I live in Townsend 16 minutes from Tremont if you guys are up this way again you should hike to Abrams falls in cades cove it's 5 miles round trip but is very easy hike and falls are bigger and nicer

We are staying in Townsend and looking for a short waterfall hike with kids 7, 9, and 11. Would you recommend this one or is there another you would suggest? We hate crowds and traffic which is why I was looking into this one. Thanks!

This is Bob H., the retired NYC FIREFIGHTER that is coming down to your neck of the woods in the first week of June. I have 2 questions. Is it worth bringing my fishing pole to these falls. The last question is that I heard in the video that their is a quicker way to get to these falls. If yes, where would I park to get to the falls. My wife is like your wife a little, she would rather find a faster or easier way. If you can answer these questions that would be a great help. You told me months ago you would tell me some good fishing spots. I'm only 2 weeks away from coming maybe you can share a secret or 2. THANKS
Hey Bob! I wouldn't bring my fishing pole to these falls. The national park is fly fishing only and can be difficult to catch any that might be in a body of water. We never could figure it out, but if you go to the tremont visitors center they should be able to show you were to park and walk up the shorter route. Have a great time Bob!
I know I can fish in the park with a spinning rod as long as the lure I use has only 1 hook. I just didn't know if that area had enough pools with trout in it. I didn't know if it was worth bringing my pole to Spruce Flat Falls.
No we are not. We have gone to many trails with our kids through the years and have never had an issue. Last year the park saw 14 million visitors & I can only think of one incident at a campground a few months back. Just be smart & keep distance. Keep bear spray on you if it would give you more peace of mind. I hope this helps Diane!

Spruce Flats is my favorite. Upper Spruce is real too but a little more difficult.

Are you ever scared of the bears? We are headed down in two weeks and I’m most worried about bears.
No we are not. We have gone to many trails with our kids through the years and have never had an issue. Last year the park saw 14 million visitors & I can only think of one incident at a campground a few months back. Just be smart & keep distance. Keep bear spray on you if it would give you more peace of mind. I hope this helps Diane!
