      We have the same toll free number for our business for 10+ years, and I believe a toll-free can not be ported into Unifi Talk (USA). If we were to switch to UniFi talk, what number would we be able to post on our website for customers to call into. How does this posted number routto to all the other UniFi lines on the system?

    I've been using Talk for a few months now, I have an All in One Printer/scanner/fax in my home office and had a need for fax line because I work from home and my daughter needs occasionally to fax documents to school, yes the school still has a fax line so I added the telephone adapter and hooked up to the AIO device, works like a charm. Thanks Cody for a great presentation again.

    Just wanted to say that you can also manipulate the generated attendants inflections. In the example here, Cody pronounces things as "mac telecom", but he wrote it like it is always written as mactelecom. This caused the attended to generate it more as "mc telecom". If you put a space in between words then the attendant will pronounce it more as mac telecom. In addition, you can write a word as FULL CAPS and it will ever so slightly change the inflection to emphasize that word more. If you'd prefer a little bit more of a space in the sentence you can add a second comms as well for instance and it will add about an extra 50-100ms delay compared to just 1 comma. It doesnt work for more than 2 commas though.

    Great presentation on configuring UniFi talk. The clarification between Locked and Unlocked was helpful. Just received my first locked phone and was able to set it up with relative ease. Highly interested in the connection to SIP providers and do plan on converting a few current customers. Keep up the good work! May be I can buy you a beer and lunch when in Canada next, specifically Guelph. Thanks!

    I'm wondering if this would be a good use case for my residential elevator phone. I already have a UDM-SE and once my house is built, I will be required to have a phone in the elevator to make outgoing calls. A traditional land line will be about $45 per month + other taxes and fees. Third-party SIP providers seem to be much cheaper. So I'm wondering if I got an ATA, a cheap phone and a SIP subscription, if that would be enough.

    I've managed several IP phone systems in the states. Mostly 3CX but I've worked with a few others. Can you set users into call groups that the auto-attendant can ring all or a prioritized hunt instead of aiming it at a singular destination?
    In addition, does the gateway/host device actually host the PBX? If so, I'm assuming it auto-writes the port rules in the firewall so that the SIP trunking can occur correctly.

    Great video, thank you. I've been thinking of switching to Unifi Talk to save money. I have a medical office with 5 phones right now, through Jive. I pay $26 per phone extension per month. So about $130 a month. Just one phone number that rings to all phones, and all phones can take direct incoming and make direct outgoing calls. But I'm learning from you, that to pay the $9.99 a month for one line, I have to buy the "unlocked" phones? That start at $199 each? I'm starting to question the cost-saving here. Thoughts?

    • @lawrencem360
      @lawrencem360 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At $130 a month, you are paying $1,560 a year. Talk will cost $995 for five $199 unlocked phones and $120 for service (12x $9.99), so $995 parts + $120 service = $1,115 for the first year. Your still saving $445 in the first year. The following year you will save $1,440 since you are only paying $120 (12x $9.99). I would say yes the savings are real.

    • @GardenDocSC
      @GardenDocSC ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lawrencem360 I understand the math, but it's a big initial layout upfront ($995 plus tax) for a system I haven't tested. How well does the voicemail-to-email work? I depend on that. Unifi/Ubiquiti hasn't been great on customer service on my end. Sales people have been quick to respond, but support people have been non-existent. So just want some opinions/guidance. Have you used the system? TIA

    I see that their phones have a two ethernet ports so you could connect a desktop computer through it. So if as in your video you have the phone connected to a voice network would that mean the computer daisy chained through the phone would be on the voice network as well or can it be a separate network? Seems like it would have to be the same network to me but that's not what I would want.

Sucks that we need an unlocked device to share a Unifi Talk line, it's not going outside the Unifi garden wall! I think the only drawback I can find as far as missing functionality is with sequenced number ringing. This is a static setting, and you cannot set it to ring a specific line only during or after business hours. A minor workaround can be had when using smart attendant and setting business hours, but as far as rining a cell phone if the desk doesnt answer during business hours and not rining the person's cell after hours is not yet possible. This has been the only functionality I wish was there and is missing so far with the newest UniFi Talk 2023 update.

    Nice video, however, let's say you have just 1 phone taking inbound calls. Can you transfer a call to another extension? Also, if you can transfer a call, what happens if another call comes in? Do they get passed through or do they get a busy signal? Perhaps an additional video on this would be helpful. Also, I have several Unifi phones from before they had the locked and unlocked phones, so I take it that all my phones are unlocked?

