Wow, this is such a versatile and well-made VST! I'm amazed at the extent of articulations that were recorded that capture the full nature of each recorder. Not only that, but the beauty of the UI also compliments the grandeur of this VST. Everything looks nicely organized and it's clear that there was much thought and effort that went into that! I have Embertone's Recorders VST, but The Recorder is definitely on a whole different level of craftsmanship! I recently purchased Soniccouture's Nyckelharpas VST and wish that they had sampled it as thoroughly as The Recorder. I'm still waiting for this level of excellence for the bagpipes, hurdy gurdy, and tagelharpa as well.
Do I hear breathing at the end of the legato? I absolutely love that detail! You’ve done an incredible job with this library. If you could create a full woodwind library with this level of quality, that’s exactly what I need. The craftsmanship here is outstanding-I clearly underestimated you all. 😊
A delightful library (not only) for recorder fans, thank you! 👍 A humorous aside: To clean our ears, all we need now is the 'Garklein' (sopranissimo recorder). And 'Big Babe' by Adriana Breukink would be perfect for a sonorous night's sleep... 😇
Emily and I veto'd the garklein. Listening to two sopraninos playing every single note and interval for 4 hours is enough high recorder for a lifetime. :) Of course, a clever user can always simply use the Pitch knob in Kontakt to pitch the 'nino up or contra down as far as desired for "close enough"
Omg finally great sampled recorders in a nice space! thank youu. The legatos are a bit too bumpy, almost "stepped" at times, I wonder if this could be addressed in an update. Other than that I love everything I hear
Thanks! The legato behavior can be customized via the settings in the bottom left corner, trading off delay with the amount of transition sound. A longer transition will give a smoother transition sound. It was only possible to record one style of legato, as recording two legato styles would have required over 4 hours of recording per instrument instead of 2 hours, so we chose the most idiomatic and traditional transition behavior, which is fast enough to both play both trills and slow adagios very nicely. Plus a long 'portamento'/'slur' style legato as commonly heard in modern orchestral string libraries is not really used or practical on the recorder, due to the complex cross-fingerings and breaks which make it difficult to play longer slurs consistently across the entire chromatic range.
@@VersilianStudios I agree about multiple legatos, I haven't tried a single library where all the legato styles connect properly and sound like a single performance, I prefer just 1 very good legato that's recorded and scripted to work in most cases. It's good to know that you can get the full transition in the settings! Thanks for your detailed response
Lots of portamenti are possible and work well on the recorder, but how they work and what level of technique is required varies a lot between different note combinations, and sometimes even between different instruments that are more or less the same type. And there are also additional complications like alternate fingerings that will work in some cases and not in others, etc. So there are limits to what is practical to sample.
Sounds great. Is it possible to control staccato note dynamics with modwheel/cc1 instead of velocity? And does the pitch-bend wheel work with this library?
Glad you like it! It is not possible out of the box to use modwheel to control staccatos. You can still use Expression to control the volume though, which you could remap to modwheel if you detach Dynamics, so you can get the same behavior as the Dynamics control. The staccatos, like the sustains, do not have actual dynamics (in the orchestral sense of "changing tone color with intensity during individual notes"), simply an accented and unaccented layer ("T" tonguing vs. "N" tonguing), both tied to velocity. We felt this was the only natural way to control the start of the note shape. Because both types of patches have the same behavior, they feel much more familiar to play when switching between. This also better respects the way we recorder players approach dynamics/intensity in music in real use. It's not the same way an oboe or concert flute necessarily would, and that's okay. We have pitch bend set up for a +/- 2 semitones (wholestep), so you can replicate shading, but if you want to do things like taps/cuts, you'll get much more realistic results using the true legato system.
A viable alternative to annoying the rest of the family and the neighbours with the piercing tones of a recorder. Though, tbh, most synths can attempt a fair approximation.
That demo is really good. Gives a clear idea of options that are available. Great product. Congratulations!

Thanks so much! Yes, we left some breaths in there. It only plays on releases at the end of legato phrases.

Those overblown sounds are so good. Love the legato too.
Thanks Reuben! We were on the fence about including them since they added 20 dB to the headroom of all recordings, but they sure are fun!
Amazing! Fantastic!

Congratulations for this incredible library !!
Thank you Quetzal, and thank you for your wonderful demo!
Wonderful and traditional sound - really useful

How much your family likes your recorder habit is directly proportional to the length of the recorders played. :)
Trumpets have a more piercing tone and are welcomed so lets give the recorder a chance. Sound great in folk style music.
I can practice the great bass at all hours and no one complains ;)
