Thank you for the this video, helped me fix the same issue on a 2011 Forester. I did find the cable is not snapped into the control but has a slide lock. The end of the cable has notches and the trick is pinching the two teeth on the mount to release the cable and pull it back. The broken cable was hard to remove but inserting the new cable was pretty fast. Make sure to have the wire already in place before doing this.

Does this process work on the driver side because the knob that controls the location on mine bineded up then broke
It looked like a similar assembly, but I'm not completely sure it's the exact same process.
