You've seen Avantasia lead singer, Tobias Sammet , in Ayreon's The Day That The World Breaks Down.
He's German, and this is his metal opera project he started in 1999. A few core members, and like Ayreon, use guest singers and musicians. One of the core members on this album was Eric Singer from KISS.
The 9th album , A Paranormal Evening with the Moonflower Society, came out last year. The Moonflower Society was the first single featuring Bob Catley. The next 2 featured Floor, Misplaced Among the Angels, and Kill the Pain Away.

That guitarist is Sascha Paeth. He's not only a guitar player, but also a pretty well known producer here in Europe. He worked w Kamelot, Epica, Angra, Avantasia and Edguy ofc, and many others.

I really love European rock. Looking forward to seeing Ayreon in concert in September. It will be my first trip out of the country and I am starting my "Bucket List". Wishing I was 20 again. Love your show, great reviews.

Please do more Avantasia. I suggest The Raven Child feat. Hansi Kürsch and Jorn Lande or the Scarecrow live from Wacken, also with Jorn th-cam.com/video/LTyxnUZMA1k/w-d-xo.html

What you get when Helloween and Iron Maiden have a child, Avantasia. And it's such a beautiful child.

Avantasia has a good balance of more mainstream stuff and epics. For the former I'd like to see Moonglow, and for the latter The Seven Angels, The Scarecrow (has a great live version from The Flying Opera), and finally The Raven Child (which I believe to be their best track).
Avantasia is similar to Ayreon, but with Tobias Sammet as the main mastermind. He writes the stuff, sings, sometimes does the bass and keys then gets guests for the rest.

Yes, Tobias is a legend, and there's literally a giant heap of a catalog of epic compositions that are 100% epic 🎉🎉🎉🎉 You need 2 go deeper here❣

I like to tell people to think of Tobias as the German version of Tuomas. He is the mastermind behind the band and like Tuomas his musical ability is cheat mode. Also, the Avantasia rabbit hole is every bit as rewarding as the Nightwish one (to me). Exquisite musical library and so many guest vocalists it would take a legal pad to write them all down haha

I concur!! I was a little late to the Avantasia thing but had really loved Edguy for quite some time (Tobi's other band) his entire cataloging is so great! Never got to see Edguy but I did see Avantasia a few years back, front row, what a great front man he is! The band and all singers involved.... just so awesome. No big stage frills, but 3 hours of awesome music performed greatly!!

Definitely 80's vibes to me, and a message to match. Back when most music was being used to make the world a better place, or try to.

Fun fact, the drummer in the video "Felix Boom Boom Bohnke" isn't the drummer on the track. The actual drummer on the track is Eric Singer.

I concur! Hower, while Misplaced among the Angels is a great ballad, the other song with Floor, Kill the pain away, is by far my favorite song of the new album.
The dark lyrics along with that journey-don't-stop-believing-vibe arrangement truly hits home. Has me in tears almost every time.

This track definately is the best of the whole album despite of the strong 80's discosound.
As someone once said - Avantasia is more metalized and less self-indulgent version of Ayreon. But comparing Tobias with Tuomas - not even close.
