    Hello Gary,
    for me as a huge Yngwie fan I thought it is a must have to own that signature guitar.
    Unfortunately I had great problems not to bend the tone out of pitch when playing chords or single tones.
    And I also didn't made it with the High E-String which is dangerously near on the edge of the fretwire.
    The String would slip off the frets so often, which was very disappointing and also demotivating.
    In the end I had to send the guitar back and bought instead of it a Fender AM pro Strat and then I changed the pickups with the YJM signature pickups. Since than I'm happy because I found over this way the best solution for me.
    And thank you so much for sharing your experiences on this video!
    With greetings from Germany
    Matthias

    These guitars have a tendency to ship with the high E string being a bit too close to the edge. (So a lot of people say) In the video it looks like yours could be one of them.
    Sometimes it can be fixed by loosening the neck and making sure it’s seated properly. Others get a new nut cut to compensate for it or different (smaller width) saddles.
    But I could be wrong on this account, but there’s some things to consider for people buying one of these and experiencing the high E slip problem.

    • @chrisking6695
      @chrisking6695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I blamed my guitars for the same issue but learning how to compensate for it helped. It's definitely a technique issue in my case.

    • @jazznotes3802
      @jazznotes3802 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisking6695 At least your guitars all good then. The high E string slipping is rarely a technique issue though, on a 9.5 scale fretboard.
      Light strings with low action on a 9.5 radius or lower can lead to getting E string slippage though. (As it creates a little less tension)

    The only benefit is to catch the frets as you jump between positions. Paganini would scallop violin necks but that's only because violins don't have any fretting which makes rapid and accurate movement along the neck really, really hard. Guitars don't have that problem but Yngwie decided to scallop guitar necks anyway! Why? Basically because he thought Paganini was cool.

    • @ilhamakbar5482
      @ilhamakbar5482 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't think you could "scallop" a violin, and also i think that Yngwie scallop his guitar because Blackmore used a scalloped guitar. CMIIW.

    i guess one would have less problems adapting to a scalloped neck with thicker strings. 10-46 in standard tuning is already enough to have less effect on the whole thing. yngwie uses a weird mix set of 8-46, probably that's why he doesn't have the problem with the high e sliding off the frets to the side of the neck.

    I "borrowed" a used Yngwie from Guit Center for a month and I *really* liked the scalloped frets. It made bar chords effortless and generally the effort needed to play it was *way less* than my Les Paul. Due to the mismatch between the narrow neck on the Yngwie and my tuba player's fingers . . . I took it back and got my Les Paul scalloped. This led to me getting my Tele and my Larrivee scalloped. Nuff Sed.

    I've seen many people here and on other videos, for years, talking about the e string slipping off
    This is clearly a massive issue, so I'm not sure why Fender aren't addressing it, but I suppose it's designed to Malmsteen's spec so if they changed it for everyone it would change for his as they are literally the exact same guitars

    Guitars with scalloped fingerboards really helps correct bad habits. I had absolutely no issues with scalloped fingerboards. But the usual complaints people have about them is really just a complaint about their own technique. Damn it, it's hard to write this without sounding like a complete douchebag. I mean well, I promise! 😅

      No Bro I agree these guys have got into th habit of pressing to hard on the fretboard and the e slipping of is the e string is to close to the edge of the frettboard . I' would re slot another nut or have it done .Bad setup or maybe the brass nut has moved I don't think they glue those in

    Fender string spacing runs the Es to the outside. Since I stopped buying Fender and started using Warmoth, I found using a neck that is 1-3/4 wide at the nut but using a nut cut for 1-11/16 spacing gives plenty of deck at the outside.

    I own a scalloped strat and there is no difference in the sound. Sustain might be a hair better, but other than that, it is much rougher on the fingers.

    The problem with the high E string seems like its because the neck is not straight relative to the bridge. Measure the distance from the the low E string to the nearest edge of the fingerboard and then do the same for the high string to the nearest edge of the fingerboard. That measurement should tell you if your neck is in alignment or not. My guess is that the neck is not aligned correctly. you can loosen the neck screws and change the alignment.

    You might want to get a hybrid tremolo that has a narrower string spacing so that you don't run out of real estate with the strings so close to the board edge.

    Why do you folks insist on having distortion and overdrive effects on max when playing? Who knows whether there are notes in the chords being bent out of tune with all that crap on. Likewise on the individual notes- if you'd play the thing clean, we could hear how the string attack come through when fretted with those scalloped frets. From this, all I can tell is that the frets look weird and you really like that distortion pedal.
