Crying out loud, why hasn't this channel got at least 100k subscribers? The quality and lengths this guy goes to is through the roof, genius! I could sit and watch him all day.
Here in the states, there are plenty of repair shops and electricians who are qualified to repair various electronics, but Mark is the only one I've ever seen that has a full suite of DIY fabrication tools and supplies, as well as the skills to create rare parts on the fly. What an incredible wealth of knowledge. Having a repair guy with Mark's skills living or working in your hometown is a vintage hi-fi enthusiast's dream.
There’s seemingly no end to the extent of Mark’s talent. Just when I thought the video was wrapped up and the project completed he then molds a matching switch lever to top it off. Truly impressive.
I’ve never seen a repair video with a cliffhanger before. But Mark sure had me wanting to see how this ends! He manages to explain what he’s doing while being entertaining. It’s a joy to watch someone at work that is so passionate about what they do. So glad that I stumbled across this channel…now I’m addicted!
It's a treat to see you fabricate the extra bits and bobs as a surprise finish every time when there is something broken or missing. I guess that's the cherry on the cake for you as well! Great job Mark, this was an awesome repair job! And as a side note: guys who just watch and haven't subscribed: Please subscribe! This channel deserves much more subscribers than 136k!
I've seen quite a few videos of hifi equipment repairers on TH-cam but this is the first time I've seen someone remanufacture plastic buttons. Hats off.
Stumbled upon this channel a few weeks back and it is a joy to see you work! That extra step of the knobs was the cherry on top of the cake! Awesome work Mark! Cheers from Portugal!
Mark, what more can I write, now that I have already written to/about you, so many times, on this great and educational channel of yours...? Your litany of impressive skills are truly A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ! ! ! ! ! BTW fine sir; You happen to have the BEST electronics repair/refurbishment channel on TH-cam (at least in my humble opinion)! Thank You so much for taking out the time to create these videos and sharing yourself with all of us. I understand that making videos is an entire job in and of itself... Also, please always keep on smiling like you always do Mr. Smiley ! ! ! Your pleasant demeanor, whilst repairing things, is wholly contagious. Thank You! Fred
Over performing caps across the board can be a sign that they're starting to develop parallel resistance and leak DC, they appear to be higher values because they take longer to charge due to the parallel resistance taking some of the charge current the meter uses to measure the charge time. You should really also do a DC leakage test on them as well,
At 11:35 those caps are usually Ok unless used close to their rated voltage. Then they leak! The quality of these units is amazing, we had such wealth in the 1970s, and good music too. Epic moulding scene, they came out really well!
I love this channel. The solutions this man has for every problem are genius! I saw a video about a Pioneer SX-550 where he used brush silverplating to restore a power switch. I've never seen that level of commitment and dedication - a true passion for his work!
This job looked like such a headache, yet Mark was full of confidence and expertly nailed all the faults, epic. Molding that new switch was very skillful and a real touch of class. Most repairmen wouldnt bother.
please for every amplifier you repair, try to connect it with speakers so I can hear the sound quality, I'm waiting for that, thank you for your hard work love from indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Well you can't hear it being good, you could only hear it if it was worse than your devices. Could show on a scope or such. But your listening device will be your listening device
I love that you don't just throw out the nice old caps - these are going to last longer than new ones maybe, when they have proven to be able to last for almost 50 years with no problems I would trust them more than new ones
I had an SU 3500 that I bought new soon after release all those years ago whilst I was still living with my parents. Your video brought back many happy memories. Great skills and craftsmanship. Thanks.
Mark, you're the best, hands down! I'd love to purchase an older Sansui receiver from you if you ever come across one or have one! I've been looking for YEARS! ANYBODY???
The led mod, ideally ,as its AC driven should have a diode in parallel,as the AC could exceed the reverse voltage of the led, usually around 5 volts. Love you vids. Thank you.
I was given one of these amps by a friend but it has a silver front, He bought it new in the 70's, the power switch broke around twenty years ago, The techie couldn't source a replacement so he bypassed it, It has to be switched off at the socket on the wall! I was amazed at the brilliant sound quality of the amp compared to my Technics stack system from the same era! Keep up the great work Mark 👍😎
I watched some guy that knew what he was doing bodge the shitnitze out of a laptop the other day, but Mark? What an artist! What a crafts man! I can't believe there are still people out there that absolutely care and love the stuff they do, but then Mark gives me hope. It's so nice to see him loved by the comments. As for his little chuckle, that's because he ain't afraid of getting stuck in to the mystery and pinpointing the problem. Just marvellous to watch. And the PRICE OF THE EQUIPMENT!!! OMFG!!!!
I just saw part one by luck last night. I couldn’t go to sleep until I finished watching it all. By the end of it. I was so sleepy I was wondering why I was watching Tony Soprano fixing a stereo amplifier. You are one of the good ones mark. I can’t wait to see more of your channel.
Great work, Mark! I like that you don't just blindly replace caps; this has become too much of a disease among amateurs/dabblers (shows you're obviously not one of them). In fact, most of those pale blue Matsushita caps are of extremely high quality; it's just a small batch of them that leak and get corroded. It's usually better to leave them in, because they were overbuilt (unlike modern ones that often are very near their tolerance limits).
Fixing amps and restoring them are very different things. Restoring amps like Mark takes a large dollop of passion and experience, and the labor costs would realistically be a good proportion of the amp's overall value. It's worth every effort and will be appreciated by generations to come.
It’s always amazed me every time I watched you doing your skills it is like learning a lesson from an electronics classes, but way more detailed. Loved every minute I am glued watching.
I enjoy Mark's videos because so much of the equipment he has has been on my lab bench at one time or another. I especially miss the old HP stuff. Especially the HP 200 tube type oscillator.
That will be £895 please Richard. I did this work from 1986 to 2000, but rarely dismantled anything so completely. Also managed with simpler (many custom-made) tools (love the curve-tracer btw). Nicest man on You Tube.
High there Mark, l been watching your youtube channel from day one and what you do is amazingly inspiring to watch. I love how you can resolve most issues if not all of them. Keep up the good work.
I love how Mark always goes the extra mile. Casting those selector knobs was genius.
Or madness. Wouldn't a 3D printer work with this?
No, he mentioned it was too intricate inside 😊
@@AdamF1972 But now he can measure the mold to reproduce the inside!
Now me, I'd have gone the Ebay route to find similar type switches. Or found a similar amp which is knackered to strip for bits.
Amazing!

Give it time. Will get there.
it will in time
And I have watched all day 😂

I do hope the customer appreciates the amount of work you put into repairing this amp.

Magnificent job Mark, that's was a great watch ! Have to say, the last 10 minutes was beyond amazing, that was fantastic!! Oh, happy birthday Wilma :)

Marks a genius, his work is unbelievable, truly talented guy who always goes the extra mile.
I used to have a Mark equivalent living over the road from me. Sad day when he moved away. The world needs more Marks!!
It’s like he is talking in a foreign language fluently! Genius and personable 😊
Just as I thought the video was finished Mark goes and makes 3 moulded switches from scratch. Epic.

Nice repair. I'd probably put the replacement knob on the least used switch, keep the wear and tear off it.
