Loving this build 💪🏻
1600 / 40hrs is 40 weeks. Pretty impressive time frame in my opinion. From first tube cut to out the door, that’s damn impressive.
Loving the build too,
Cheers 🍻🍻🇦🇺
You should make bullhorns for is new setup
@cjracecars most couldn’t wrap their heads around the fact that when you break it down into an hourly perspective and the skill that goes into this that’s ACTUALLY “not a lot of money”
@@Aaron_Hanson multiple employees help out on it so factor that in.
Great build and congrats on finally getting some more subs and well deserved attention Cam.
@@hanktownsend7911 Quality fabrication skills are priceless. Its truly an art.
Not many folks willing to get straight to the point on the time and cost involved in doing a project like these. Kudos!
Yup, I can never understand why some companies are always so vague about prices.
Same if you want to buy something on-line.
The amount of hoops you need to jump through to get an idea of the costs are ridiculous.
Exactly what I said awesome vid
@@likilikiki I can explain.. People who are building these cars dont have to ask "how much?". They just ask "when can it be done?". The amount of people who email or call companies asking for a price, 99% of them can't afford it.
@@likilikiki So they can have additional costs after the fact, and so they can charge people whatever they want per car. They do it to kind of cover their ass in a way, but also to make more money.
Swanstrom did
1600 hrs in labor alone is massive. Really puts into perspective exactly how "specialty" these cars are.
Agree. Don’t think most realize just how much goes into them.
Completely forgot the title of the video because an add was playing when I read this. My mind said “ain’t no way someone’s surviving 1600 hours of labor. Maybe he meant 16…? But even that’s fatal.” Then the video started playing and it hit me that you where talking about these cars being built and shop labor hours
And if you have a wreck north of 240 mph you'll be DAMN glad you paid for the absolute best
So half million dollars complete
@@tylervaughn6328not quite complete lol
I knew this stuff would be expensive but about $500k all said and done is eye watering. Luckily we are able to live vicariously through ol Cleet. Millions of people will know this car inside and outside as if it were their own
The new Lamborghini Revuelto starts at $700,000 and ol eagle would smoke it! Sounds like a bargain to me. Lol
@@iancunningham485only in a straight line and it’s not fully furnished. Not that this isn’t highly engineered but I’d imagine designing something for drag racing would be easier.
A retro mod cost around the price and a race car is faster 😂
@@13illyxmazeYou'll end up being surprised. Controlling multiple times the horsepower of anything that turns corners is much harder than you think.
@@bradcraig5111 not sure what you are talking about sorry
Easy to see why Tye is such a rock star on the Cleetus channel, this shop is meticulous and creative.
Wldnt take ty 1600hrs to fab a tube chassis together tho either. dude does 12hr jobs in 3hrs like the rest of us Gotta enjoy the per diem rates tho, paid OT but home by lunch.
He told cleetus it would take him a year to build this car by himself. @@hyprjay
@@chucksherron yea, if he ordered the cad specs from china lmaooo it's a 2 week process fora stress tested simulated chassis and then it's purely fab time. I build mega trucks, I've built 34 full tube chassis in the past 4 yrs. Longest one was the rip off steamboat that took 30ish hrs to complete, and easily 8hrs were on the meritor to 20ton planet hubs. Lmao oh and wiring takes about 6-8hrs tops. That's including term x max with smart tech ecu's and push button 4 wheel drive lock. Currently under a 83 k20 on 18.4 rices cause keep snapping left rear axles. Just saying, no chance I cld justify 1000hrs unless u count me sleeping lmao

probably should move the mic up your shirt a bit
@eliotmansfield I mean, maybe yea, but it sounds good at a good volume
Mega respect for just being upfront and saying how much it really costs. So many people beat around the bush,.
From what I’ve found out they do that because they can change what they charge whatever they want. These guys seem extremely straight forward. No one is like this. Sandrail shops trophy truck shops pretty much any shop. They hook there homies up for cheap and charge normal people like me and you double the price to make up for the people they hook up.
It’s a million dollar hobby to start. Car, tow vehicle, trailer, spare parts and all the other things you need. Could easily jump to 1.5-$2 million depending on toter homes and stacker trailer.
If someone is avoiding telling you the out the door cost for anything they’re trying to sell you, they’re either actively screwing you or reserving the right to later on down the line. Either way, they’re not looking out for you and you should take your business elsewhere.
@@mcb0b1 I mean it can be, you don't need to spend this kinda money to go fast and have fun. This is just the tip of the spork of the hobby.
@@nateemmett4485 absolutely. I think we were just assuming the costs to be competitive in this sport. If you are looking to just have fun you are buying a used car and not spending $400k on a new car.
Cleetus brought me here, and now im hooked.
