Davids audio gets better after 7 minutes! Don’t know why the echo initially - sorry about that and hope it won’t keep you from tuning in to a powerful story!
Irritating echo
His audio may have been feeding back through your mic if you weren’t using earphones. Great interview though!
I’m sure this was it, will keep in mind if it happens again
Oh, Those black cloud days are unbearable and it feels like a never ending battle.
Much thanks coming from someone who suffered from akastisia from benzos. It's horrifying. Ty
As a DJ im a night owl and i have to make peace with the fact that i will never have a regular sleep schedule. My colleague friends sleep a different hours everyday and they dont seem to have an issue with it and/or don't even care, so why should i?? The more i make peace with the fact that as a dj there's no such thing as sleep hygiene and a regular sleep schedule, the more peacefully i sleep.
Great point, it’s not about schedules or routines, it’s about not struggling

I worked at the nursing home from 11. :00 at night till 7:00 in the morning for years so I think I'm just totally messed up in my sleep patterns. I can not sleep more than 4 hours at a time and if I do that it's like a miracle but I'll go back to sleep for a maybe 2 hours. You know a little later on so it's not that I'm not getting sleep. It's just that I can't get it all at once and I just deal with it. Of course being 80 this year doesn't help. Lol!
Accept and Surrender. Those are the two most important words to embrace from this video.
These drs know exactly what is going on they just keep prescribing upping dosage or downplay the issues. Just a panic attack here’s another mg that’ll help till you need another mg and they know it, they want to avoid responsibility. How can a Dr of psychiatry not know this? If they don’t they shouldn’t be practicing
Hi Randy,
It’s very very problematic imho where the system is at right now… hope for change…. Let’s do what we can to educate and find a new way
Some know , most don’t cause they’ve never taken the medication . Besides they’re just humans who were taught very un- in depth about how the medication works why would they accept responsibility and throw away their careers
Thank you so much for having me on, Daniel! It was a pleasure.
Loved your story! I have a history of benzo use and this story hit home. Do you offer coaching? At times, I still feel traumatized by it.
Hi June! He does, I left a link in he description
Weed has made benzo recovery possible for me and much easier the two weeks of hell withdrawal is a lot easier also
Glad you found a way to make things easier 🙂
A good video. I’m learning a lot from this. I have been watching David Powers on utube for many months and always listen to what he has to say. I am dealing with my insomnia in the way you explain on his channel.. Look forwards to seeing what you are planning to do together in the future. 😊
Thanks Julie! Glad you’re here and, yes we have a really special project planned. Stay tuned 🙂
Why did he use mic? The sound is all a mess of echoes
I could be wrong, but I don't think the mic had anything to do with that. It's a popular USB mic used in zoom podcasts like this. But yes, it's very distracting!
Hi Elion,
How odd - I just noticed it now. But it goes away after about 7 minutes
What a well spoken man. So interesting. Thanks
So glad you found value here and yes, such a great educator/story teller David is!
thank you both! wow. so many new ways to look at my situation that are all enlightening.
Anytime Jennifer, so glad there was some new perspective here 🙂
I take xanax 3 times a day and I cannot live my life without it. I am always in a constant state of fight or flight mode, never able to relax, I am so exhausted. The xanax barely helps. I have constant anxiety that is so intense, I can still have a panic attack after I've taken the xanax. I dont understand. I am not depressed. I want to work, but cannot. I want to live my life but cannot. My entire body shakes, tremors in my face head neck hands. I want to die. My little girl needs me.
Hang in there Jules, what can be so confusing is that we’ve become scared of being scared. The source of anxiety is fear of anxiety, which creates a loop. There’s a really nice podcast, the anxious truth, but we say the same here too. Let us know how things go. Rooting for you
Sounds like you are in tolerance of the benzo. This happened to me, anxiety thru the roof pills no longer worked
Had to taper
@@thesleepcoachschool8192 Thank you. I hope you're doing well

