Yes those late 80s early 90s GM V6 cars had some balls. When my kid first got his DL in 2002 I got him a mint condition white with black stripe 92 Chevy Cavalier Z24 coupe with the 3.1 liter and 5 speed for $250 dollars because the guy couldn't get her to stay running. Turned out to be a 10 dollar junk yard part, the crank trigger had gone bad. I'm a V8 SBC/BBC guy and the little V6 was a challenge to get it figured out, I finally posted an ad on Kijiji and an old man replied, told me exactly where to find the part on the engine and where to get a replacement. That little Chevy turned out to be quick in town, fast on the highway and cheap on gas and pretty darn tough, he hit the ditch doing 90 mph, flipped it and broke the rear drivers side shock out of the tower, she sadly was a write off but still ran and could move around the yard though.
My Favorite Cars Ever had the 3.8/3800 Buick Lesabre 1989-2000 Oldsmobile 1989-1996 Every one I had from those years really made me Love it even more. Especially the ones like this where you have so much room to do repairs. People laugh at me when I say if I won the Lottery I would find a 1990 Buick LeSabre standard/Elektra and Have it fully Restored with Complete overhall of the Engine and Transmission. Second car would be a 1979 Caddilac Fleetwood Brougham and Third 1985 Chevy Caprice Classic. Also if I could get a 1976 Chevy Caprice Classic, 1964 Chevy Impala, 1957 Plymouth Fury (Christine) 1950 Chrysler C 300, 1966 Dodge Charger, 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, 1951-1957 Chevy Bel Air, 1950 Ford Coupe, 1955 Buick Special and I'll stop there lol
I know this is an old video but i have a 1990 olds with the exact same engine. It has been loosing balls when i hit the gas and I noticed my EGR wires were starting to melt.
I have a 03 Buick money pit I mean regal for daily driver, longest 132,000+ miles ever, I put on ,,40k of them, when it runs runs really good. The converter over time has rattled now plugged, struggles to make hills or up to any speed. It melted, crawled underneath to spray the nots before install saw heat rolling off it, like hot asphalt paving. It was running so poorly checked the EGR it melted the wires disconnected the wired runs better, My MPG is horrible
2006 Buick Lacrosse, around 99,000 miles, engine light flashing, when I put the car in gear, its starts shaking and there is an burning odor along with moisture from the tail pipe. Mechanic changed ignition coal, and clean throttle body out. Didnt fix it, still doing exact same thing. Now he is looking at a sensor and the catalytic converter. Any other ideas? I feel he is just replacing parts and its costing me too much.
This video was 8 years ago about EGR in the old Buick. I have a question about that coil pack. 1 5 3 on the coil pack is lined up to cylinders 2 4 6 why is that?
I have a 1989 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham. It’s turns over but doesn’t want to start. I replaced the starter, battery, fuel filter, fuel injectors pigtail, spark plugs, spark plug wires, ignition coil pack, all relays in fuse box under glove department, cracked lines and still nothing !Any suggestions??? It’s the 3.8L v6
I have a 91 lesabre it idles fine but when it gets up to temp it runs rough spits sputters and backfires and then just stalls out and won’t start back up until the motor cools down and it was my grandmas car who recently passed and I really want to see it running again
do you need to reprogram the ecm? or is the delete just plug and play? have a 04 park avenue. have some weird issues here and there. I'm wondering if deleting the egr would do the trick.
Thanks for the info. I have a 90 buick 3800 and runs ok but wondered if i change the cam position sensor or crank position sensor would it help much or just drive it as it is. The idle is ok but i have seen better. Don't want to put a lot of money in it.
I have a 90 like this one. It runs good at cruise speed, but idling in park or in gear, it is rough. I cleaned the TB and MAF sensor, no improvement. I also notice the lights pulsate (but do not flicker) when the motor is running. Could these issues be related? Any help? Thanks.
Did you ever figure out what the problem was.? My 90 lesabre is doing the same thing, also the temp light with light up on dash and it ends up shutting off after running for a few minutes. But engine isn’t hot, but cooling fan stops working. I’ve replaced pretty much every sensor, new starter, vehicle speed sensor was replaced but speedometer still doesn’t work. I’m pretty much troubleshooting at this point.
@@allyleake7271 Yes, on the pulsating lights, no on the idle quality. Turns out they were not related. The light issue was due to a bad voltage regulator, which is internal to the alternator. I replaced the alternator and the issue went away. It was quicker and cheaper to replace the whole unit than to rebuild or replace just the voltage regulator.
I have same car- 1990 Buick LeSabre Custom. How can I test egr valve with multimeter to know it works? Car runs good when first start up for a few minutes then after running a few miles I get rough idles, engine surging, back firing through intake and then car starts stalling and dying
Did you ever figure out what the problem was.? My 1990 lesabre custom is doing the exact same thing. I’ve replaced almost all the sensors. I’m pretty much troubleshooting at this point.
@@allyleake7271 it had a few issues but one causing most of the issue was a wire on the fire. It was burned off. That wire connected to like a junction box of a bunch of red wires on firewall. That fixed it up but still kept dying sometime when I stopped but would start right back up and be fine.
I have a 1992 olds 98 regency. The engine starts but then stops in 2-3 seconds. There are no engine codes. Fuel pressure seems ok, altough didn't measure it with a gauge. I had problems with wires shorting out near the engine due to old and degraded insulation, so I suspect its an electrical issue. Any tips on how to start troubleshooting? Thank you
i have a 2000 buick lesabre 3800 runs fine but after set at red light and take off it has a hesitation to it half throttle feels like no power ive did new plugs wires new mas air sensor new throttle position sensor new iac sensor new fuel filter and fuel pump
been driving a 88 park avenue for 22 years just lately it does not like to idle, seems to have plenty of power though, go figure guess I need a mechanic !
Yo what up friend, I say friend because I’ve got a 90 myself and I’m gonna get this puppy right. And I’m gonna use you as my go to guy for everything about this car!!! Can you do that? I’m basically asking for you to make any and all detailed videos of this engine and what I can do and modify and can’t modify or improve. I’d like you to make videos describing anything you can share about this car please, I’ve already sub to u. And I’ll be dedicated to your channel if you can help me out

Good tip. No problems with mine yet but my 90' Bonneville hit 300K the other day. These are one of the best engines ever made.

What's your fuel pressure with key on engine off and then while cranking?
Is it possible to clean a cat on a 2001 Buick park ave thru the oxygen sensor hole ?

Thanks for the info. I have a 90 buick 3800 and runs ok but wondered if i change the cam position sensor or crank position sensor would it help much or just drive it as it is. The idle is ok but i have seen better. Don't want to put a lot of money in it.
Tom Gregory old comment but what did you do and did it work?
How about the vacuum lines
I have a 90 Buick with the 3800 and am replacing the ignition coil and plugs- it misses at 60 mph.
Tom Gregory did you find the solution?

Will the tail pipe whistle if the cat is clogged?
Yes! It can whistle or making any kind of weird hissing sounds.