Let’s gooo 💪🏻
Same with Steve Morris and Dr Tune ‘em All and Starr Creations… lmmfao
Same here. Started from cleets car being built. But now can't leave. Lol
I'm Definitely hooked on all the fab and info.
Such a killer shop.
Cleet moves the needle! He literally got Steve Morris 200k subscribers within a 48hr period.
Came as a cleetus fan. Staying as a CJRacecars fan. Going over the back catalogue of videos when I'm nightshift
I’m subbing for 1) Cleetus’ build and 2) because this guy shoots straight with no BS. Which is rare these days. No click bait, just honest and to the point. I have no idea how to fab or weld but I couldn’t watch videos like these all day!
Thanks for the sub.
Respect. Nothing to hide. Most people never talk about price.
People who take pride in their work and know their stuff have no reason to dance around the price.
“We’ll do it right, and we’ll do it right the first time - this is how much that will cost” is the best way to do business. Shop your customers. 👍🏻
@@Christopher_R ok sure
I believe this is the only channel I’ve watched (now multiple) videos where they’re up front about labor and costs associated with these builds. Thanks for being transparent, it really is interesting and informative. 👍
Brother, those are some of the cleanest welds I've ever seen. When you were zooming in at first in the intro I couldn't even tell it was welded until you got closer.
So much respect for someone to come out and no nonsense talk facts and figures. No-one does this and you have earned and will keep me as a subscriber.
Thanks for the sub.
Shops here in the SF Bay, CA charge $250-300/hr for mostly bondo and some sheet metal work. $140/hr for a top-down racing frame may seem insanely cheap, but I also don't see any race shops here in the bay working with much Aluminum, let alone 1600 hours building 4130 chromoly tubing/titanium race cars...without a doubt, hats off to CJRC.
The actual chassis is 4130 Chrome Moly tubing that has to pass SFI certification. 4-link bars, control arms, pedals, and many more trinkets are Titanium but not the frame.
@@troy-from-cjrc Thank you Troy!
Props for giving a ballpark price and got to admit, I was expecting it to be more. Basically $500k for a totally custom car, build to the highest standards and out of the best materials, no wonder your garage is full of work! People spend way more than that on basically forecourt cars, which anyone can own. When I win the lottery, you’ll be getting a big box from the UK with Ford Capri body panels, to build me a carbon and titanium beauty 😊
That's got to be the first "what it costs" video I've watched that actually talked about what it cost! That was refreshing. Thank you for going over and sharing that! Damn you build some nice cars, wish I could work in your shop.
When I was in school for Collision repair and painting, I also took a "High Performance Fabrication" class. On the mechanics side of the school, they offered a "High Performance Engines" class. They didn't allow us to take the other class unless we did the whole year long mechanics course, which would double our time at the school, but what y'all do is exactly what I had in mind when I wanted to take both of them. I currently just paint cars, because I can't weld for shit XD. So I am in awe of teams like y'all that make these cars from scratch. INSANE work.
I mean the man just bought an airport, I think he can swing that price 😂. I've watched cleet since his first video proud of what he's accomplished for the motorsports community.
He’s definitely grown a hugeeee brand.
Airport, racetrack, helicopter, wo many engines and transmissions. And now he's going to build a new house. I hope he's making his buddies filthy rich. Depressing
@@OttoByOgraffeyThe 1320 channel just did a feature video on him . Towards the he said one of his business goals is to keep doing better so he can pay his guys more. He said something to the effect that he wanted to help them make their dreams come true.
@@OttoByOgraffey considering everyone in the crew has new vehicles, drag cars, and tons of other project, I’m sure Cletus is paying them quite well.
The crew is definitely getting paid.. they're a happy bunch
I appreciate the transparency I've always wondered but felt it taboo to ask as most everyone don't like to talk money. I have even more appreciation to the craft now , thanks.
Tye literally said it would take him a year on his own, great insight into how much work is involved
He estimated pretty right too!...1600 hours is 10 weeks(nearly 1/4 year) of 4 guys doing 40 hour weeks
Glad yall got the microphones!!!! Audio is a lot better!!
GDAY wow 1600 hours for a total ground up build imo is fast. masters of their craft i would say have that number down to 1600 for all the math and fitment that goes along with building something like this kudos on the level quality and workmanship
Now imagine it around 150$ an hour... ooof
@@nasty3145 gotta have it to spend it first lol
@@nasty3145they aren't charging $150/hrs. That alone would be 240k. Pretty sure they aren't paying -15k for materials.
@@johnfroelich2066 you don’t pay by the hour for these kind of builds. But it seems like you know that already. Any “hourly” rate would just be a breakdown of whatever
I was put onto your channel because of the Cleetus build and I have to say I’ve almost made it through your whole video library and your work is absolutely amazing to see and watch.
Thanks for following 🙏🏻💪🏻
Something about watching a pro work on stuff is so relaxing. I'm an engineer and I work on computers all day. Love getting off work and relaxing to build videos. Thanks!
