Happy to hear you navigated the situation unscathed. I'm a firm believer in listening to that gut feeling and acting accordingly. I also like easy deals, I find most people who are "real buyers" give things a good look over but don't take forever to make a decision, so that's a huge red flag. I think I would have walked after 10 minutes, saying "dude take it or leave it". I also like to do deals in the daylight, in a public place with lots of people like in front of a grocery store, courthouse or police station lobby etc. Depending on the situation, I would usually resist going to some persons house or having some random I don't know come to mine. 98% of the people are awesome, but that 2% can really mess up your day. I've met so many cool people doing Craigslist deals, that's one of the grand benefits.

Once a guy in a oil-stained workshirt with a auto repair shop logo came down the street and asked me if he could use my phone. He said his car broke down on the highway, and he forgot his phone at work, and he needed to call his girlfriend to come pick him up. He *seemed* legit. I had been in auto repair and he looked like a repair dude. I handed him my phone, and he suddenly turned around and started running. However, I ran faster and got in front of him. He then meekly handed me my phone back, then he just walked off - looking for a slower victim probably.
Good for you man. I had some hip hop kid fall on me in a bus pretending to have a seizure, he then got up and tried getting off the bus. I noticed my phone was gone from my pocket, shouted 'you stole my phone', and drop kicked him out the bus onto the pavement. He had 3 other phones in his pocket, so I took all of them and gave them in to police later. He tried accusing me of assault, but the good folks on the bus told him to get lost, and we drove off. It's good to be bold.
Wow, over 40 minutes that was some serious patience I would have been gone in 15 at most dealing with a kid probably would have said where's your mom or dad LOL

I do have a visible Buck knife on my belt, so far that has worked as a deterrent, but I have a backup plan just in case. It’s a whole lot easier for the bad guys to walk in to Best Buy, and walk out with whatever they want anyway.

I had a similar experience a month ago, except it was a 6 foot 6 250lb grizzly in a stolen pickup truck trying to give me fake as heck notes in the dark.
All ways good to be reminded of this old scam. Happened to a guy I know who got buttered up by a tourist when showing him his gold ring. A family heirloom. Dude asked to try it on and the bone head let him. So the dude did a runner with it. The real crime is that when he told me about it he expected sympathy. Idiot! Recently heard about another dude who almost got his scooter robbed and then ended giving it away anyway. Idiot!

I think the ruse was; there was never no apartment or second person. Probably didn't even live there. Once you denied the scooter outside, it ruined his plan, and he didn't know how to con his way out of it. Also, I never let anyone use my phone ever. I got burned by that before, and the person called a number which they added to their contacts, and then endless phishing and also using my number to try to access two factor auth.... Also, you are allowing them to use your phone as a burner.
A lot of what you have to say is video-centric and I'm into stills, but every time you upload something I want to hear what you have to say. Great channel.

“Black” Friday. I got ripped off buying fake air pod pros on marketplace recently in a similar situation. The kid came out to meet me and I automatically thought “dammit”. But the packaging was perfect so I bought them anyways and realized they were fake once I got home.

Btw, if you ever have a buyer come by and try to knock down the price too much, just say “we’re done here”’and walk away.

I used to buy stuff from craigslist before it turned to garbage, but selling stuff is much more annoying and not worth it. For expensive things I would just trade to friends and family not let some stranger put you through the wringer.
Never travel to sell something. If you do, you give the buyer leverage because you put skin in the game. Always have them come to you, but don't give them your home or work address. Meet them at a public place near your house where there are surveillance cameras.

Sales can be weird. I wanted a Hasselblad V-series in 2005. So I find one with the usual 80/2.8 lens, call the number and this old guy answers. The first thing I say is, "I'd like to buy your 500C." He gets nervous, like maybe he's not asking enough, so he says he will have to check "something" and call back. In the meantime I find this 500C/M, same price, but a better model with a removable ground glass. So he calls me back and I told him I found another one. He starts accusing me of breaking our deal. I just asked him, "What was the very first thing I said to you?" He could've left me waiting for hours with his checking.

The first time I saw a scam camera for "free" on offerup where they say they "want to give their camera to someone who can't afford one so they can be creative, just give me your info" I thought it was real. I didn't want it, but I texted the "seller" how cool I thought it was that they were so altruistic and generous and that it was inspiring. In retrospect, I probably gave them a pretty good guilt trip, lol

Always ask for an ID, not a phone. I've bought/sold bikes before (motorbikes) and at least in my country you always try the bike first before paying, but obviously you give your ID and contact details beforehand. Yes, it can be a fake ID, but those are usually easy to spot. Also try to meet somewhere with cameras filming at the spot or nearby. In my case, I always meet up in underground parking, next to security. Glad you're okay though :)
