Nice! There is beauty in watches of all varieties. My quartz ripley SCED chronograph is one of my favourite watches, and digitals are loads of fun. Of course mechanicals come with a whole different load of history and variety to explore. Just enjoy the hobby!

Carini i timex.

For my 30 + years of life starting from kindergarten until a few weeks ago I have only owned at most 10 watches and of those I used only 5 or 6 for long periods of time. I used them as tools just to tell time. Of course I started with a digital watch. Most were cheap no name brands, 3 were digital(1 casio), one was ana-digi and 2 mechanical, a cheap Belorussian Luch and an automatic Bachrach(pretty unknown brand) which I got on the cheap from a colleague. Out of those the only ones still running are the Casio and the Bachrach. The mechanical one cost less than 20 euros in 2013, but I dropped it a couple of times and broke the day and month hands plus it started not keeping good time so I bought a Casio and wore it for 2years.This year I decided to fix the mechanical. The fix, the maintenance on it and replacing the strap cost me 50 euros and I came to a realization.
I've always liked watches, but didn't really consider having more than a couple working ones ones and for a long time I was a mechanical watch snob, thinking that only those have any real value. Not having much money I couldn't justify buying more mechanical watches so I didn't. Honestly I don't know where the snobbery came from, but when I went to fix the mechanical watch I realized that they were also expensive to maintain in the long run and even if I bought a cool expensive one or more, one day it would stop working well and I'd need to take a loan to repair it.
After that I became honest with my self and decided that what I like about watches is history and design and I like the 80s aesthetic so that brought me back to Casios and digitals in general and those are way more affordable and you can even change the battery yourself. You can still find decent deals on vintage digitals. Once this became clear, I thought that now I can finally start a watch collection, a modest one, that I can enjoy.
My point is that for people that just need a watch for telling time they will eventually pick a quartz one digital/analog, get a smartwatch because they need some of its features or not wear a watch at all and use the phone. But people that love watches for their design they will also embrace quartz because it's not only more practical and affordable, but there is a HUGE diversity of choice and some quartz models and brands are also pretty old now so they also have a history.
For example, I'm trying to get a Casiotron because it's Casio's first watch and it's one of the first digitals and as far can tell it's good quality, but I found one at bargain price. I think this is what is fun for all watch collectors, hunting a model and enjoying the design and history.
Sorry for rambling a bit :P

Good points were made! Thanks for sharing your perspective. At the end of the day, we are just here to enjoy our watches and have fun. Digital watches are amazing and I own several of them. A watch doesn't have to be mechanical to be a good watch, you just have to enjoy it!

      Agree 100% Marian!
There is an analogy in anything... mass produced and easy vs old-fashioned and expensive. Keep all avenues open and enjoy whatever you have access to.

Thank you for the video. Good breakdown -and no need to be self conscious about your English. I've found automatic watches to be completely impractical for everyday use. It's really annoying when you're running late for a meeting in the morning and you have to set and wind your watch. I'd suggest a quartz watch for everyday use and a nice automatic watch for special occasions.

Yeah I see your point of view. Thank you a lot for the comment on my English! Anyways, I often see myself grabbing a quartz just because it's still going ..so yeah they absolutely have a place as everyday beaters

Stop worrying about your English as it is just as good as most people who only speak English. Also sea gull make an affordable automatic chronograph movement so you can have a look at those. Just one more watch has a couple of reviews on them.
Keep up with the channel because I really enjoy your videos.

As for the seagull movements, i knew them but never really considered them ..maybe it's the idea of making such a purchase on aliexpress...

@@watcharc9569 seagull use the st19 moviment . It's a swiss project and they should work pretty well. It's more likely the most affordable automatic chrono. I think it's worth for the value.

Imo they are worth it if you're in a rush and need something to grab and go. But you can't beat the allure of mechanical or automatic

    • @watcharc9569
      @watcharc9569  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Agree, that's where my preference lies as well. But sometimes a quartz watch is just the best choice, it woul be a mistake to disregard them completely

No matter how much people dis quartz, I still think it's amazing that we found a material with just the right molecular structure, that it produces a current when vibrated at a frequency that is a perfect power of 2. Someone once commented that "we taught a rock to tell time" but I think actually the rock taught us how to tell time.

All watches have a spot in the market for different reasons. I’ll definitely add in the quartz moonswatch if I’m able to get my hands on one

Solar ones are good for 20 years no servicing , better time keeping 🧐

Right! Absolutely a good point. Hadn't thought about solar watches. I might make a video about them in the future!

  • @Bonpu

There is no quartz vs. mechanical conflict. Solar quartz is vastly superior in accuracy, dependability, longevity, cost. Mechanical is associated with care, tradition, emotion. However if your watch isn’t emotional, traditional and carefully made mechanical means nothing. If it’s a passionate, honest quartz watch quartz is just awesome!
