The first time I saw this I cried. All those men, on both sides, were heros. I hate that their young lives were cut short. Manfred has been my hero for quite some time. I love his way of thinking, he was a Soldier to the core! I pray that he has found the rest and peace that he deserves. He lives forever in our hearts.
How anyone can dislike a man with so much love for dogs is beyond me. It's sad how many people cannot distinguish WW1 German soldiers from the Nazis in WW2.
93 years ago today a brave warrior fell fom the sky. Manfred, you live on forever in our hearts and we will never forget you. May all of your days be filled with beautiful blue skies.
Just a young guy, that was extremely talented. He enjoyed laughing, and seemed to have a really good personality. It's a shame he wasnt able to survive the war and live a full life. I always wondered if he had survived, how would he be caught up in Hilter's mess?
I too, love the bit where he is getting piled with dogs. Von Richtofen was a warrior's warrior. The great warrior who hated war. I have been to Von Richtofen's grave, and there is something moving about it... I'm sorry he did not survive the war. Unlike his fellow pilot Hermann Goerring, I doubt he would have supported Hitler, and with his rep, may have been able to successfully oppose him. We'll never know.
Manfred von Richthofen was certainly a hero. Germans of all generations should not forget what MvR, along with many other young German pilots, did for their country, ultimately sacrificing their own lives for future generations. May they all rest in peace in Valhalla.
@ph0d0pus Also, (sorry this is so long) I know you said you wanted more than books but if you can pick up a copy of In the Footsteps of the Red Baron it will give you directions to airfield sites, historical sites and locations of the graves of pilots he shot down and more.
@ph0d0pus Thats great! Take lots of pictures and let me know how things look. I don't know who the pilots are, I have often wondered mself. It would take some invstigating. I would need to know what Jasta the pilots were in, what year it was. Sounds like a fun project to take up...
My Dad fought with the 14th AF in China, (the Flying Tigers). These guys flew like madmen but acted like gentlemen. For some stories about them, see my Facebook page...
to princes13 -- as a matter of fact, at the end of part 2 of this video, you will see three men, the man on the far right is one of Von Richthofen's pilots -- Hermann Goerring, who was Hitler's commander of the Luftwaffe. He's a lot skinnier than in WW2 but it's him. He was scheduled to be hanged for war crimes, but managed to get some poison smuggled to him and cheated the hangman. Also, to the idiot who was talking about Von Riochtofen's "shooting men in the back" -- that is air combat !
Brown isn still credited with Von Richtofens downing. The ground fire theory is just that...a theory proposed post war by the media and some surviving infantry, decades after Brown's death. The "Kaput" comment is also bunk. Brown was always very modest about the whole affair (and was just happy to have saved his friend Wop May) however he stated the Baron was seen to slump in his cockpit after he fired a burst into the plane. We will never know for sure.
@PlushGallade I can't quite understand what you typed. I have read many things about him and never once did I see anything that said he was a racist. As for being an idiot, I guess thats a personal conclusion though I don't think you have anything to support that claim either. When you're able to strip away the fact that we were at war and just look at the man himself you can see he was a brave and honorable man. As a Soldier, I admire his military bearing and loyalty to his men.
onachbaur--you are doing better than me speaking 2 languages so I do not know if there is a translation problem but Germans call home the FATHERland. Russians use the term MOTHERland.
@DandAinTac You know I thought the same thing you did at first but then i became glad that they passed away during WW1 and they didn't get to see or turned into Nazis. If they had lived WW1 and continued to WW2 their heroic deeds of WW1 would have been forgotten and the world would have thought of them as Nazis and not heros during WW2!! Im not happy that they passed away, they were all very young, but Its better that they didn't have anything to do with WW2
@PlushGallade Well then who are you calling racist? I don't understand what you typed. Not trying to be mean but that paragraph makes no sense to me. The first time I read it I actually wondered if English wasn't a first language . if its not thats fine, thats not an issue. It just kind of looks like what happens when you run a phrase through an online translator. Again, I'm not trying to be mean or a smart ass. I just saw the word racist and thought thats what you meant.
Who is plushgallade? Is English not his first language? I would have to assume (and hope) that is the case. How was Manfred "racist" or "idiot" One wonders sometimes when others call names if perhaps it is not something they themselves are guilty of... Whether it was Brown or the aussie gunner makes no difference. The world lost a gallant and chivalrous soldier that day. "...in the somber wars of modern democracy, there is little place for chivalry" -- Churchill speaking of Rommel.
That is impossible, seeing as he was killed at the age of 25 having no girlfriend or female partner (there are rumors he was gay), therefore having no offspring. Unless you mean he is a direct family member, you are obviously lieing.

Great, fantastic and immortal Rittmeister Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen!!! Respect forever!!!
the last war with any shred of honor left. this knightly ace Von Richtofen must never be forgotten!
Love the bit where he's getting piled with dogs! Rest in peace, Manfred!
what a great time we live in where we can see someone alive, a hundred years later.

Happy Birthday Manfred!
in case youre not being ironic, the music is from "master and commander"
I was very surprised to have noticed, at the end of this video, a very young Hermann Goering. He succeeded Richtofen. Anyway, great videio.
complimenti davvero...materiale eccezionale!

May I ask where you got those videos? From some documentary? If so, can you tell me the name?

Good old Roy Brown knocked the Baron down......
BROWN DID NOT SHOOT DOWN THE RED BARON
@@laurieannrogan1317 Now young lady please do not change history. We were always taught in Canada that it was the fearless Roy Brown.
