Ahhh, yes. This song conjures up memories of Maddie Hayes and David Addison, and a time when TV shows were actually good and worth watching. I loved this show as a child. Thanks, Cat. 🙂
Have heard many different "MIXES" of this wonderful tune. This 1 is by far, the Finest I've heard. The Original version is painfully TOO Short. This version is seamlessly Well Done! Thanks For creating and uploading this.♥👏
It is sad and very upsetting people such as myself must live without him any more. Fan's like miss him more every day.i still love the sound.thank you al and god .
Used to have my clock radio set for 5.45AM to New York's "SMOOTH JAZZ CD 101.9 FM", five days a week... On the days when AL JARREAU woke me up with his smooth voice, I just knew (rain or shine...) I'd have a great day at work, and a fabulous time at school, in the evening. New York's SMOOTH JAZZ CD 101.9 (with hosts Pat & Ray...) was unfortunately put to rest in 2008. The amazingly talented AL JARREAU left us way too soon, in 2017. THANK You for the music and the memories, Sir.💜 ...and THANK You DJDiscoCat, for giving this GEM Your very own, gentle Jazz Funk Treatment!💕
Those were the good-old days. I miss WQCD. It was in the former Daily News building on the East Side of Manhattan. That radio station was cool! Before WQCD, WPIX 102 FM, superseded by WQCD, played Al Jarreau and Jeffrey Osborne.
I have so many positive memories with this song… and all these great artists .. Al Jarreau, Nile Rodgers, DiscoCat and of course one of my favourite movie couples Cybil Shepherd and Bruce Willis in wonderful Los Angeles during the 80’s..
No never knew Nile Rogers produced this magical masterpiece but I can add that to one of the many great productions he had constantly made during those years...and gosh he had several great ones...I always admired his work so it made me happy that'd he's also got his name in great TV production theme songs too... especially this particular theme which will always be one of my all time TV theme songs!
What a fabulous Sunday morning selection to remix! I'm so glad you chose to do this! I love Al Jarreau, and this song has probably never been heard by many younger people! Thank you for reviving it for them!!
I loved this show so much, when I got older I went and bought the car Maddie drove BMW635Csi... pearl white with a sunroof, I glad I kept it after all these years, Thank you DJDC for bringing back this cut for a old man to roll down the street and play this jam, Bless you.
You're right - had no idea of the Nile Rodgers connection! The show was a watershed though, in terms of the soundtrack, and the introduction of Bruce Willis. Tuesday nights on BBC2, couldn't miss it! Started to go south when Bruce's ego started to kick in, and the romantic storyline with David and Maddie killed it for me - the whole chemistry of the show was they were like cat and dog, and the scriptwriting was thick and fast - a trick the writing team repeated with Ally McBeal. Still, a standalone TV show of the 80s and with the legendary Al Jarreau on the theme tune, it couldn't lose!
Bruce's way of understanding beautiful women being so superficial was said to piss her off -- she was said to be quite the tramp - a Gorgeous one at that - WHOAaaaaaa -- ahahahahaha
I wish I would have kept my 45 single copy. Bought it at the Galleria Mall in Riverside, California. Tossed it out in 1993 when I moved out of my childhood home. Reminds me of being a teenager, just wishing I could be cool like Bruce Willis.
Nile Rodgers produced Jarreau's album "L Is For Lover" in 1986, and this version of the Moonlighting theme was probably part of those sessions. Thanks, Djdiscocat!
Al Jarreau falleció en 2017 a los 76 años en un hospital de Los Angeles. Ganó en 7 ocasiónes él premio Grammy, éste tema popularizó su voz en todos los países dónde se transmitió. Nacido en Milwaukee. Thanks From México City. !!
well -- they kinda played it all the way through the whole scenes in the backgrounds differently all the time - which was what was good about it also - made the song grow on us sor-ta-speakin !
Probably, this tune is one of the more playing in my house. The smoothness, the scat, the Jarreau voice is phenomenal. This mix Is absolutely glorious. Thanks for this great memory. Greetings from Buenos Aires.
i just have to say how much I appreciate your remixes. Very professional. There are a lot of Frankenstein remixes where the same song is merely sown together. I am glad you hold yourself to a higher standard. Love your channel.
Oh yassssssssss!!! another fantasic artist and track. This can be a Salute to john McClain aka Bruce Willis who is not doing the very best with his health these days. This is a great way to end a weekend! Thank you DJ!
Good job with this extended - but as always in these days - the bass is oversaturated - which could be the process of yutube - which always muddles the sound - the midbass that almost leads this sound - is most excellence -- but a very good turnout anyway - What a great combination of artists that made up this the maybe greatest TV theme song of all times -- what a terrific time in this country's past - Times never to be seen again - sad * -- Al Jarreau seemed almost a metaphysical delightful breath of fresh air in this - may just be one of the better extended downloads on yutube of this - good job DiscoCat -- 👍

I loved watching Moonlighting. It was a special show for the 80’s. I remember one episode where the cast walk off the set and ask where Al is. The band had no idea. Curtis Armstrong stepped up to the plate and the music played but Armstrong was cut out immediately and replaced by Al’s beautiful vocals. The song awakens many emotions. Nothing negative. More like longing. I used to walk in the late night hours to a diner and I would get in a booth that had a mini jukebox on the table. I would play the Moonlighting theme. On those nights, the moon was full and bright amongst a sea of stars. I would think about walking in starry, moonlit night with a special lady. This song would be the soundtrack of our nocturnal wanderings.
"Moonlighting" was among my parents' favorite shows at the time. I remember the theme well. I did not know Nile Rodgers produced it! When I first saw that credit on the 45 in the first seconds of the video, I said "Hmm...never knew that." Then it's the first thing DJDC mentions in the description. 😮
Ahhh, yes.

*LYRICS:*
Some walk by night
Some fly by day
Nothing could change you
Set and sure of the way
Charming and bright
Laughing and gay
I'm just a stranger
Love the Blues and the Braves
There is the sun and moon
Facing their old, sweet tune
Watch them when dawn is due
Sharing one space
Some walk by night
Some fly by day
Something is sweeter
When you meet 'long the way
There is the sun and moon
Facing their old, sweet tune
Watch them when dawn is due
Sharing one space
So come walk the night
Come fly by day
Something is sweeter
'Cause we met 'long the way
We'll walk the night
We'll fly by day
Moonlighting strangers
Who just met on the way
Who just met on the way
