In halo wars 1, the spirit of fire crew pick up 3 Spartans in a mission evacuating civilians during a covenant invasion. The Spartans are Jerome, Alice, and Douglas. These are the three hero units of the surviving halo wars 1 commanders. There is a story reason for these heroes. That being said, I do find it very odd that there are two leaders who have the same person as a hero unit.

Syfoxs Serum a veterancy 2 hunter captain can 1v1 a condor no problem, like at the end of the fight he'll have around 1/8 of its health missing
I would have liked to see Colony at #1. Despite it being unlocked last in the leader power tree, Colony has that passive healing ability that extends to all of its units and buildings, and that alone makes him my favorite leader to play. Along with the Hunter captain and the skitterers, he's such a bulky, tanky leader even without the healing upgrade.
Combat Repair is definitely an incredible leader ability. I love the implementation of Skitterers and think that he is a great leader in the right hands. -Nick

Isabel is really good if the enemy is heavy on vehicles, I've been wiped by having my own scorpions and vultures melt half my army at a clutch moment

Not even joking, if you get his boundless siphon and boundless fury. Go all grunts, set the global rally point to where the battle is or is gonna be at and as grunts die, build replacements, the only thing it won't work against are tanks whether it be wraith, scorpions, grizzlies or colossus, I've killed 3 scarabs like that. Also be sure to dodge powers too because those cost heavy casualties, reducing too much at once, the grunt strat only works when they're a massive force together.

I used to love more the first Halo Wars, a great game from master Ensemble Studios but I loved how HW2 got all those leaders, new ones and clasics ones. Great saga!

Phantoms are a really viable option as long as you build engineers with them. I usually go for 6 Phantom with 6 engineers. I prefer to have 2 enforcers with a hunter per Phantom.

I think Andres is quite powerful having allot of instant unit supports also her sentinel beacon (I think that’s its name) allows her to scout an entire map to an extent

I'm buying the standard edition of this game and should I be worried about not having dlc leaders? Should I be fine with just the base game leaders casual or competitive wise? I hope so cus it'd kind of suck to get destroyed by other players just cus they bought a better leader. Am I also at a big disadvantage for unit selection too? I just wanna know how much of an effect it'll have.
Nice to hear Decimus be in tier 1. I haven't played much halo wars 2 yet, but it has always felt as a great leader, even when I haven't tested most of the purchasable leaders.

Cutter should be at least tier 2 in my opinion. He isn't as good at rushing as he used to, but his leader powers make him great in the mid-late game. I actually have had success turtling as cutter in the early minutes, (using speeded infantry and kodiaks to lock down bases and forerunner generators.) As for the mid to late game, I make a balanced army of air, infantry and vehicles. (I can put exact numbers if anyone wants to try it out.) Use his pelican assaults to lead enemies into traps (like pinning them between two armies or splitting yours up.) His three drops can stop enemy counter attacks or to create your own ones. You can also use them to cut retreating enemies off, destroy their artillery by dropping behind their lines, and even sometimes taking down undefended bases. Cutter strives through early, mid, and late game, and especially in 3v3's.
We need another tier list especially woth voridus and pavium
I feel like Vordus would be 2 for potential but pavium a 1or2 for defense and the enduring healing thing

Great video Nick! I agree with most of your ratings. I do think that Forge is still in tier one though solely because the Hog is still ridiculously strong and can run away from basically any engagement. Enforcers can help with this, but it can be rebuilt so quickly and will take out half of your enforcers in the meantime. Other than that though I think you nailed it with the tier one leaders. Jerome has always been good, although I do think he is vulnerable still in the early game. Yapyap is crazy good though, just has to be used by the right people.
I'd like if you uploaded the streams because that lets the people that couldn't watch see the video

Hmm I haven't used cutter since his speed nerf, shocked that's he's lower than Johnson though as he was one of my favourites and got me to champion.
Arbiter has grown on me and I love how you can either open ghosts or enforcers+suicides depending on the match up. Would you say he's viable in 1's or best in just teams?
I haven't used Jerome much but I'll give him a go as I'm stuck on which unsc to use. I fully agree with isabel. Her tanks are great but that's literally it. Sure she has combat salvage but so does forge who has a better a hero and other abilities.

Glad to see Colony higher on the list. Jerome and Colony are my favorite two to play. I just wish we had a Spartan lll based leader (Mendez or Kurt could’ve been a good option).

