- At a House hearing on October 23, Congresswoman Katie Porter questioned Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about user privacy, the people they pay to monitor content on their site, and the company's lobbying efforts.
Spoiler alert: he offered up excuses and a lot of answers.

She’s a former teacher, they know how to grill people even better than lawyers, and adhere to the same concept; never ask a question you don’t know they answer too.

@@kettle2293 Honestly, she says a lot more through her line of questioning than any speech other politicians give. As my English teachers have taught me while teaching us how to write poetry, the most effective writing is knowing how to say a lot with a few words. She's doing the same thing with her 5 minutes by asking pointed questions that reveal so much about the situation based on the terrible or lacking answers she receives. Gotta love her!

In an interview she reveals the reason why she's so effective with questions is that she doesn't ask a question she doesn't know the answer to. So, it's up to the person being questioned to respond truthfully, or waste her time with lies. If you're straightforward and honest with Congresswoman Porter, it'll go easier for you. If not, you might be in a viral video shortly after.

Keenan Thomas in the description it has the date of the hearing, you can use that to look up the hearing on C-SPAN. There it will have the title of the actual hearing, and usually at the beginning of hearings the chairman of the committee will outline the purpose of the hearing and what the committee overall is trying to establish. Certain committees are also responsible for scrutinizing the departments whose name they bear, in other words they hold the cabinet secretaries accountable and give the American people an opportunity to see how the administration (Of the day) is doing in various departments. And committees do sometimes have power, when they’re analyzing certain bills sometimes they can die in the committee process. Say you have a bill that is not cost effective, sometimes the bill can be killed in the house ways and means committee to give an example. Also when you testify before congressional committees, you take an oath that carries the same weight as testifying in a court of law. In other words you can be charged with perjury if you lied to Congress in your congressional testimony. You can also be subpoenaed if they need to talk to you and you’re deliberately avoiding them. To give an example say you’re at the CEO of a cellular company and you sold the meta-data of customers to foreign governments, and just like in court you You can be held in contempt. I feel I should mention you can assert your fifth amendment liberties Regarding the right to remain silent. As for representative Porter herself, and the purpose of her line of questioning you can read in the video description.

This woman is not only an amazing politician, but an incredible human. You can tell she really cares and I wish we had more people like her representing us.

The thing that's special about her, is that she's one of very few American politicians on this level who actually works FOR HER EMPLOYERS - the people. She's not working for her own benefit, hoping to get a cushy lobbying job after a stint in congress giving some company everything they want. She does what the is SUPPOSED to do - she works in the best interest of American voters. She stands out, because most of her peers (even in her own party) does not appear to be doing the same thing in my eyes.
Yet, everything will continue as before.

He's almost single-handedly responsible for the Doomsday Clock being pushed closer to midnight than ever before, including during the Cold War. Not only is he not doing anything about the looming reality of catastrophic climate change, he pulled the US out of the Paris Accord and publicly mocks a literal child for trying to do something about it. He's the most incompetent excuse we've ever had for a president (and that's saying a lot, there have been so many awful ones) and his approval rating has been below 50% for his entire presidency (you can fact-check that yourself). I'll laugh when his Me Too moment arrives and he finally goes to prison for being a rapist.

Katie Porter is one of the most stanch defenders of "regular" Americans, and all people. She is a tiger and is smart, sharp, and someone who stands by her ethics and the true values this country was built on! Attractive traits for anyone to have but requirements for real leader.

There are many jobs that require the employee to deal with difficult events... everyone in the medical field, forensic scientists, detectives, common police, NTSB workers, the military, etc. The only thing unethical is for the company to abandon that employee after they leave for mental health issues.

The fact still remains that you don't get paid in a job because of what you do. You get paid in proportion to how easy you are to replace. If they get paid lower wages then a police man its simply because they have people at the door willing to do the job for that amount. The difference between me and you is that I recognize the purpose of a business which is to survive while in competition with others that would like to eliminate them. I am with you completely in that I wish businesses would not check their humanity at the door when they go off to work and pay people as best they could but I am under no illusion that they have an obligation to do that.

Some of it is feigned. Their lawyers prepped them by telling to answer basically "I don't know." to everything for plausible deniability. Sometimes they really are just that ill-informed, but we'll never really know, because the CEO's are always just performing. It's an act. Zuckerberg just happens to be really bad at it.

I love how she asks simple yes/no questions, and almost without exception whoever she's questioning tries to respond with empty, meaningless word salad and denial of responsibility. Its absolutely delicious how these people display their true colors in front of a woman who is stronger and better spoken. Not saying Zuck is a misogynist, but its kind of mind blowing how most men can't handle talking to a woman who is at least their intellectual equal, if not superior.
I mean yeah that's great but in all honesty some of her questions are plain stupid
like asking the CEO of FB whether he'd want to be a content moderator and obligating him into answering with a yes or no.
Like let's be honest, that guy is a inventor/entrepreneur/nerd and he's overly qualified, what's the point of asking him that and what is he supposed to answer?

The way he responded seemed actually more genuine, as if watching 1h of that stuff was the best way for him to use his time, and he's probably using his time to do better things and i'm sure that within a few years, content moderation will be 100% automated.
and regarding wages, yes, content moderators are watching horrible stuff but what are they supposed to be paid, it's not like they're super qualified or educated, are they supposed to be paid 150,000$ a year because they watch gruesome content? Zuckerberg would have to be a terrible business man to pay them that much.
Honestly if you genuinely think that this woman is pertinent then you're pretty stupid. :/
All of her questions are idiotic and try to unfairly portray the person as a hypocrite. Like he could turn around and say "there is a lot of problems with politicians saying one thing and doing another. would you be willing to spend an hour a day doing a job that anyone could do to disprove that politicians are duplicitous? Oh gotcha!!!"

The question wasn't about how a person like Zuckerberg could best utilize his full potential. It's about understanding what he is asking people to do in the name of his company.
Can't say much about the wages - don't live in the US - but the provision of mental healthcare should be guaranteed for a job that is likely to mess you up if you are left to deal with the trauma on your own.

You definitely can quit after a day of even an hour of being a moderator so yeah it's not like people sign a misleading contract that makes them watch gore videos for like 4 years with no possiblity of quitting and
