside hence problems. Maybe repeat video with an overhead view? Simon.

    Nice video :) if you make another, would you go deeper in to finger positioning when pulling? What pressure do you put in your inside hand/outside hand when making a cylinder? Thanks! Nice work :)

    • @thibaultconner4576
      @thibaultconner4576 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      not much pressure is needed, a little goes a long way! the clay will almost mould to where your fingers push it! sometimes its trial and error with pressure

    Certainly, we all eat and drink... Therefore, ceramic food containers are a must to have handy. And ceramics, glazed properly, are perfectly washable and microwave safe.
    But, could you tell me: why in the world do we need more pots and more mugs?
    I haven't seen a 'potter' make a cup. They make mugs.... But I will keep on looking.
    Thanks, you are really 👍

      put it in a bucket with some water just above where the clay is! itll turn it to slip(: from there you can wedge it or use it as slip whatever you prefer!

    • @alliejcurtin
      @alliejcurtin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend finding classes to take to make sure you love it because the start up cost for doing pottery can be really high. I know that may be difficult right now but you could look around or find your closest ceramic shop and talk to people who work there to see if they know anyone who offers lessons. :)