You’ve used the retriever sentinel, with a gang of protector sentinels and some cyclopses right?
Isabel's tanks are really good, her passive power gives her tanks shields and her canisters are larger, it even gives nightingales shields too, if the enemy has anti vehicle, the larger canister makes quick work of them, I've done it and it's happened to me a few times. People just don't know how to use her correctly, like the holographic decoy at the start, cloned my spartan and faked out an enemy hero, got the kill too. The only weakness to the tank and nightingale comp is air, but if you can balance out the units correctly, you should be able to get wolverines in there too, plus the mac blast does mad damage too, also a good alternative if the enemy anti vehicle is too spread out for canister. Alice's machine gun is made for killing all infantry units, even heros, you just gotta watch out for the warlord because he has stun attacks so you gotta use the range and spartan slam to your advantage. Or you could even just go air with Isabel and when the enemy has anti air, just use ghost in the machine to take em over and it'll disrupt the enemy army. Isabel is my favorite UNSC leader, the only time I've lost with her is due to lack of team support and I'm literally fighting off 2 armies.

Phoenix she handles decently early game, if you can handle her well, she can do fine early game. You just gotta focus on getting those units that only require supplies so you can get your Tech up for those tanks, early game I have an army consisting of Alice with the machine gun (shits on basically every infantry in all of existence, including heros besides the warlord because of his stun) warthogs (more basic infantry killers) and marines with combat mech, if they try snipers, use the hogs, they try hunters or cyclops, Alice and the marines can fuck em up, plus if you use the decoy right, the enemy is literally not shooting at you, if they go air, the army comp handles air decently or if you feel the need, you can get some wolverines (luckily she has that power for cheaper vehicles too do the power amount for wolverines get really cheap so it won't affect your Tech advance that much) it's something to have while you're trying to get to Tech 3 and get those tanks, of course it won't work well for you if you're playing a multi-player match and your team is wanking off while you're fighting 2 or even 3 armies, but that the deal with everyone.

Breaking the Clutch He used to be my absolute favorite the first couple seasons. But then more DLC and patches came out, plus I always choke my build with him. (I placed Forgy in the wrong place on the list)
If they want to make Isabel viable again they need to make scorpions better they nerfed canister shell and now it cant do shit to infantry, Kinsano they need to fix flamers and make them better anti infantry and building and all that abilities need a slight buff Cutter they need to reverse whatever they did to him on that last nerf cause that was unnecessary, Anders Idk what they can do to fix her replace her hornets with hawks is all I can think of

Breaking the Clutch the sentinels are better as support unit they're not the best at killing bases but they're way better at killing their hard counter and stunning them. She shines better with her r&d ability she can out tech any leader in the game being able to research upgrades cheaper and faster
Batnab or they can add that sentinel from spearbreaker as a hero for anders somehow... she could have two heroes, something unique

The list as a whole I would say is mostly accurate and well done. However, There would be two alterations that i would make. First I would put Colony in tier one, he is just overall such a dominating force and I feel like there is no time in the game where he falls short. He remains powerful all the way through into the late game. The second change would be switching Isabel and Cutter. Isabel has a solid midgame with Acc Assembly hogs that while not quite as strong as forge, can set her up for late game dominance. And Alice with chain-gun can easily handle infantry pushes. Now this is mostly in 3v3s, and i feel that she definitely lacks presence in 2s and 1s. However, Cutter is even worse. His drops are almost worthless with the nerfs to their veterency, and with the nerfs to cyclopes and raid, he gets shredded if he builds any types of infantry which are his bread and butter. Combine that with the fact that his CAS gunships can be shot down by a couple of AA units and I don't see him being viable at any stage of the game.

