We would only indicate if we are about to go into reverse and a car approaches. If we feel they need to know we are about to park then our reverse lights and an indicator would help them to either wait or go around us. Good question!
@@ChimpOnCars they were saying you can use the car handle touches the curb or gets close to the curb but then that would have to have a small mirror install is that correct??? or how to tell if you dont have the small mirror install over the wide angle regular car mirror???
In the video I show one full turn of the wheel ie 360 degrees. Full lock in my car is about one and a half turns. You can do full lock especially if using a tighter space than they use on test. I simply teach this to get you started then with experience you can adapt it using this as an easy starting point.
Had my daughter for lessons in her car and unfortunately she has been taught to use cameras in car that she was learning only and could not park using mirrors in her new car. The way you teaching is the way I was taught over 30 years ago 😂
How do you know when to start turning your wheels the other way in the 45 degree section ? How do you know when your car is 45 degrees and safe to turn and it will park without hitting the curb and isn't too far away from the curb ? What reference do you have to use ?
You don’t need to use a protractor to work out the angle 📐 a good guess is sufficient. The width you the cars, speed that you steer, speed of your car, etc are all variables. With this in mind there is no technique that will work 100% so just accept that this will get you mostly parked and with experience you can improve upon it.
You can use the light as a reference, I used to teach that. There are lots of ways to explain how we park and then with practice we just do it from experience.
Good question, it comes up a lot. It is a safety test so as long as you are safe then all good. Hitting a kerb hard or going up it would often be classed as unsafe and a fail. Touching kerbs with no pedestrians close would often be safe enough to pass.
@@catalyzt7162 failed unfortunately, got 2 majors and 6 minors it was just roundabouts if I got rid of the roundabout issues probably would’ve passed it first time big sad
Nice simple video thank you. I been taught 121 but I got too close to curb earlier while practicing and couldn't think how to sort it out so definitely found this video helpful ☺️
The way I do mine is slightly different, hence I never get the right position, I don’t do my one turn until my car is in alignment with the middle of other car door, might try this one.
As you get more experience and confidence you just park a car. There are many variables so no single routine will always work. Use this or any routine until you get so confident that you just park. Keep safe while you practice!
How do you deal with steering being different on cars? The car that I learn in requires less turns in manoeuvres - eg) half turn the wheel, whereas my own car I have to swing the whole wheel round when doing parallel. Thanks
Good question! All cars are different. We teach routines like this to get people pointing the car mostly in the right place. Once you have built some positive experiences in then you will become used to steering as much as you need. This will allow you to park different cars in different spaces without thinking about the turns on the wheel so much.
Great question. It’s in the video but basically you need roughly a 45 degree angle across the road with your car. There will always be variables like the size of the car you are parking behind and the distance away from it you start but roughly 45 degrees will be a good start. Remember that you don’t need to swing in and park perfectly as you can make adjustments.
Thank you! I keep ending up too far away from the kerb. I’ll try to remember not to steer so early next time. Do you get a minor fault if you have to correct the position? Got my 3rd driving test attempt tomorrow 🤣 Just making sure :)
@@ChimpOnCars Thank you, unfortunately I failed for the 3rd time! Can’t believe it 🤣 The test was going so well and then on the way back I changed lanes when I shouldn’t have and cut someone off. Really annoyed with myself! Didn’t get a parallel parking manoeuvre but maybe next time! Thanks again
Good question. Watch the video and you will see that with this basic method we steer 1 turn of the steering wheel then 2 turns the other way and finally 1 turn of the steering wheel to finish. This is just a way to overcome which way to steer and how much with new drivers.
I am really bad at judging how close I am to the car in front and the back. Especially the back. i find myself having to get out and get back in the car and do this a few times. I do not want to inconvenience anyone and be parked too close to someone.
That does take practice but I find that once I'm used to the car I can judge it better. A good way to help this is find a friend or relative who lives in a quiet road. Ask them if you can practice edging towards their car and then get out and have a look. Do this a few times and it gets easier. Or get your local independent garage to fit parking sensors. They are cheap and easy to fit so it shouldn't cost too much. If you are near North Kent then my friends garage in Lynsted does them.
Good point, this video is aimed at learners preparing for the UK test so between two cars would not be appropriate though. Maybe we will release a video looking at a real life situation for after the test. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video, it has helped me so much! Do I have to indicate when performing a parallel park in my real test? :)

Thank you for simplifying it, parking 121. There's so much advice out there about this, but yours is the easiest to remember. Thank you!
It works well to get you started, glad it helped
After watching quite a lot of similar videos, I found this one with the aerial view to be superb.
Thank you, it did turn out well.
You make it so easy sir, unfortunately I have a terrible eye for estimating distance, I hope I can get the rhythm right always
Good luck, find quiet areas and the practice will make a difference
My tail is always in the road I mean like not straight
Is it full lock to the left

Awesome, well done!

The old ways work forever and in any car. Practice this with her and she will be able to park anything. Good luck 🤞🏻
hello sir , would you get a minor if you forward a bit to adjust before reversing to finish? thank you
You would normally get a minor for that but it’s what most people do even years after passing the test from time to time.
@@ChimpOnCars thank you again sir, very helpful channel.

Thanks for showing what happens if we do it wrong. I’ve been taught to use the other car’s light as a reference instead of the 45-degree angle.
You can use the light as a reference, I used to teach that. There are lots of ways to explain how we park and then with practice we just do it from experience.
Has the driving test changed in the recent years? Unless I am misremembering, hitting/touching the kerb was a fail for the test? Is that not the case?
Good question, it comes up a lot. It is a safety test so as long as you are safe then all good. Hitting a kerb hard or going up it would often be classed as unsafe and a fail. Touching kerbs with no pedestrians close would often be safe enough to pass.
Thank you for that. Less reference points than other methods and the 45 degrees is important.
Excellent, keep it simple and practice plenty
I passed today thank you
Awesome, well done
Congrats
you make it look so easy ! haha i cant even. have to watch it again and again till i get this one right, ty
It becomes easier with practice. Continue to reverse park after you pass the test then you will make it look easy too.
@@ChimpOnCars thank you sir , i hope i pass too. 🤗
So your allowed to move forward and back to adjust and will recieve no faults?
You will receive a driver fault (minor fault) for control but still pass the test.
Thanks for the refresher 😊
Our pleasure!
Got my test In 2 weeks today exited yet nervous taking it in my own car also, wish me luck 🎉
Fantastic, good luck! Plenty of time to prepare still.

Fantastic, good to hear. Even experienced drivers need to shunt back or forwards from time to time. Good luck with your practice.
How do you know if the cars 45°?
No need to get out and check just roughly judge it

My driving instructor HATES dry steering, so this video isn’t helpful for me 😅
Dry steering is not good for the car so I agree
What if you hit the curb. Don’t you fail?
You will fail if you go up the kerb or hit it hard. Touching the kerb then taking a shunt forward will be fine.
Nice
Thanks

It’s a great way to learn the skill
I mean we need another car in the back to make the simulation more realistic and higher difficulty.
