No, it's just we are just now barely getting to the level of technology that makes this field useful.
It was very hard to make holograms before, since you need a pretty expensive setup. That laser table setup you see in the video is far beyond what most people can reasonably afford. Optics equipment is very expensive.
It's getting more and more approachable every year that passes.

Some of the most modern methods of microscopy nowadays, that break the diffraction limit, are based on holography. Not anywhere near dead imo
