    "but you are in the U.K. so 2 to 6 years" 🤣
    those trees will look great! I wouldn't be shocked if that root base will put out new shoots. would make for an interesting result.

    Never cut towards yourself, always cut towards your friends. Only a true Bonsai master can say that his balls are nice and damp, and not even flinch... Great video!! I learned a ton from this! One day I hope to take an air layer from our crab apple tree, grown from seed on it's own via bear poop deposited in our yard. It would be neat to try, even just once! Thanks to you and Jelle for all the information! That tear is because your air layer are done so well!! Brought a tear to your eye!

    Hi Xav I think the obvious air layer point is just below were the trunks split, not sure about two air layers at this stage maybe once the air layer takes you could do the second to create a small cascade then, good luck with whatever you decide I know you will show the results in the future. Very funny running through the possible injuries in doing the air layer.

    Since there are no leaves between the lower air layer and the roots, is there a chance that you could loose the main trunk/roots before the air layers take?

    • @XaviersBonsaiRetreat
      @XaviersBonsaiRetreat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not from my experience. But that is certainly an issue with Junipers where you need to have that branch.

    Great vid Xav wonderful to have Jelle as a guest, two of my most favoured bonsai content creators. Do you keep the air layer in full sun straight after layering?

    • @XaviersBonsaiRetreat
      @XaviersBonsaiRetreat  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks - you are far too generous about me! I generally put the tree in the semi-shade as a precaution. Especially if we suddenly get some hot weather. I want to avoid putting any extra stresses on the tree and also reduce the opportunity for the sphagnum to dry out.

    • @XaviersBonsaiRetreat

      Hi Karen, sorry i didnt realise how diffficult that was to see. The tourniquet goes at the top of the cut where you are looking for the new roots to form. I find it helps reduce the risk of the bridging taking place too.

      @@XaviersBonsaiRetreat The audio is fine until 13:56. After that there's some kind of subtle echo. It almost sounds like your audio is being recorded twice through, say, your phone mic and your laptop mic or something maybe - but idk if that's even possible. Somebody who understands digital audio better might be able to help you more. But don't worry, the first half of the video is just fine, so I suspect it's just a 'recording software settings' issue, not an equipment issue. No need to run out and buy a new mic just yet! God bless and thank you for the video :)
