    Great tip Dave. I've just tried it on an image I recently sharpened and it is definitely better. Thanks.

    What sorcery is this? Impressive stuff. I'm trying to decide if I need this or the Gigapixel for when I crop images and want to sharpen the resulting smaller image.

    Ok love sharpen AI. I am at the point where my photos are coming out good enough to edit. Need a video to help nitwits like me who start off in Raw mode, but after playing with the photo to make it perfect to me ,I send it off for printing and 11x14 comes back as mess. Need process from raw or tiff to really understand how to get the capture resolution right for print size. I have a chart that shows me what size for what size of print. I JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GET THERE. THANK YOU, John from Oregon

    Excellent! I had been taking for granted that in comparison view when I selected the Auto settings they would be applied to all 3 modes. I had no idea that you needed to check each mode. My guess is that this explains several disappointing results I've had...would never have known this without this video. Thanks!

    Very concise tutorial Dave, thank you. Is the photoshop filter for Topaz sharpen a separate installation from Topaz Sharpen AI standalone program? Or does the photoshop filter install automatically?

    Dave..my image is getting re-sized and re-composed after Sharpen AI runs and Applies it (output) back to Studio2. The image in Studio2 was a cropped and enlarged one from AI GigaPixel with its Long-dimension set to 5000pixels and its Ratio at 3:27. Help told me it was my graphic card.

    Excellent tutorial on Sharpen AI. I will try and take the advice of using just sharpen AI for ISO's lower than 1000 or so rather than using both to save time. Good information also on using the views to compare and using Auto. Very useful. Thanks.

    Just downloaded Stand-alone Sharpen AI new v3.1.0. When I try to run the program, it is still caught up in a loop 1 hour later. I cannot use Sharpen AI plug-in in Studio2 because is re-sizes my processed image, unrequested by the way, if my image has a long-dimension greater than 4000px. All I get from the Help Desk and Sales is ‘Boiler-plate replies and the runaround. I have given them my phone number and no one from Topaz calls. Guess I will have to rely on Photoshop 2021 with its PixelGenius plug-ins.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you need to use them both I would use DeNoise Ai First and use minimal to no sharpening from DeNoise. I would let Sharpen Ai handle the sharpening.

    I enjoy your videos. Sad story, I upgraded to Big Sur and can no longer reliably use any Topaz plug-ins. Bad on me for the mistake of upgrading. Now I'm having to restore to Catalina. I'd hoped that Topaz would finish their updates but no luck. Sometimes some of the plug-ins work, sometimes they don't. Others (Like Studio 2) never work but Topaz warns you about that.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Lee and sorry to hear that about Big Sur. I almost updated and I usually do but decided against it this time and I am glad I did. I hope the Topaz guys get working on updating their products for Big Sur.

    Thanks Dave for an excellent video. I just purchased Sharpen Ai (7/14/2021) and the modes are different -I assume do to upgrades. Now it is Focus, Blur, and Soft. Is Sharpen Ai nondestructive? Can I go back to repair areas needing adjustment? Can I make local adjustments? Thanks.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re welcome Larry. You are correct about the updates and the different modes. It doesn’t work as a Smart Filter in Photoshop so it is not non-destructive. You can make local adjustments by using the masking tool in Sharpen Ai or if you use Photoshop you can use layer masking to do local adjustments.

    What LR detail/sharpening settings do you use before Edit in Topaz? I mean - is it wise to switch off LR denoise/sharpening? Or ... ?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't do any sharpening or noise reduction in LR I do it all in Topaz.

    • @MatsSoomre
      @MatsSoomre 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly thnx! So it means - the best way is to switch off whole panel in LR?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MatsSoomre I wouldn't switch it off. I forgot to mention that I do use LR's default Color Noise Reduction 25 Color, 50 Detail and Smoothness 50 but I pull off the Sharpness and the Noise Removal Sliders. I find I get the best results by keeping the Color noise reduction on. Try it and see what you think.

    Auto mode is disabled in comparison view.

  • @candizippie

    Hi Dave--It seems I have another problem/deal breaker with Sharpen AI. I'm using the trial version 4.0.2. I keep getting this "A file for this model needs to be downloaded before processing" and it takes a good ten minutes with my Hughesnet internet (which I hate but am stuck with for now). Is there any way to disable this downloading process? I don't see any option in preferences unless I'm missing something. Thanks very much!

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go into Single View and Not Comparison View. I would recommend that you just go ahead and click on each model and wait until it downloads and then click the next one and let it download. Do this until they all download. This is just a one time thing. Once you have them downloaded they won't have to download anymore. I know it's a pain but it is part of the installing process.

    • @candizippie
      @candizippie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly I tried it on three models, they downloaded to about 42% and stopped, never completing the download. If I tried to do anything with the picture it would start the downloading process again. Something must be wrong with it. I don;t know if they'll let me uninstall the program and reinstall it again or if that would resolve the problem. I'll try to contact their tech support. Thanks for your help for sure!

    Hi Dave. In this video as well as an earlier one you indicate an ISO of 1000 as the cut-off. But in a video of both Sharpen and Denoise (th-cam.com/video/VAFN1w2n75E/w-d-xo.html) your table at ~7:50 suggests an ISO of 800. Is there an explanation for the difference or doesn’t it really matter?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know I said that about ISO 800 and I think for older more noisier cameras that is a safe bet. For later model cameras I think ISO 1000 or lower is fine. Thanks for pointing that out Bruce. I originally said ISO 1000 or lower in an even earlier video and then I back peddled to ISO 800 on the video you are referring to because I know that older cameras have a tendency to have more noise even at lower ISO's.

  • @PMF86

    It’s awful for speed. It can take up to 10-15 minutes to edit an image. If you make a mistake, you have re-process again and it takes another 15 minutes, so imagine this after a wedding/christening shoot when you have 300 photos? And, YES I do have a fast system with good RAM and processing speeds. Unless they sort out these speeds, I’d rather stick with Adobe PS & LR.

    Every photo I've tried Sharpen Ai with, it's done a shit job. So I'm assuming this program is only good for photos that are almost good to begin with.
