My uncle who passed away introduced me to this game when I was very young, and I absolutely thank him and am greatful for it. This Main Theme OST brings back so many memories, a bittersweet feeling. Gives you a sense of feeling that you remember certain things but you also get goosebumps from how truly iconic it is. Amazing, need a remaster for anniversary or something, although I believe the remakes are amazing aswell. Wish he were here to see them, he passed right before Rise of the Tomb Raider launched.

One of the best remakes I have ever played. The puzzles, the locations, the atmosphere, the style. It updated the PS1 classic for a new generation while skill keeping every ounce of what made the original title so special in the first place.
In the original you just had to jump while keeping the action button pressed. I defeated it in the first try in the original, while in Anniversary I had to try a billion times.
Just a reminder that this game, made for the tenth anniversary of the first game is now nearly ten years old itself! Ugh...time. This was one of the last games I played on PS2 in early 2007. The Wii/360 versions didn't come out until later that year, which maybe impacted the sales. It could also be most people like action-orientated Tomb Raider given the latest reboot has had some great sales. I have played Rise of the Tomb Raider on 360 and even on that aging beast, it does look pretty good. Anniversary is still my favourite, just because I prefer that engine and gameplay (even though it can be a little awkward at times).

Only a 1:1-Remake! It would destroy the whole atmosphere if only one texture would look different or other level structure. TR2 is a masterpiece. A reamke would be intressting but IMO it'll be just a dissappointment at all.

tomb raider and resident evil came out in 1996 they were so good for that time because they introduced us to the 3D world (i know re used a pre-calculated 2D technique that looked like 3D) imagine the gaming industry today if these games didn't exist ...

You can't compare them, think of WHEN the original was made, it was a breakthrough in gaming history, a milestone never achieved again. It's like comparing older and newer Star Wars movies..anyone can do a good movie with green screen and CG (and a ready plot). Unbeaten original was remastered well, that's it. I wouldn't have expected anything less.

Since this was a remake of the first one, I hope there will be remakes of TR 2,3 and IV in the nearest future. Hearing this soundtrack is just amazing, really makes you nostalgic from the good old days of psone. I hope they make tomb raider games like the old ones, adventures, animals and creatures, old myths and tombs, and not about shooting some bad buys all the time. I like both the updated theme and the original one, just like the games. For me, nothing can replace the original Tomb Raider games, but I enjoy playing the new Crystal Dynamics games, too. There were elements from Anniversary that I wasn't too crazy about, but overall, it was a fun game to play.
I think you're also right. Remakes sometimes disturb the original games in some cases. To remake a game does not only mean to improve the graphics, it's also a bit changing the game itself. But for example in TR:A places like Lost Valley that were typical for TR1 are made wonderfully, and I feel like I'd play the older variation of it when I'm killing the T-Rex. We're all a bit different when it's comes to classical games like Tomb Raider c:
