It sounds familiar because it is a cover of a Jimi HENDRIX song Voo Doo Child. Before Stevie covered this song he went to Jimi Hendrix's father and asked for permission to do the song. That is respect and class.
If you Google images you can find a photo of Stevie, and DT I think with Jimi's Dad taken in Oakland where they visited with him. He looks like a very nice man and you are right, class and respect all the way.✌️💙
lol, reason it sounds familiar because *Jimi Hendrix* played the original song. Stevie Ray Vaughan played this as a cover version. And according to how good it sounds, I say Stevie Ray Vaughan did it justice 🤘
Stevie Ray Vaughan's brother Jimmy Vaughan was playing at a venue with his band The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Jimi Hendrix was playing there too, Jimmy Vaughan broke 2 of his Wah-Wah pedals so Jimi Hendrix gave oe of his Wah-Wah pedals and Jimmy gave it to his little brother Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie Ray always said his biggest influence was his big brother Jimmy Vaughan and ten all the great Blues players like Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Albert King who was actually Stevie Ray's godfather. We have been so blessed to still have his music and now the young generation is enjoying it too. I was born in 1960 so my music was the greatest of all time and there will never be anything like it again and if you really want your mind blown Life Without You will make you really see the magic Stevie Ray brought to.his fans and his true greatness comes out of him through his guitar.
LOVE TOUR STEVIE RAY REACTIONS! I was lucky enough to spend time with him over the last few years of his life, and I can tell you, he was humble as he was talented. Please check out “Mary Had a Little Lamb” from this same Austin 1989 show, and “Tin Pan Alley “featuring Johnny Copeland. You will continue to have your mind blown! Oh, You might have heard this song used by a wrestler for his theme song.
SRV was a great fan of Jimmi Hendrix, and VooDoo Chil was one of Jimmy's biggest hits. I imagine they are Jamming together in the great big concert in the sky!
One of his technics is to play multiple strings but mute some with his other hand so you only get out the note he is intending the rest create a crunch sound or almost a reverb sound of the 2 strings complimenting each other.
He’s the man. He was amazing when he was 14 years old. Then he practiced for hours and hours every day for the next 20 years. This is a Jimi Hendrix cover. He’s even using one of Hendrix’s wah-wah pedals here that his older brother Jimmie got for him when his band The Chessmen opened for The Jimi Hendrix Experience in Fort Worth. Stevie’s the only one who can really cover Hendrix properly. He honors the original, but makes it his own.
@Lathe Dauphinot: I, also have heard 3 different stories of how Stevie acquired Jimi's pedal. No matter how, it always made me wonder if Jimi's spirit was onstage with SRV during those covers.
@@claireburling8547 There were times when he was at his best that Stevie seemed to tap into some source, like a spring or river, and allow the music to flow through and from him, as strange as it sounds. He would sometimes be surprised at music that came out of himself, like someone else had temporarily taken over his hands or guitar. You can see it once in the “Little Wing” video from El Mocambo when there is a ridiculous 5-10 seconds of guitar shredding, after which he looks up at Tommy Shannon with shock and surprise on his face, like “Where the heck did that come from?” Like with a Ouija board or séance, maybe Hendrix or someone else was there for a bit. Who knows? There were times when he played that it seemed that more than just little Stevie was there. I’ve never experienced anything else like it.
@Lathe D. Glad I'm not the only one who feels that possibility. That Little Wing segment you spoke of, I know it well being that is my favorite of all time. I've always thought Stevie's face said, "Did that come from me?!" And I said to him, it was a collaboration of you n Jimi. Seriously, I believe we are surrounded by the spiritual world, those we pull into the living world if we feel a strong connection of some sort. Stevie was a force of nature, being able to channel music from inside. When it's that fierce, you can hear emotion. Well, that's my story and I'm stickin to it ! Peace.
Thank you for the GREAT SRV reactions!!! You are amazing! Still so many great SRV videos! Don’t ever hesitate to do the same song different concert. He never did a song the same way twice. All SRV suggestions below are GREAT!!!!! I haven’t watched or heard a song/video that disappointed me.
I hope you know you are watching GREATNESS & REALLY APPRECIATE HIM!! WATCH ... TIN PAN ALLEY WITH JOHNNY COPELAND!!,RUDE MOOD, LOVE STRUCK, ALL OF THESE HAVE TO BE LIVE.. .. IM JUST SAY.. GOD WAS SHOWING OFF WHEN HE MADE STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN SWEET LOVE.. & I MEAN THAT!!!!
This is a Jimi Hendrix tune. Big influence to Stevie and guitar players in general, considered GOAT by many of the greatest guitar players that live to this day.
Stevie Ray was a legend for real. I'd love to see you react to a living legend on the drums. Danny Carey of the band Tool. Pneuma live drum cam from concert in Boston
Jimi Hendrix, one of his heros. Same with Little Wing. He plays his own music, but loved Jimi. Another hero of Stevie was B.B King, And B.B. King loved him and called him the greatest...
YES! THE GOAT!! Awesome Guitarist gone too soon like Jimi Hendrix (Jimi 9/18 1970 and Stevie 8/27/1990 🙏🙏) who also was gone too soon which he wrote and played this song and Stevie thought of him The Master Guitarist 🎸
Knew you would love this one! For me,please try not to say GD! A little "F" or sh** here or there,no big deal. Please no GD! God bless, you're doing a good job! PEACE
Cover of Jimi Hendrix song. Which if you haven't checked out Hendrix, you MUST Jiminy Hendrix is an AMAZING guitarist from the 60's & 70's. You will be blown away at the brother's skills on a guitar.
You play the opening using a wah pedal or an expression pedal as some call it. He was given the wah pedal that Jimi Hendrix had used. I still say SRV was much better. Kept everything in control, didn’t depend on distortion and feedback like jimi
So yeah bro. You wanna know why music sounds so good today? You wanna know why the music in the 70s was so good. You wanna know how noise cancelling headphones were invented? Listen to the wall of sound! 40 FOOT P A. SYSTEM!
Stevie didn't drop anything during his performance - you can't see it on camera in this clip but a lot of guitarists have a variety of pedals and switches at their feet that they use to alter the tone of the guitar as they play, you might have heard of a wah pedal before. Most of the time they can just step on the pedal to apply the desired effect and Stevie does that here a couple of times, but there were a couple of instances in this performance where he bent down to do it by hand.
Gotta do "Tightrope" from this show,1989
I saw him opening a show for Dire Straits in Toronto a little while before he died. Best night of guitar ever.
NOBODY could cover Jimi the way that Stevie covered Jimi . . . . . not even Jimi!
Should have been in Dallas when he was first coming up. Straight assassin even as a young man 👍🏻💪🏻
SRV was by definition a cyborg. The guitar was an extension of his body, he and the guitar were one. Rest in peace Stevie!
Some people were put on this earth to do One Thing ... Perfectly.

Dope reaction bro! Youve never seen anyone play like that because no one else has
Truth💯🎸🎶
Absolute FIRE.🔥🔥🔥 Then the jaws drop and the eyes widen, 😲 and you just say "Wow" and "How"? 🤯 And that is your reaction. 🤪
RIP, King SRV. ☮️ to all.
G.O.A.T ❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥RIP Stevie 🙌
Just so you know his band is called Double Trouble ✌️This is their cover of the famous Jimi Hendrix song 🔥⚡️🎸
lol, reason it sounds familiar because *Jimi Hendrix* played the original song. Stevie Ray Vaughan played this as a cover version. And according to how good it sounds, I say Stevie Ray Vaughan did it justice 🤘
I'm so glad to see young generations giving SRV his roses. They are well deserved! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

What Michael said💯✌️💙
Two songs that hardly get any play are...Ain't Gon Give Up On Love and Change It both live at The Capitol Theatre..you won't be disappointed 💞✌
I second this choice🎶💙👏🙌‼️
@Starfire612...I second those choices!
Yes....love these..."Change It" at the same venue is fire too!!
Excellent RIP Stevie ❤️

The original Hendrix song has been sampled in rap too. Most famously by 2 Live Crew in their 1988 song My Seven Bizzos.
Stevie Ray was a legend for real. I'd love to see you react to a living legend on the drums. Danny Carey of the band Tool. Pneuma live drum cam from concert in Boston

Great reaction video, my dude!
You thinking Hulk Hogan at WCW. He came out to this song. AND listen to Tommy Shannon's absolutely killing the base.
Its an old jimi Hendrix song "Voodoo Child" and its been used all over the place even in wrestling and sporting events
I play guitar. 20 years now. I'm still mad at Stevie. He embarrasses all of us

Have a look at his sound check sometime.
You heard Jimi doing this one at Woodstock.

I never noticed how much FASTER Stevie's is than Jimmi's ... He's Rushing it a bit much (this take) for my taste.
I know you love the guitar but how about the drums. Please please listen and watch Rush drum solo Niel peart. You'll be amazed. X
Louie Bellson and Buddy Rich(the muppets)

You watch wrestling??? It was hulk Hogan's intro music
Ha - King - it's familiar b/c it's Jimi Hendrix! I like SRV better, but JH did the song first!
Jimmy Hendrix
SRV…one of the many reasons I hate aviation. Ikr1:56

Audio is terrible
jimmy hendrix was one of his guiding lights