I respect the transparency. You guys do top-tier work
Good stuff! We've had the opportunity to build 2 steel bodied Willys. 1 pro street ,1 gasser. Glad to hear the respect for those really cool and rare pieces of History.....
I was under by 20% all said and done turn key stuff adds up and quality isn't cheap. Looking good!

Building my 66 Mustang myself. Hanging panels, tubbing, pretty much making everything myself. It's definitely eye opening how many hours go into these, especially starting from scratch like y'all do. If anyone finds my tubing bender id appreciate it back so I can finish up my cage...damn thieves.
Remember in Days of Thunder when Cruise's character admited he could not explain how he wanted the car, he just knew when it was right? That's me. I've raced since 1980, ( late start at 24).
This is soooooo fascinating.
Very good explanations on the differences between small-tire and big-tire configurations.
Thanks!!! Super video and so informative. You and your guys are the Pro’s Pro. You packed a lot of content into
I found this fascinating, as someone who isnt technically minded it gave me a good insight without going over my head. Looking forward to further progress.
Watching from Scotland 🏴🏴🏴
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻💪🏻
I am so happy for cleeter and the gang that he has come so far to be able to do this. That dude is living the racers dream. I’m a dirt track guy and this kind of stuff is way cooler to see behind the scene
I have been a weldor fabricator for the last 20+ years. I can appreciate everything you're doing and what you're saying those welds are Aerospace quality brother. Although I like Kevin at KSR his welds leave a little bit to be desired, large HAZ on his apparent material. Same thing for Tye
As a complete normie, appreciate all the insight into building a chassis. Just pure craftsmanship, no cutting corners
As someone who wants to learn to weld so i can make custom mounts and whatnot for cars, this is inspiring.
I’m impressed with how candid you were with the cost involved. Thank you
So many nasty cars come out of CJR. You guys really kill the game.
🙏🏻💪🏻
Audio was better, maybe just a touch more volume and you're golden.
Loving this build, had no idea the cost was around 225K without the other goodies! Keep up the great updates and hopefully when it's all said and done, you'll be able to make time to see Garrett rundown track.
Awesome we have been trying to get the audio right. We will definitely be at the track to support the first few outings at least.
Talking about cost, mentioning what is included, what isn't, not gatekeeping and finally acknowledging that it is alot, now this is the way to do it!
I remember a friend wanted a full tube roller and it was $40,000 in the 90’s for a Firebird.
Things have changed!
Regardless, as You’d said, If You want to go fast, that’s the price. STELLAR work! Thanks for sharing this with us.
40k in 1990 was almost 100k in today's money so still a decent chunk of change. But ye everything has definitely got more expensive
@@yota8325 For sure! I had a Mustang built in the mid 90’s with a back half, 14 point cage, glass nose/doors and trunk fitted for $13,500. Good to 7.50. I thought THAR was a lot! lol!
Really cool how you actually put the cost out there I’m sure most wouldn’t be willing to speak about it. Cars looking awesome!
Glad to see these kinds of posts because a lot of people dont appreciate the time it takes to build performance cars & systems
Thanks for being real and open about it. That’s what I always wonder is how much it all costs.
Realy like how in-depth you go really helps everyone understand what it takes
Great video. Nice to see honest shop owner. May just be sick of phone calls from folks looking to spend $15-20K on full race setup. You can be like Garrett. Sell enough caps at $25 that you paid .45 cents for and tees the same. Just like NASCAR. Smart drivers always want a cut of the merchandise sales. Jeff Gordon used to make $4 million + a year in his heyday not including prize money.
I'll add to the comments that this was a super sweet straight to the point video. Appreciate that loads man. Subbed and liked. Look forward to seeing your future projects. Thanks for posting! Ringo
Call it half a million, which makes sense. I remember Parker (Cleetus' brother) making comments about how Mullet is a half-million dollar car too, and it wasn't purpose built like this is.
It'd be cheaper if they'd laid out the current plan from the start, instead of repurposing the whole thing - and more expensive if they'd have bought a new SMX, instead of the scratch-and-dent. Which is currently limited by the chassis anyway.
225k is nuts for a roller but what people don't realize is how expensive titanium is and how many feet of bar is needed for something like that. What kind of weight difference there is between the same chassis setup in Steele vs the titanium and how that will effect overall times. This car is going to be so much lighter than mullet yet way stiffer. Fantastic work I wish I could afford something like that.
Audio loads better, thanks for addressing that
Bro those welds and the time u guys take and the precision ooooooft bro amazing
250k 1600hrs Thats about 160/hr if it was just labor
Not to mention 1600hrs straight would be nearly 2 months on its own
So for say 4-5 months of hard work every day, perfecting everything and making it safe with such high quality, not to mention parts and machinery used; if say you have that kind of money, it'd be money well fricken spent. Awesome work guys
I've got 1800 hours clocked in csgo, now cs2.... that took me roughly 7 years of playing the game.... And you are telling me the builds take around 1600 hours? DAMN!! I can see how that is fairly priced when you add the materials on top + the expertise and perfection that goes into the labor.