I couldn’t listen the audio was so bad
Sorry to hear that! We'll definitely look into improving the audio quality for future videos. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
Jesus Christ the echo on the audio is horrid , it’s hard for me to listen
So sorry about this, it gets better 7 minutes in
Hey Daniel! It's 2am while I type this. I probably dozed off for an hour before waking up! A thought just popped in my mind while I was chilling in my bed. I was sleeping for a couple hours or so in the afternoon today. Why is it that I get sleepy and it's so easy to do that in the noon as opposed to the night?
By the way it seems like I am much less anxious about sleep anyway these days. I am gonna go to the gym no matter what happens today. Don't care lol.
So glad you’re living your life the way you want to 🙂
And you know, it’s often so much easier to sleep when we aren’t “supposed” to sleep or where (couch/extra bed etc) we aren’t “supposed” to be sleeping
@@thesleepcoachschool8192 it is weird... I get that drowsy/dozy during the afternoon... Barely ever I have been like that during the night. Even before my problems started. The only time that was ever the case in my life was when I was a kid but sleep was always pretty Restricted due to school and stuff. We barely ever noticed it and the body does indeed manage to grow and mature despite all thai!
What about magnolia bark for insomnia after benzo/antidepressant withdrawal?
The echo not good
drs givin those benzos like tik taks!
This is a great resource. Thank you to both.of you. Loo king forward to more. U encourage me. 😊
Hey Daniel, what kind of medical professional would you recommend for getting help with tapering off sleeping pills? I’ve been on ambien nightly for about 7 years and would like to get back to natural sleep while minimizing the withdrawal symptoms. The prescribing sleep doctor doesn’t seem to interested in helping, wondering what your thoughts are. Very little information online
Hi Bob, I summarize my thoughts in a video with Nick, he wanted off Trazodone, check the Talking insomnia playlist.
Now what professional would help here? My thinking is a psychiatrist probably has most experience
@@winniecockapoo5649 I am com8ng off ambien, trust me it was tge worst WD then when I got off valium BY FAR, ooooo it's as bad as a benzo
@@garysimone4977Are youbsleeping better now?

Been coming off ambient for the last 2 weeks been on for 10 years been terrible had to take off work.Terrible migraines panic attacks sleep deprivation.
Thank you for the hope
Hi, new to the channel. would love to know does melotonin actually work, been on high doses of valium for 4 years like david and trying to taper but it is hard, would love any feedback or anything you know that does help you sleep, love from the uk!!
Hi Paul!
Welcome to the channel, glad you found it. Basically what we teach is that when we do something in an attempt to try to make sleep happen, like taking melatonin, it becomes a sleep effort. Because sleep is a passive process, anything with you to try to force sleep with some struggles sleeping for us. On the other hand, when we’re not doing anything to try to force sleep, it happens by itself.
It wont work during withdrawal period
@@buangbenzo That's not entirely true. It is true that chemical withdrawal indeed can play a significant role, specifically in disrupting our sleep, but what Daniel highlights in his work is still the other half of the equation. I'd caution you with this attitude towards sleep, as it creates a victim mentality and a sense of hopelessness that the amygdala-based response part of the insomnia will feed on. I've worked with thousands of people at this point coming off of Benzos, and probably about half of them still sleep, albeit not always great. For most people, the tougher sleep struggles come within the first week of a taper, especially if it's a big drop in dose or you've been cold turkey off the meds. Benzo withdrawal absolutely creates and exacerbates sleep issues, but it's also a two-part process: chemical vs amygdala (hyperarousal).
the echo is awful.......
Sorry about this Starlite, it gets better 7 minutes in
The Ecco is giving me anxiety
Sorry to hear that! We'll definitely look into improving the audio quality for future videos. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
what is 20 mg of valium = to in Klonopin. Clonazepam ?
.?
20mg. of Valium is a HUGE dose.
20mg of diazepam is equivalent to 1mg of Klonopin. Clonazepam is extremely potent.
I am on 1,5mg of Ativan, lorazepam, that would be equivalent to 15mg of Valium.
@@guitarman11000 I wouldn,t say it is a huge dose, i got up to 55mgs a day and i,m trying to to taper, i know people on 80mgs, trust me if i can get back down to 20 mgs i,l dance for joy
Nah 80mg is huge
Yes please do the series.
Thanks for the support and watching all the way 😊 it’s in the works!
Yes I can completely relate to a series on the issue, am a raging insomniac myself and can really relate to this whole video. Makes me feel less alone with the issue. I need to watch more videos on the whole concept of making peace with it and not struggling to sleep. It's a nightly battle at the moment.
Hi Chibby, we will in all likelihood do this next year. And in the meantime, yes check the success stories playlist here 👍
Hey Daniel, thanks for your work. Watching your video made me understand what sleep is. I still have speed bumbs once and twice week but i can sleep well in other nights. After insomnia i think it had made me more discipline.
Anytime Rajan, so glad you’ve found value here and yes, this journey can teach us so much
How did this guy support himself if he could not work?
I moved home to live with family for a few years. I also designed some simple websites around that time, which paid very well and allowed me to work at my own pace.
Dear Daniel am alive after battling insomnia 0 sleep day and night for 3years am grateful to your videos and Sasha Stephens
So proud of you keep up the good work. How does one surrender when on verge or in psychosis? I have so much guilt bc I knew Xanax was addictive and had taken it for 2-4weeks at a time and got off. Would be a rough couple days and I would bounce back. Diagnosed w life threatening sleep apnea and began daily dose 2mg to get used to CPAP mask. Then I could not get off of it and went thru 4 surgeries since which kept me on. Marijuana is the only thing that helps me sleep and it bothers me I resort to it. Idk what to do feels like I’m stuck
Hi Randy,
Maybe this question was more for David , but I would say that when we feel stuck, is very often, because we are criticizing ourselves. We are hard on ourselves, and so often it is self love and self acceptance that leads us to where we want to be. Hang in there Randy
Try Melatonin for sleep it's natural and cheap , Good luck .
Oh God, Xanax and Seroquel? And 20 mg. of valium? Whoa!
Stopped watching this because of the piss poor audio
Why is my brain consistently telling me that I won’t ever recover? I’ve had no sleep issues at all. Recreational drugs I’ve taken a couple of times but that too didn’t cause any sleep issues. It was only until I got extreme anxiety that my sleep got ruined. Is there any way that my brain is damaged because of recreational drugsg
It could yes
You are not brain damaged, you will heal. I too feel so damaged from prescribed drugs but have heard from many that it does get better. Just keep the drugs out 😊
@Waves353 . Here's my story. Went to therapy and couldn't sleep. Was prescribed Klonopin but then switched to Valium then switched to Ativan. Took Ativan for 2 weeks and then cold turkey edges. All hell broke loose, went to hospital 6 times after not sleeping for 6 days. They couldn't help. Went to psychiatrist and was told I was benzo withdrawal. Last Saturday they gave me an Ativan and I slept for 3 nights, no more Ativan but the 4th night I went back to insomnia and all the symptoms. Last night they put me back on 1mg I'm to take for 2 weeks before tapering begins. Will I be safe? I'm scared
@reginaharding9855 Regina, thanks for the courage to share and, it can help to know many many who now no longer struggle with sleep would recognize what you went through. Hang in there, learning and doing some inner work truly helps
It’s too bad that there’s such a horrible echo in this video.
HOW CAN WE SUE BIG PHARMA! My whole LIFE HAS BEEN RUINED
You can’t , they were sued already if you didn’t know that like me and weren’t aware of just how bad it gets if you take this drug for too long , you gotta take it for what it is and do your best to live , there’s examples of people who managed to find recovery .

