    From Wikipedia:
Ocala (/oʊˈkælə/ oh-KAL-ə) is a city in Marion County, Florida, United States, which is part of the northern region of the state. As of the 2019 census, its population, estimated by the United States Census Bureau, was 60,786, making it the 49th most populated city in Florida.
It is the seat of Marion County and the principal city of the Ocala, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had an estimated 2017 population of 354,353.
The first thoroughbred horse farm in Florida was developed in Marion County in 1943 by Carl G. Rose. Other farms were developed, making Ocala the center of a horse-breeding area. Local horses have won individual races of the Triple Crown series; in 1978, Affirmed, who was bred and trained in Marion County, won all three races, boosting interest in the industry there.
Ocala is one of only five cities (four in the US and one in France) permitted under Chamber of Commerce guidelines to use the title, "Horse Capital of the World", based on annual revenue produced by the horse industry. 44,000 jobs are sustained by breeding, training, and related support of the equine industry, which generates over $2.2 billion in annual revenue. Postime Farms and Ocala serve as host to one of the largest horse shows in the country: H.I.T.S or "Horses in the Sun", a Dressage/Jumper event lasting about two months. It generates some 6 to 7 million dollars for the local Marion County economy each year. The show features classes for over 100 different breeds, including Tennessee Walker, Paso Fino, Morgan horse, Saddlebred, Draft horse and the American Quarter Horse. Other equine events in the area include mounted shooting by the Florida Outlaws, as well as endurance rides, barrel races, extreme cowboy events, jumper shows, trick shows, parades, draft pulls, rodeo events and more.
n the last decades of the twentieth century, the greater Ocala area had one of the highest growth rates in the country for a city its size. The population of Marion County in 2000 was more than 250,000, up from under 100,000 in 1975.
Many historic homes are preserved in Ocala's large residential Historic District, designated in 1984. East Fort King Street features many excellent examples of Victorian architecture. Ocala structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places include the Coca-Cola Building, the E. C. Smith House, East Hall, the Marion Hotel, Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, the Ritz Historic Inn, and Union Train Station.
The original Fort King site was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2004.

I lived in ocala for almost 15 years...then lived in charleston, sc for over 10....now I'm back in Ocala...I can honestly say that if you think Ocala is boring than everywhere else will be boring eventually....lol the only fun I really had was when I lived in columbia, sc for a couple years in my mid twenties and went downtown to drink....but you can really do that anywhere. Charleston is beautiful and has lots of history, but so does Ocala....as you get older you have to make your own fun!

Atlanta was loads of fun, and now I'm in Ocala. Can't wait to get the hell out of here. It's boring, boring, boring. Unless you like to drink, which I don't care for. But, now ATL, that's the place to be, with the exception of GA government, they are dumb as rocks.

@@Deescizzle I met guys that just moved out of ATL and only went because family was there. To those it was pricey. Though there was plenty of work. Also ATL is a lot like other big cities. Lots of crime. Lots of freeways. Lot of drama( it's the NYC of the South). Somehow doesn't get much mention like NYC or Chicago or west coast cities. But its for all the same going on.
So they moved back Up-North and aren't planning on going back. Except to visit.

I would love to go back and hang around for a couple of days. I made a lot of friends in Ocala. Times are different, it isn't the same place that it was back in the 90's.. I think you sharing this video helped me see that there is a chance for a good city. When I lived there, I couldn't wait to get out of that craphole, that's how I felt about it. There was also a restaurant called the Plantation Pancake House I worked in During the summer, Our family would often go out to the Flea Market at the Drive in Theater. The 4th of July was always amazing, as the Parade would go down Silver Springs Blvd and end near Tuskawilla Park.we were always in the Parade. Amazing memories. The house I lived in is still the exact same color, wood and the exact same round curved Front entry door. I went to Wyomina Park Elementry school, Osceola Middle School, and Ocala Forest High School

I was a child in the mid 1950s when I first came to Ocala/Silver Springs because it was the big draw. I don't remember it being more than a small town then, but I have fond memories of Silver Springs. Then again, Orlando was a sleepy and beautiful city of lakes, parks, and beautiful homes. I think Ocala has also benefitted from the horse industry there. It goes from Ocala to Gainesville with the beautiful fences and horses. Your don't see that on the interstate highway. Outside of Silver Springs was souvenir shop where my mother bought a shell ashtray that still exist. The world has changed, and so has Ocala.

Well I don't know what people mean by boring .i live in cities all my life its so stressful noisy and very expensive.i would love to retire a quiet place like ocala.you could be boring anywhere if your mind is not peaceful.living well doesn't mean you are very rich but living without doubt and comfortable in your spirit.i hate living in overcrowded cities like new York miami la chicago its like you living in a jungle .when you wake up on the morning time in cities you open your door and window you never feel you breath the pure air you breath the engine of the cars you turn your TV on its always something bad when you listen the news.anyway good luck to everyone.peace and be smart.

I currently live in miami. 33 years old. I’m used to the everyday hustle running around every day. But now I’m really wanting to move out to Ocala area for more of a chill lifestyle. How’s it living in Ocala. I have Atv’s. Are there a lot of places to go riding legally?

I grew up in Ocala. I left after high school in '89. I returned for a year in 2015. Lots of changes going on. I have not seen the square since my last meal at Harry's before my departure in 2016. I've heard the Hilton went in down there? Nothing beats the Square than at Christmas time. The Christmas Parade was my favorite community event. Six Gun Territory was much more fun when not a shopping plaza 😉
Take care fellow Ocalans. Thanks for the ride around town

I’m so sick of cities. I live in Miami right now but eventually hope to move to Ocala. I’m a pilot and just want to live somewhere in Florida where the pace is slower, I have more space, people are nice, it’s safe, and there are decent schools for eventually having a family.

Looking for a place to live when I retire in 5 years. I currently live in the Bronx, NYC, and this city is a cesspool of crime and apathy.
I am somewhat concerned about the humidity and questionable quality of life in Florida, as I have heard some bad things from people who have moved to Florida and ended up returning.
I don't think anything can be worse than New York City, but who knows?
