Was Nearest enslaved or not? Interesting take on historical fact.

This was after slavery, but that's a tricky subject. I think people believe as soon as slavery ended all of a sudden people loved each other😂😂 you know like people think Thomas Jefferson and his enslaved person fell in love😂😂😂😂I get her tactic because certain people don't like the truth. I think that's why the internet took this story and twisted it because they assumed he was enslaved and we know the history with that. But it's not like that practice stop because chattel slavery ended, shit it still goes on today. But I do believe the Internet is just filled with people trying to feel better. They will claim a white man stole it, yet won't support her liquor. I don't really know how I feel about the story to be honest. When she said they had to maintain a 3.0 it reminded me just how the relationship between that brother in those white guy was at that time.

@christianjiancc the power dynamic was off the scale in favor of Daniels regardless of whether Nearest was "owned" by Daniels or not. Even if Nearest willfully shared and "mentored" it would be in duress further evidenced by a lack of appropriate partnership. I'm definitely a supporter of the brand but this narrative gives me pause. No need to romanticize their dynamic. "Nearest taught Daniels what he knew. We're building on that legacy. " That's enough.

@@jsnaggs Exactly!!! I believe we share the same perspective. It's also important to recognize that we still navigate business/life within that same power structure. This reality or our perception of it dictates that we're expected to enlighten others about our experiences with them without causing discomfort. The more comfortable we make them, the further we progress. History is a witness to those that don't make them feel comfortable.