Is there no one on the channel that had other pre existing conditions like persistent concussion symptoms and or CPTSD ?
I’d be surprised if there weren’t, but not everyone shares all the details… oh and really, regardless of circumstances, we may have sleep disruption but everyone can leave sleep struggles 🙂
Yes, I have CPTSD and currently weaning off 20 years of Alprazolam. Taking the very slow path of reducing the dose in .25mg at a time. I see my psychiatrist weekly and he’s very supportive in helping me get off this medication. I started meditating and tbh, I will likely always have to find non-medication ways to cope with my anxiety and trauma. Talk therapy, group therapy online, talking with friends helps a lot. I find that going out dancing helps the most to reduce my anxiety, as well as helping me be more tired at bedtime. Still dealing with insomnia and the effects of CPTSD. Praying for you and best of luck on your journey. 🙏🏽🫶🏽

Yes sorry about this, it gets better into the video
This is how i got started, back pain. Valium for 3 years. Quit, had withdrawals then went back to dr and tapered off easy. Then went on xanex over 10 years later when the same back pain happened so i knew what i was getting into. Just now I'm withdrawing using vallium and mirtaazapene. Unfortunately the mirtaazapene is knocking me out so I'm not excersising and the back pain is sneaking back in. I'm nearly through but i worry about a relapse in case that pain comes back. I know i have to do my stretches etc and get my walks in
And of course I'm getting ready for no sleep this time. I agree with the DJ guy, spend too much time fighting it. May as well just get things done while I have the energy but hoping I can learn from your channel
Ur lucky if u can taper off Valium bc that is almost impossible & the whole heart problems don’t stop ! It’s all horrible! We need to SUE BIG PHARMA
Taking time off to heal is a luxury for sure but hey is it just me or does light excersize help a bit over time with the healing process

Wow me and a friend both had the same Covid sleep issue, I’ve seen some progress but I still can’t sleep more than 5 hours straight, I know some fear and pressure is still there but I’m hopeful, we had the jerks too and used to sleep more broken but now straight but not as long as I would want but I’m functioning , my friend went 2 months sleeping good but got sick and it started again, but she is more ok with it
Hi JW,
Glad you found this video and then it resonated. It is so helpful to see that we are not alone and it’s also so helpful to see that others who have had the same experiences go on to have no trouble sleeping.
In 1970s there was a WHOLE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT about Valium ! But then the Medical world just changed name to Ativan
Valium is now referred to as diazepam.
@@deedeew4040 I meant they created a NEW BENZO to fool people & called it Ativan (lorazepam) then came Xanax , then came Klonopin!!!! They keep rebranding it & literally have people on 2 or more of them at a time!!!! Its all = BRAIN DAMAGE & is illegal to prescribe for longer that 3 weeks but its already too late by then!
@@deedeew4040Diazepam is the generic name for Valium. Always has been.
No one changed the name of Valium. Valium is still prescribed and has a much longer half life than Ativan.
Ativan is lorazepam. Completely different medication than Diazepam.