Yeah tons of work.
Cameron continues to impress, straight to the point about what it cost. Yall do amazing work, and it shows in how yalls cars preform
What also gets me excited to see, is how many people are becoming fans of pro modified, alcohol cars and nitro cars and so on..! Which is obviously amazing for car builders, fans of the sport..and I can go on and on!
Crazy how much titanium is used now :)
Beautiful craftsmanship!!
love the work been watching for some time nothing like a proven build .
I've dreammed about working in a shop like this since I was a kid. I chose a different path in life but I have such a huge appreciation for those of you who build and create such amazing hotrods. If u have to ask ur in the wrong bracket, 5 sec cars isnt about money, thats bragging rights, and mass saftey.
Awsome video. Thank u giraffe for bringing us here. And squirrel...
Like how you just lay it out there. No beating around the bush. This is how many hours and this is what your looking at spending. Great channel man
You make it sound like 1600 hours is a lot but when I look at the meticulous attention to detail and the level of craftsmanship a build like this requires, I'm surprised it only take that long. This rig will be competing at levels at the top of the food chain for the ordinary, no big sponsors, type of driver. I have no experience in this field but I can tell amazing work when I see it. Kevin at KSR did some pretty awesome things with the "Mullet" build and I think it's accomplished more than even he thought possible. This thing is from another planet and built specifically to purpose and that purpose is going fast. Can't wait to see her finished and our boy in the 5's or deep 6's consistently, (depending on power plant, trans, track and tire), and bringing home the trophies one after another. It's going to be exciting to say the least and again I can not wait to see it.
Take care and God Bless...
Can see why Ty said it would take him close to a years. If one guy worked 40hrs a week on the job it would take 40 weeks. That’s he had assuming no set backs, space availability, material availability and access to all the tools/fixtures required. Definitely a job best left to a proper chassis building shop
Thanks for the content and disclosure, Cleet obviously chose a shop that was perfect for this build. Very cool to see the process and high quality craftsmanship!
Whewww lord Jesus I figured it was pricey but I'm sure it's worth it. Everything in that shop looks top notch.
I was thinking it would be more with the 1600 hours labor. That’s pretty fair considering how impressive your final product is.
It would be golden if CJRC hits 100k before Swanstrom! 🤣
Shewwwww buddy! Not cheap to be sure, but y'all do awesome work.
Hey Cameron glad to see the channels blowing up I know it always would thanks Cleetus for helping out Tell Troy and Danny I said hi
Thanks you and I will.
I'll never be able to afford something like this so I appreciate it when companies are straight forward, keep it up!
Incredible and transparent detail! Thank you so much!
Maybe because it's because I work in nuclear power, but pricing was exactly what I was expecting. Gotta pay to play! Beautiful work, gents.
Happy to see it could still do a big tire later if he ever decided to. I'd love to see this as a quasi-tom bailey style car.
I may have gasped at that Willys build. My dream ride is a done up 41 Willys pickup. Yup extremely rare!
Building a car of that caliber out of a bunch of parts and tubing takes time and money. The level of craftsmanship is awesome.
Just what fans want to see IMO. What does it cost, and how long it takes. Thank you
As many, I found about you guys through Cleetus. I've been loving your content so far, you seem profesional, down to earth and straight to the point.
Ive built cages with a hand bender and a bench top notcher so i can fully appreciate what these guys do and understand the cost of the notchers, welders and the qualified welders they have to make it all come together. I was thinking $280 rolling but when you mentioned all the titanium, plumbed with headers etc so $220-5 was kind of surprising. Quality work is pricey but when its your life on the line that money is irrelevant imo
Cheap ain't fast and going fast ain't cheap. Beautiful work guys!
Sounds expensive to some people, but they need to remember that these are the best of the best, you could still do a pretty good sportsman car under $100k. "If you wanna play, you gotta pay"
Home equity loan for sure 😂
😂😂😂
shiiiiiiid, I'd have to take out a home equity loan on my 4th mortgage! LMAO ! #doublewidelife
Thanks for the info..You guys really do top notch work. Many people think building a competitive car might cost a third of that at most. It's really eye opening. And I agree, I'm just a restorer of classic cars (C1 and C2 corvettes) and parts costs are through the roof!
Love the honesty on how much money and time these take to build. Seems like everyone wants to be hush hush about these things, so to hear you say it was refreshing. You've earned yourself a new subscriber, congratulations and best of luck.

Dang. I knew this type of custom race car was expensive but I had No clue that guys have half a million dollars in them completed 😮. That’s wild.
