- Guitar of the Day! Taking a quick look at the beginning of a new Gibson Ambassador signature series, this time for Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin. His 1969 EDS-1275 is the definition of iconic, and was always going to be the first Collector's Edition reissue.
Understandably, a lot of people think that Jimmy Page's needs birthed the double-neck guitar, but it had actually been launched in 1963... it just hadn't sold very well and had been discontinued in 1968 lol. Gibson had one custom-built for Page just for Stairway to Heaven and obviously then everyone wanted one again. The more you know!

TIL that (understandably) a lot of people think that Jimmy Page's needs birthed the double-neck guitar BUT it had actually been launched in 1963... it just hadn't sold very well and had been discontinued in 1968 lol. AGU!!
No one cares about these, HOWEVER, we do care about YOUR single cut baritone sig!!
When is it finally dropping, Q4 a year later? 😂
I am waiting for them to arrive, the money is burning a hole in the pocket!!!
I litterally have never heard anybody ask if jimmyy was the first. EVER. He is the only one that's associated with it ironically, with a close second of don Felder though.
There are pictures of earliesh Elvis Presley with a double neck SG.

Harley Benton does a double neck for around $500. It plays almost similar too and you save $45,000
49,500
and westcreek does one for 300, which doesn't come perfect but with the right tweaks, it plays great
Danelectro just came out with a double neck for under 1k too. I’ve been thinking about buying one
any page signature on it?
@@leokrissandy5579no, but if the signature of some washed up rock star is really worth 50k then go ahead and waste your money.
It's gonna make some dentists very happy until their backs crumble under the weight
Dentists?
@@kbraker510 it is a very famous stereotype that the people who spend the most on guitars and gear are rich old dentists
@@kbraker510Dentists, doctors, lawyers. The kind of people that waste 10k+ on custom guitars, because the avarage musician obviously cant afford that.

Just imagine the neck dive, considering it's 2 SGs and one of them is a 12 string...
Having owned an SG, and played many, that is the first thing I thought as well.
I've heard these actually balance, as opposed to a normal SG
Cannot speak to the accuracy of this
@@347Jimmydoes look like it balances out on straps, but even then common sense tells me the body weighs enough for both necks not to dive
That neck isn't going anywhere. That's a big slab of wood and some extra electronics.
Back in the 80’s, I was so in love with Led Zeppelin that I just HAD to have an EDS-1275. I got one for Christmas in 1987, a 1975 model. As a teen until my late 20’s, I played that beast regularly. It weighed close to 20lbs. It’s probably why I have neck issues at 50 now. But it was a stellar guitar. Not worth $50,000 by a long shot though, but we all know that.
A regular LP definitely contributed to my degenerative discs in my neck, and probably just looking down at my hands while playing.
I'd play it, but I'd rather buy a Chibson and make it somewhat playable than pay modern Gibson prices...
They are so cool. Like wayyyy cool. Obviously not for a whole set. But for a few songs, the cool factor goes through the roof. And I especially like the white one. Like Don Felders signature 🤤
dons is cooler. and rocker.
I always wanted one back in the 80's when I started playing. Then I finally got to pick one up, and immediately changed my mind. Bulky to play, and store in your house.
The answer is Yes. Some will want to play it and some will want to keep it as an investment, especially the ones Page signed. If I had the money I'd buy two, one for playing and one for an investment, regardless if the double-neck was signed or not. Thanks Jimmy for all the music recorded and all the live performances I saw you perform with The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, The A.R.M.S. tour, The Firm, Outrider tour, Page & Plant and the Black Crows tour. Again Thanks For Everything. 👍🙏
Let's see a double neck Les Paulie
Don Felder used one sometimes, i love lp, but you have to be a brave man to use a double one
Guaranteed degenerative disc disease 😂 my neck is screwed from a regular LP, a double-neck would weigh like 20 lbs.
They look weird
I have an Epiphone SG double neck in white. It's about 20 years old, l had a tech at Guitar Center set it up and it plays surprisingly well. On the 6 side l replaced the neck pickup with a chrome P90. The 12 sounds and plays great. I occasionally need to use an electric 12 and l've tried out some other 12s that don't cost a fortune (Dean Danelectro Squire) they don't sound nearly as good. Yes the thing weighs a ton but l can make it through a song standing. I seriously doubt anyone forking over $50k are not planning on it and though a big fan of JP l don't need his autograph.
John McLaughlin used one of those on several cuts, not just one. Check out early Mahavishnu concerts. It was his standard road guitar for a while.