    • @LordSaliss
      @LordSaliss ปีที่แล้ว

      They get passed through. You can have "unlimited" calls coming in on the same number and active. Same for calls out, each phone can be making a call and tied to the same outgoing number and they can all call at once.
      If you bought phones before then I believe they are locked phones. Only the newer specifically unlocked models I believe are unlocked and dont have to be tied to a number. But you can check this to be sure by starting a free trial and seeing if you can assign one of your free numbers to a group, assign the group to the phone, and see if the phone works fine with just the single group number or not. If it does, then its unlocked. If it does not, then it is locked.

    Hey Cody
    I've set up Unifi talk. At the time the talk version was 1.19.2. I set up one phone just to give it a try. My plans are use it for my self with two phones.
    I ordered a second phone and the system updated to 1.20. Needless to say, the interface has changed significantly, but I've done my best to follow your video set up the second phone as an extension.
    It will not accept my second user for the phone assignment. It appears to me that I wants me to actually get the second user, another phone number. I've also tried creating a group. It accepts me, with the first phone, as a member, but disables me from selecting any other user (they have no assigned phone numbers other than extensions).
    I've got 8 days left for my free trial, but it seems to me that Unifi is requiring a phone number for all users.
    Do you have any ideas? Unifi is in the process of porting my phone number from another provider and If I can't get this to work, I may have have to port it back to my old provider (who sucks).
    Thanks for any help you can give me.
    As another piece of information, my phones are locked.

    Rather than manually setting the voice VLAN on the ports the phones are connected to, I would recommend creating a custom port profile in the settings, setting the untagged LAN to be your primary LAN or a DMZ, depending on your use case. Then add your voice VLAN to the Tagged VLANs list, and finally in the Voice Network option, add your voice VLAN there as well.
    The UniFi phones, as well as most other modern VoIP phones have LDAP enabled on them by default and look for the a voice network, so the switch will hand off the VLAN address to that phone automatically. The other benefit to this, is if you want to daisy chain a computer off of the phone, you don't have to worry about doing any other strange configurations to the phone or network. If the computers is to connect to the untagged LAN you selected, you can plug it into the back of the phone and it will grab an IP from the untagged LAN, while the phone stays on it's VLAN. You can also add additional tagged LANs to the switch profile you created to access those as well.

    • @bsem68
      @bsem68 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you mean LLDP-MED? I believe all UniFi switches support this and considering all UniFi switchports have All by default, then just checking LLDP-MED on the voice network should make it work, presuming the phones support VLANs.

    • @jamesshackletonat
      @jamesshackletonat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bsem68 Correct, LLDP-MED, not LDAP. To many acronyms going through my head today I guess. Just checking LLDP-MED on the voice network did not work for me when setting this up on UniFI equipment, I did have to create a switch port profile where I specify the VoiceLAN i create as the Voice Network.

As with all things, exact implementation details will vary based on your situation.

    I bought a unifi few phones to test. However, their service is to expensive. Yealink and cisco with GoTo or 8x8 + MS Teams integration is much cheaper than unifi. Clients get way more for the price, especially since Unifi doesn't budge on their sub. Great video nonetheless.

    • @MactelecomNetworks

      If you have the unlocked phone you can really just pay for one sub $9.99 a month what is the Cisco pricing

      @@MactelecomNetworks depending on the size of the project, I can get phones for free. If it’s just a few phones, like in your video, it’s all about the same. You just lose out on SaaS features. If GoTo didn’t give me a free phone line for my home/business, I would definitely give unifi a go.

      to do this, do all phones need to be unlocked or could the primary be locked and the others unlocked?@@MactelecomNetworks

      If $9.99/ month is too expensive for a business then you must be homeless. I did not buy unlocked phones and I have many phones on one number. All dial out and have extensions to receive calls. They also can ring each other internally. The unlocked phones are to use any other service than ubiquiti, not to use multiple phones on one number. I use 15 phones that are not unlocked on one number for $9.99/ month they just share the minutes. It’s practically free….

      @@Itcamefromthesea what are you even talking about? That’s how phone systems all work. Unifi isn’t scalable. I have over 1k VoIP deployments, and the cheaper and tested route is through other providers. But hey, I am glad you’re not homeless and your phones can ring each other lol.