Anders in my opinion is really hard to deal with when the opponents use those sentinals. The hit and run tactics are really good cuz they fly so fast. I use to play Anders but now i am playing Serina.
Isabel hornet clone is amazing, I suppose it's the only time I can use her.
shipmaster+colony at my #1. Jerome+Atriox at #2. Johnson is that leader for me where i get steamrolled by him and get steamrolled when i use him
Isabel is viable is you use her for vehicles, because you can decrease the build time and bombard the base with tanks or warthog rush
I want them to buff Isabel's ghost in the machine ability it seem to me as if it lasts like 10 seconds which might seem long enough to turn a fight you actually get around 8 since the units have a little "animation" of getting hacked
Tier 4: Johnson, too many useless abilities that can be easily replaced.
Tier 3 D: Kisano, Weak late game but strong if you get a strong early game attack due to being able to keep your army veteran and max population.
Tier 3 C: Cutter, I love his abilities but the close air support is too easy to avoid.
Tier 3 B: Anders, For the same reason you put her here. Air is vulnerable and so her abilities alone are lacking.
Tier 3 A: Yap Yap, A ton of useless abilities and units. I wish it weren't true but it is. I LOVE the heavy grunts and the brute riders but the others are underwhelming. The wagon is limited at best. Cannon fodder are good scouts and recourse gathers but not worth the pop cap in combat (not complaining). The grunt mechs need a buff since 2 of them die to a forge hog. Many of his abilities are very lacking as well. The only decent abilities are the methane party, Don't shoot, Turret drop, Shield drop, and the Spirit drop is okay.
Tier 2 A: Shipmaster, A amazing and bad ass leader with the ability to cut entire armies in half while the other half gets torn apart, Surround his foes with the early game teleport ability. Then when finally outgunned and outnumbered he can extract his most powerful units back to his base for healing and on top of that the heal from extraction HEALS the base! With mass cloaking for the ill prepared foes you can do tons of damage with this leader! With a well coordinated team and strong communication the tactical gateway can and will be the bane of the enemy's existence after 3 full armies march through destroying all in their path. Then one of very few heroes of any real worth late game the honor guard (who kills the arbiter in a 1v1 easily) can be used for so many uses such as scouting to destroying a base (yes I have destroyed bases with just an honor guard until he rage quit.) Like a fighting game the strength of this leader is how you combo all his abilities. However the one thing that I don't like about him is that He is a lone wolf and support is limited to the units he makes. Still a very strong leader!
Tier 2 B: Jerome, I've hated this prick from release! I hated that he was cutter's hero and now a leader, I hated how OP he was and most of all I hate how many heroes he has. 5! 3 can highjack which can cost you about half an army. plus the mantis which can protect jerome if he is low on health plus he can call in another AND on top of that he deals tons of damage when he calls it down. I've pulled off 1v3 games with this son of a bitch. With the inspire abilities and the instant veteran ability he is a dangerous threat when left to grow.
Tier 2 C: Colony, Strong late game and when left alone long enough he will become the most resilient leader in the game tied with Serina. With a moderate heal ability and a strong hunters brand with a over time healing effect he is strong and the skitterers are a creative touch but late game are not used. He also has several abilities that are not as useful such as the living barrier. I wish he was stronger but HE still has a respectable spot on this list.
Tier 2 D: Isabel, I love her tanks (cheap alternative to grizzlies while having more population space) Her mac blast seems some more powerful than others somehow. Her accelerated assembly makes her tanks so much better. Her ghost in the machine ability WHEN EXECUTED PROPERLY will leave them with only a quarter army and then you wipe that out too. VERY underrated.
Tier 2 D: Arbiter. VERY strong late game. (after about an hour) when you have triple plasma bolt and the faster recharge AND the AOE ability maxed with the mass stasis and cloak. But without all that he is incomplete. Was a beast against forge hogs though.

It was probably season 3 as I mained her then and her canister shell would take out like 10 Cyclopes she was pretty powerful back then but was still vulnerable early game
I agree with this a lot. I think (still not totally sure) that Atriox should be in the top tier. The supply curve change and the massive unbreakable discount makes him quite good now because of the financial ability to buy any expo spot he wants when wants, the ability to afford gen's quickly and the ability to win all engagements via unbreakable and bulwark I think is enough, in the right hands, to put him in a top tier.

I don't know if you've played the game since Yap Yap came out, but Kinsano is a solid pick now that most people will be choosing infantry.
Also, just a suggestion for the Isabel idea, what if they added more abilities for Isabel from the Spearbreaker missions? They could even give her that ODST hero, give her mechs like its talked about in the mission, just overhaul her. Just my opinion though

I play mostly Anders. She's weird. If I can get to tier 2 and start building sentinels without getting attacked I'm usually in good shape. Hit and run tactics, take out ancillary bases and get out before my force gets wiped, tightening the noose. That all goes really really well. When it comes to actually closing the deal, maybe taking out a headquarters or the banished equivalent, it's much harder. Played a 1v last night against a Yap Yap that just. would. not. end. Finally caught the other guy out of position and took out his last base but that shit ran well over an hour.

I agree on the most part and especially Isabel, I think she should get a reworked. Like I said if we were going to have another véhicules base character at least make it more of a counter part of Forge or at least mor unique. One thing I disagree with you is on Cutter maybe a little bias here cause I am a Cutter main and only been playing him since the dawn of time cause of his ODST.
I know as I type this a lot of people won't agree with me of what I am going to say about Cutter but I feel like he is extremely strong or close to OP. Best perk in general from him is his ODST. There is no other leader power than the ODST every time ai play Cutter I use ODST for any situation infantry army gets destroyed by them and the explosions weakens vehical but the best thing I like about them is the stun they bring. Gaining that few extra secounds ahead of your opponent can mean the win for the fight. His leader powers are great for every situation except Air. Air is the only biggest struggle he has as He has only one wolverine to deploy to take them out and is expensive. However you can spam Marines with Rockets and will be decent but slow.
I just think he is the most flexible leader in the game, needed help with a team fight let me deploy anti-infantry, need counter vehicale? Cyclops, need an army? Let me just drop a squad. Stunnning armies while doing this is so great to. Only two people ai think Cutter has trouble with is Forge and don't get me started on Kisano... she is a pain and with the nerf of Cyclops makes it the biggest struggle with Cutter. Her leader powers counter Cutters.