I tried out a white Alex Lifeson double neck model when I the Gibson trailer stopped at a music store near my college. It was surprisingly lightweight for being two guitars in one. I’d compare it to a Les Paul on the heavier side of the spectrum. I’ve always wanted one, & it was sooo difficult to put that one back on the hanger after playing it
Imagine if they made MegaDave his double neck V.
That guitar wasn’t nearly as heavy as my old EDS-1275. And it was more ergonomic.
The slash double neck just came out a few years back. Frank hannon from Tesla still plays his white double neck on stage. He especially uses it for love song
Playing Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria would feel wrong without that guitar.
Really wish epiphone would bring this back, especially in white and/or black
It cost a million dollars
No. No real players want this. Just boomers with too much money who are going to spend 50k, playing it for 3 minutes, get scared, and hang it on a wall till they die.
There you go with the penis envy.
This guitar is meant for men, not little boys, you will never hear a boomer say "it's too heavy" if it wasn't for boomers, you probably wouldn't even know how to play😉
@@smb7647no, this guitar is meant for dust-ridden old geezers who just want to waste money and look cool. it's a novelty, always will be
@@radio7353 only to those not capable, stick to what yr good at, leave the rest to the men😉

larry lalonde played one live for primus during a few songs at rabbit rabbit recently
I’ve been waiting for them to reissue the EBS-1250 forever, coolest and most practical double neck ever made.
I've had one for almost 20 years.
I can count the number of times it's been out of the case after the second year on both hands with fingers left over.
I love it. But it's like wearing a coffee table around your neck.
There's a reason Nancy Wilson doesn't play one on stage any more.
Claudio Sanchez rocks it. Hell, he'll lift that beast over his head and rip solos behind his back.
I want it, but I wouldn't know what to do with it, but I want it.
Pete Townshend also used one on stage for a bit in the late sixties, there are photos but sadly no footage that I know of
I totally want one. Not for the guitar, but because Page "blessed" it. I'd be keeping that thing on a shrine.
One of my friends had the Epiphone one in the early '00s, and it was a heavy beast of a guitar.
I still want a doubleneck BC Rich Bich. Who cares how much it weighs when it looks that awesome.
That price makes me think of the Terry Kath tribute Tele that came out a couple years ago.
I'd love to have one if I had the money.
I do. Of course id settle for enough money to even buy one but ive always wanted a double neck
“Wha! It weighs too much!” Thanks, modern guitarist.
Theres a epophone SG double neck for sale in my neck of the woods, and i would LOVE to buy it..
Even more amazing was that Page weighed six stone when he wore this guitar live in the mid 70s
I've got a BC Rich double neck birch legacy, 40 pounds. But it is an 😊incredible instrument. I love it.
I can't tell if you're joking about the weight 😅 I remember picking up a clear acrylic BC Rich a few times and they were heavy as hell, I was also like 12 yrs old though.
The BackBreaker!
Many guitar players want these. You coverd why in this short. Jimmy page. Thats why people want this.
Epiphone needs to do a run of these.
I can't imagine it would be too different to the Slash doubleneck that they released a year or two ago, outside of the placement of the relic marks and the colour.
I'd much prefer if Gibson released that doubleneck that Robbie Robertson has in The Last Waltz, the one with the Mandolin on top and the six string on the bottom.
As they haven't made them since the 60's and late 70's, so they are actually sought after.
Having played one of the older epiphones, it’s one heavy piece of gear
I played that guitar in the Gibson Garage in Nashville, wasn't as heavy as I thought... Was scared to death while playing it though
after back trouble I had to sell all my double necks. I am now looking for a hollow double neck.
I own a Rickenbacker 330/12 and even I admit 12 strings are not really necessary any more when we have chorus effects pedals. The idea of having a double neck is really for a visual on stage. Or a 5 neck in Rick Nielsens case.
As a former Gibson employee, I don't know that they ever stopped making the 1275
Firefly Guitars has a double-neck Guitar/Bass in stock right now for $400 (not tryna start fights, just thought it's neat)
Adam jones sighting !!!
I would say that a lot of people would love to have a double necked guitar. The problem is is the price and makes it not worth getting. I’ve held a double neck guitar before, mind you, it was not a Gibson EDS 1275, but it was still incredibly heavy to hold. That is not a guitar that you’d want to be playing while standing for an entire concert.
I’m waiting for the Gibson Jimmy Page Danelectro at $300.
Why make something so outrageously expensive that only a serious collector would shell out for. I mean come on Gibson, something has got to give.
To build hype for the lower priced models (that are still overpriced) and the eventual Epiphone version that us peasants can afford.
