You should always open the brake fluid tank in the engine bay, when u put on new calipers the level will rise and when pistons are compressed it can rupture the tank
Love the video, nice to discover that i actually dont need to take off the bracket to change the rotors. Now i just need to borrow a piston tool, then i can do this job on my 06 Saab 9-3 Wagon!
Auto Autopsy the vented discs are thicker than the non vented, so when the brake pads reaches their min thickness the piston may not have enough meat to hold it in place and may pop out
Well not exactly. The thing is that when the pads are at the end of life and the piston may be about 8 - 12mm further out then with vented discs. that may do it a bit tricky to get back when replacing new ones. the piston it self will not pop out and the pad is not it self small enouph to fall out when its end of life. I have it my self on my Saab 9-3 SC and its no bigger problem. the only thing is that vented brakes matches the engine
Notice how easy you got the disc back on even though you didn’t remove the caliper carrier and how easy the caliper slid over the pads after replacement? That’s because the disc is the wrong thickness for your arc. Caliper should just slightly fit over the new pads and disc when everything is new
I have an 04 saab 9 3 the title doesnt say but its a linear. I was sold the wrong rotors. I didnt re install that screw. Mine stripped so i drilled them out.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot my password. I love any tips you can give me
@Carter Mason Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Not sure about that, my '06 Aero 2.8 conv. has the smaller non vented rotors. This I found from the door sticker 'BA' designation indicates 278mm. Non-vented. I guess it depends on the manufacturer date. Mine happened to be built Oct. 2015
Hey auto autopsy, I’m 17 and I have a 2005 saab 9-3 and for some reason it doesn’t start, there’s not check engine light on or anything like that... the fuel pump doesn’t turn on even after I replaced it last week. It was working fine one day then the next day it just stopped turning on, I live in Wisconsin and there’s nobody else I could think of and you were the first so if you have any ideas can you let me know? Thank you
Fuel pump use is good, we replaced the fuel pump and it still doesn’t turn on when I start the car🤦🏻♂️Idk what to do anymore and the fuel pump was after market so maybe that’s the issue but I’ma check in on it
Hey auto autopsy what size are those brakes 314mm, 302mm, 285mm I'm trying to change mine just don't know the brake rotor size.? can u please help me with that.
Hey, I've got a 9-3 2.0t convertible 2004, and I find the steering extremely loose at high speeds (70+ MPH) is this normal for this car?.. already had the rear end slip out on me and just feels very loose and light.. thanks a lot.
Good to see you can get away with out removing the carrier's, however i bet when i do mune they will be stuck ,i just did the fronts and they were stuck fast ,i used the nut znd bolts 🔩 method through the carrier holes and csme off luke butter after one turn .
0:53 it's nice what you did to the trim to match your rims, but I murdered mine out. I made an aggressive appearing car even more aggressive. she's a black beauty :)
yeah, i know there's a different and I've mentioned it before; i just figure people would see it's an entirely different car and know it's not the same!
Nice vid BUT.......... Those solid discs are smaller and thinner than the old vented discs you took off. Thats going to give you two issues. 1 - the pads will extend over the edge of the discs - not good. 2 - when the pads wear down the outer one could very well slip through the gap between the carrier an the disc - very dangerous. You should change the caliper and the carrier's or just put venteds on.
I wanted to change my rear discs and pads for 2003 9-3 2.0t Aero SAAB. I bought 292mm x19.9 mm vented discs (the same type what was used before) but i can't put in brake pads(16mm thickness) in caliper - they doesn't fit in. Total thickness of disc and pads are ~52mm, but the gap in caliper is around 48mm. Can anyone tell what should I do?

Good tip!
Yeah...gloves are a good idea. And why did you replace a ventilated disc with a solid one?
my mistake on that one!
Solids wear out better for everyday driving
This is honestly one of the best DIY brake job video I've seen on TH-cam. Good work man. Appreciate the content!
thank you!
Dude your shorts game is legendary. 💯 Nice work on the rears. The fronts are going to be fun to watch!
thanks man! Fronts go live in a few minutes
Looks like that new rear rotor should be thicker?
Looks like a solid disc? Those are for linears, with weakest brakes.
You should have a 292 mm brake disc.
yeah. seems wrong with solid brake disc :-/
good point, i assumed mine has the 278
Love the video, nice to discover that i actually dont need to take off the bracket to change the rotors. Now i just need to borrow a piston tool, then i can do this job on my 06 Saab 9-3 Wagon!
Yep! It’s not too bad at all :)
But i discovered that it’s not possible on models with smaller brakes, as on my linear. And the bracket bolts were on really thight😑
@@torgerhavag just discovered that last night on mine too (16” tires.)
Watching this has given me what I need to do mine. Thank you.
Glad I could help
Wrong brake disc, u will pop the piston out if these pads reach min thickness
What...?
Auto Autopsy the vented discs are thicker than the non vented, so when the brake pads reaches their min thickness the piston may not have enough meat to hold it in place and may pop out

