The Truth Behind the Duke vs BYU Volleyball Fake Racism Hoax

  • In my recent podcast with Jason Walton, we brought his son Josh, who was accused of hate speech, on to share his side of a story that happened almost 2 years ago...
At a Duke vs. BYU volleyball game, a Duke player claimed a BYU fan was yelling racial slurs at her during the match
BYU immediately banned the accused fan from all games and the story made national news, with some teams even cancelling games with BYU.
It eventually came out later that nobody else heard any hate speech, there was a cop standing within earshot of Josh and didn't hear anything, Josh wasn't even in the stands at the time the claims said he was yelling stuff to the player...none of it made sense.
BYU's athletic director Tom Holmoe later appologized and BYU lifted the ban, but I wanted to share this story as it's an important lesson of what happens when we jump to conclusions before getting the whole story.

Just like there should be severe consequences for people who yell racial slurs, there also needs to be serious consequences for those who claim racial slurs when irrefutable video evidence shows it to be false. Otherwise, thoughtless perpetrators will continue to destroy innocent people.

I would sue Duke, the player that made the accusation and the South Carolina head coach until they submitted a very public apology and retraction. And make a very public stink about Governor Cox and demand an apology from him as well, especially during this election cycle. We don’t definitely don’t need him as our next governor.

Obviously. The women’s South Carolina head coach came out and made racially biased comments against BYU at the same time as well and cancelled a game against them.

I'm glad that Tom Holmoe called to apologize. Duke, the player and South Carolina who doubled down when there was no evidence should all be ashamed. They made something into less than nothing.

    ...this is insane...
...I drove out to the BYU-Iowa State football game in Provo last November (2023)...
...before the game, during the game & after the game, I have never been surrounded by, met & talked w/ a more gracious, curteous, & friendly group of fans in my 52 years of attending ISU sporting events...
...I exchanged cell numbers w/ four of the people I sat near...and we're still staying in touch!
...I 've invited them to my tailgate whenever BYU travels to Ames...
...the one guy left w/ about 8:00 minutes left in the game (Cyclones were kicking cougar ass which I was completely surprised by)...he came back about 4 minutes later w/ something in his hand...he said "here ya go, a little something for the drive home"...he gave me a "Cougar Tail"...I couldn't believe it!
...had a nice breakfast w/ my coffee the next morning before I left to head home...
...wanna get out to Provo for a men's & women's basketball game now!

You need to go back and research the young lady's (Rachael Richardson) father. It'll become a little clearer on the "why" behind how this happened. He was the guy implementing the DEI elements at the ATF. Her aunt is a political activist in Houston with a history of racial incidents. A little more research can bring out the truth behind the incident.

Tom Holmoe is one of the finest men in Utah county and BYU . It is unfortunate how often many of us jump to conclusions in many circumstances . The racial reputation that Utah has in some circles is tremendously unfair. Many of my experiences in life with my friends of color and ethnic origin other than mine , have been dear friends. Lessons to learn all around.

im not saying all cops are bad, but they need to treat things as innocent until proven guilty. i was about 15 when one of my neighbors garages was broken into, the person stolen some things from their cars and some alcohol from a fridge in the garage. the suspect apparently walked up the street and next to our house, late at night (almost midnight) me and my dad heard a loud knock at the door and it was 2 cops, they informed us about the situation and said that they suspect i was the one who broke in when the entire day i was at home with my parents, the grilled me asking what i’ve been doing today, why i broke in, when they asked that i repeatedly told them it wasn’t me and they said “just be honest we know it was you” and when i asked to see the security camera footage they claimed to have they said it was “none of my business.” i was shaking cause i was so scared and angry, after one cop talked to me and one talked to my dad, (i try to still be nice) i offered to shake the officers hands and one cop said “i don’t shake hands with thieves” and they left. when i got inside i literally fell to the floor crying and having a panic attack. i know all cops aren’t like that but that has always been a traumatic experience for me that i still remember to this day 5-6 years later

Hey, at the gym at BYU plays volleyball the students are within only 8 feet maybe of the opposing player serving area. My daughter’s teammate that played against BYU there heard someone yell at her that “ he was going to F-- her up the b-tt.” My daughter played on a full ride DI scholarship and the crap that is said to the girls is usually from the opposing players but her teammates story rings true for me. Say what you want but go back and look at how close the students, non students are to the players serving on one end of BYU’s gym. They are about 8 feet away which way too close to be. That’s been that way for years.