The best part to me is that (HOPEFULLY) these will go to Epiphone.
I had one. Very heavy. I bought a 5 in wide strap with padding
Epiphone custom shop with the new headstock would be rad
Jimmy Page I also think of Rick Nelson the guy from cheap trick
The only guy I know in my area who has one of these double necks is a guy with an endorsement deal. Its not this Jimmy Page model, but even the regular double neck is expensive... and while he gets lots of use from both necks when he uses it, he himself says he could never play it for more than 1 or 2 songs at a time.
I mean it's a very rare scenario for a normal customer or guitarist that's not touring routinely thinking "i need a double-neck for something specific", let alone paying 50 grand for it.
most people who buy these artist signature stuff are superfans anyway.
Today on How They Do It : double neck guitars!
Everyone has a double neck guitar in their home. First they take the wood and they smooth it out. The scrap wood is then repurposed for later batches.
Then, a Jimmy Page shows up, and he rubs it and spits on it.
That leaves you with a regular old double neck guitar!
Don't forget to rub the schleem, before carving away the extra wood. Or was it schleem the rub?
Otto the bus driver wants one.
I want one
I want it, but I wouldn't know what to do with it
They are versatile and needed in todays musical climate
All sold
It is probably body heavy. If it is built to Jimmy Page specs, the necks will be thinner than normal.
I got a used Epiphone G1275 a while back. Fun conversation piece, nice decoration, 12 string neck even has a cool sound.
It's also utterly unusable. This thing weighs a ton! 🤣
Lita Ford plays a double neck.
Mike drop.
I would love a non-signature one if they weren’t so expensive and rare in my country, I bet you could do lots of creative stuff with it other than play Stairway👌 doesn’t look that heavy to me, it’s SG thin after all
Gotta be a big boy like Alex Lifeson to handle that weight.
I'm genuinely surprised they're only asking 50 grand for it.
Apparently these weigh in at about 12lbs, which is about right considering SG's are about 6lbs on average. But when Les Pauls can tip the scales around 10lbs or even close to 11lbs in rare instances, it almost doesn't seem so bad lol.
I absolutely want one. But my wants always exceed my bank account.
I want one…
Slash had one too recently
i wish they made a double neck where the other was bass
I want the Ibanez variation because Paul Gilbert played one
I wanted a double neck for a long time but the Gibson models at that time were between $8,000 and $14,000 so I bought the Epiphone for $999 and have no regrets. It sounds great, plays great. I think $2,500 is the most I could ever see spending on a guitar regardless of how many necks it has 😂
My shoulder gets sore just looking at it...
Don Felder of the Eagles used the white Gibson double-neck to play “Hotel California” during the last of the 1970s.
Trying to remember which movie Elvis played one in….Speedway?
Tried an Epiphone version of the double neck. It did weigh a ton...no thanks.
Just how do you change the strings with the tuners so close to each other???
Harley Benton do one. Might as well save close to $45,500 and get theirs and upgrade it
Although I’m sure someone will buy the Gibson
The Page Double neck is 2 guitars you don’t want (SG and 12 string SG) combined.
We want it we just aren’t going to use it much.
It's 22 pounds, or about 10 kg. Not terribly heavy since it's two SGs which are normally pretty light guitars. The weight distribution is such that you don't feel all that weight at once. Still not practical to play for a whole set though
at last, with this guitar i can play stairway for more than 2 notes.
james hetfield, dave mustaine, don felder. alex lifeson, steve vai (hell, he even uses 3 necks, the crazy guy)
Page is still alive? That's heavy
If you ever pick one up,you would change your mind.
Bass and 6 string is the only double neck i want. 12 strings are for betas
50k for a replica is so insane I just know a dentist somewhere is gonna cop
Now that he’s completed repackages of everything LZ ever did, “poor Jimmy” needs another source of cash.
You get one just to take a crack at a Xanadu rendition and pawn it shortly after.
A double neck in carbon fiber makes the most sense.
BC Rich still makes double necks, fo 2000
Got my 1987 cherry eds-1275 in 1999 for $1500. I'll bet the Page repro doesn't play $48,500 better.
I’ve held one, they’re deceiving. Because it’s based on an SG and so thin it actually isn’t that bad. Heavy but not too bad
I could have stolen one of the 18 replacement doublenecks he commissioned from Clark's Music (Healdsburg ca.) But I dint.
50k each? Is that all?😅
Ridiculous price for sure. Big PASS.
What's that beautiful minty les Paul behind you sir?!!
I do actually want one but I will never people able to afford it. No I will not settle for the Harley Benton model because their SGs look more like ESP ones
