Thanks for your in-depth analysis of this event. I've been to NSBE before(2019) and had a positive outcome but this year I am considering Afrotech. I keep hearing the job market is tough so I figured attending the expo might give me better chances with finding new employment. I agree with your point on having more technical demos would give more value to the price tag. Fellow cyber professional here as well!
I want to go to Afro Tech this year. I have been to National Black MBA Conference, which is a very direct conference for finding jobs. I'm wondering if Afrotech will be a nice alternative to that for job seeking/interacting with recruiters.
If you have no tech experience do you think it would be possible to land a job? Do you also think that some of the companies would also be willing to train you?
Anything is possible! I know a few people who broke into tech without much tech experience. I think it really comes down to skill set. Obviously if you want to be a developer or in a highly technical role, learning programming languages and other technical information takes time and those roles would be more competitive. However, there are a lot of tech roles that require a more generalist/less technical skill set so if you have transferable skills from another job/industry that carry over I definitely think it’s possible to get an entry level role. Some companies may offer on the job training while others may look for people already proficient in their area of focus. It really all comes down to the company and what their hiring needs and objectives are.
Really enjoyed hearing this. I'm heading to the conference this year and I'm looking for to it. This will be my first one