If your focus is going to be on Locust, Shipmaster is the way to go. Teleport in and out, keeping your locust alive. Using dying breath is to accept the death of your units. I prefer to keep them alive. - Nick

I think Arbiter deserves a higher rank because of the 2 Scarab with just the rest engineers or even just straight up three scarabs can be unstoppable. Other than that great vid!

The leaders are more tightly balanced now than they've been before imo. Isabel isn't very unique but later in the game with the right leader powers she buffs the tanks to a very powerful state (best offense [extra health, shield, larger canister] combine with heavy metal and aac asembly for quick cheap production and combat salvage for obvious reasons, This is 5 leader points for this combo). Alice's pound has been buffed in the last patch and is very useful early game for Isabel. She is definitely not the strongest but it doesn't mean she's bad. Scorpions need to do a touch more damage imo. Atm I would say Decimus is the strongest leader due to vortex, passive combos and strong af hero unit with an insanely strong ability. Give Warlord some some engineers and he mucks people up early and late.

Professor Anders- my strategy is to use the Sentinel Beacon and just do a Kodiak charge on them and destroy the enemy and protect my bases and my friends faces
Kinsano need to be in at least two. Her fire hogs are amazing, and a late game ring of fire is helpful.
Isabelle is honestly meh, I'd put her near Cutter then have Anders above them, I do like YapYap who I think is fun and mediocre but I've only been playing with him for two days. I personally enjoy arbiter and his phantoms, if you want quick mobile infantry, arbiter is the best in my opinion, yes unsc and banished raid increase the movement speed of infantry but nothing beats going over every obstacle in your way, I personally pair phantoms with elite enforcers and hunters for hit and run situations or just annihilating a base and enemy force, there's a lot of applicability with his phantoms except anti air in my opinion. His stasis is great if someone tries to go for a counter attack, you stasis and bring your units back by the time your back your forces will be destroying the enemies, also there's great cooperative ability, a few situations I found my teammate having to deal with a entire army of sentinels I stasis half of them letting my teammate destroy half easily then they destroy the other half, the arbiter himself I can't say much about rather than a 7/10 leader, decent upgrades but the upgrades add a new attribute 2/3 upgrades at least. I recently got Arbi and these are my thoughts and experiences on why I like him

To be honest I love colony I don't see him being in tier 2 because all you really need to do is get three of those little drone thingies attach them to a Scarab and then at that point just make your normal Army then after that and get combat repair so you don't have to waste time getting engineers and then you just wreck house at that point with wrath's reavers Marauders Goliath's Hunters and a couple Banshees for a little bit of a scouting purpose and then of course the hunter captain and then just go to any base and whether it be a mini Base or normal base and they're going to be gone in two seconds there is some leader powers that he has to arcana useless and no way of living barrier and sometimes very rarely this comes in to use but devastating host but in the way of healing himself the only healing abilities he has I can name off the bat at least is combat repairs and Engineers swarm anyway sorry about the rant I'm just at the say that

Before the serina nerf I was doing 2v2 as arbiter and had a teammate as serina playing against forge and atriox
I was doing the arbiter enforcer rush
So I finished my build and started to push my teammate wasn't doing much but had loads of economy
Atriox had scouted me and say I was hitting forge so he sent all defenses to him my units got there when I noticed serina had absolutely pumped frost ravens (I think that's their name) and just started using leader powers to freeze everything
Killed troops and froze buildings so no more troops came through
We destroyed them

Kinsano is the only true Counter rush in the game, she is (imo) is a must have in 3v3
Arby is top teir (imo) if you have someone target AA you can easily dominate from the air if you mix units in the phantoms and even on the ground his infantry can outclass most leaders
Jerome, I think teir 2 at most, the APC is trash and omega team is great but can be shut down if the other team prepares for them (this could be outdated I have not faced a Jerome in some time, other than blitz)
I really enjoyed joining the live stream it was cool not only to see your face but also to get beat so terribly at the hands of yourself. Maybe a separate channel twice a week would be great as well I work a lot so many opportunities is fine by me. Gamer tag is Justxxice btw.
