This 25% Black money tax + 50% in a 2% FD for 5 years is a good idea in principle. The percentages can be played around with. For example, Capital Gains from Real Estate transactions can be minimised by putting up to Rs. 50L in a 6% Infrastructure Bond for 3 years. Something similar could be used to finance the Infrastructure Building program. And his last statement is right. Incentivise or back off, and the people will thrive.

Chidambaram speaks good english but good english is not good economics. Also good oratory is also not good scholarship. He sold national interest by contracting the printing to same company to which our enemy has contracted. Interesting to observe that two great Economists discussing Micro and Macro Economics and lashing out on people like Raghu Ram Rajan, Arun Jeitly, P Chidambaram; and establishing that they are much below them, in terms of understanding economics in the Country. Nahi Bhai, It's just easier to horde money now. Earlier, you would need a 1000 Rs 1000 notes to have Rs 10,00,000. With the new Rs 2000 note, you need 500. Imagine how much easier it is to store, carry and bribe.