He should be using the 292mm rotor. That’s what the Aero uses.
I assumed mine had the 278 and non-vented, but see what you guys are saying, thanks for alerting me to it
Notice how easy you got the disc back on even though you didn’t remove the caliper carrier and how easy the caliper slid over the pads after replacement?
That’s because the disc is the wrong thickness for your arc. Caliper should just slightly fit over the new pads and disc when everything is new
correct, i messed up

You came in clutch buddy, doing a break job tomorrow on my 08 93, hope to meet you one day in a saab meet I'm in San Diego 🤘🏼 cheers
For sure, or hit me up if you ever come to Phoenix!
You put on the wrong rotor in the back for the aero. You got the standard and smaller 2.0 (278mm non vented disc) but the Aero takes 292 vented rears.
this car wasn't an aero which is why i thought it initially has 278's; lesson learned. i quickly replaced it with the right rotors
Not sure about that, my '06 Aero 2.8 conv. has the smaller non vented rotors. This I found from the door sticker 'BA' designation indicates 278mm. Non-vented. I guess it depends on the manufacturer date.
Mine happened to be built Oct. 2015
I've always found the lack of dust boots odd on Saab 9-3 calipers. It's so annoying cuz the grease washes off after about 3 days
I was about to change both of mine on my saab 9 3 2.8t as well
nice!
Thanks man and is ur Saab automatic or manual? It sounds good
It’s automatic! Here’s the exhaust I have on it: th-cam.com/video/khj3nIuyoy8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8qLbddL1VGvkgbwD
5:40 caliper piston compression
that would be it
Do you open the bleed nipple when compressing the piston? Any issue forcing fluid upline in a Saab?
No need to mess with any of that. Just make sure the ebrake isn’t on
Do you need to bleed if the caliper is never disconnected from the brake line?
no, although it wouldn't hurt to do.
What size was the rotor?
7mm torx? What’s that in T as in 16T or 20T? Just because I need to buy a set of sockets
NVM I just released its HEX not Torx. 😑
Yep! Lol
Hey dude I’ve a Saab 93 sports 2007,my headlights is bit poor so can you recommend me a more white colour light bulbs please.thanks
I have LEDs in mine: th-cam.com/video/eC_ptwr__6I/w-d-xo.html

Check your fuel pump fuse. Fuse is located in the little box in front of the battery. Should be 20 amp fuse in the number 2 slot.
Also hopefully you used an OEM Saab fuel pump? Aftermarket does not last on these cars!
Fuel pump use is good, we replaced the fuel pump and it still doesn’t turn on when I start the car🤦🏻♂️Idk what to do anymore and the fuel pump was after market so maybe that’s the issue but I’ma check in on it
good luck! Could also check the battery too
Hey auto autopsy what size are those brakes 314mm, 302mm, 285mm I'm trying to change mine just don't know the brake rotor size.? can u please help me with that.
Your door panel should give you a code for the brakes. If you don't have the bigger caliper on the front, it's not 314mm
2009 9-3 2.0T Can’t slide the rotor off without removing the caliper bracket. Help
Then remove the caliper bracket if that’s the case. It should just be two bolts
@@AutoAutopsy yes. That top bolt is tough to get to.
Broke two wrench.
Been soaking with penetrating oil. Maybe next week
Satisfactory results bro
:)

Im not exactly sure what the cause of that could be; I'd ask in a facebook group

I'm not a fan of all black cars, but thank you! To each their own :)
IS IT ONLY ME NOTICED THAT YOU CHANGED VENTED DISC FOR SOLID ONE???
No, there’s a few comments on it. I realized this shortly after and bought vented ones to put on.
We need to specify 2003 excluding convertibles, those started in 2004 2003 9-3 convertible is old design, I have had both, so I know..lol
yeah, i know there's a different and I've mentioned it before; i just figure people would see it's an entirely different car and know it's not the same!
More power white colour bulbs
Super good
👍🏼😁
Cool. 👍
:)
The piston boot looks to be in poor shape.
it did have a slight crack/tear in it
I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. Thanks!
