    I'm jealous as hell of your positivity, and your great personal grounding. I'm new at this, left leg below knee amputee, and Charcot Foot on my right, which will likely be amputated soon, it's very deformed. I'm watching, taking notes, and trying what I can to follow you well. Thank you for what you do, I appreciate you greatly.

    Getting my prosthetis leg was really beneficial in getting in and out of my truck. I didn't even try it before I had my prosthesis and confined to a wheelchair. Back then I had help getting in a vehicle and stowing my heavy wheelchair.

      The key is to not stop moving and not get fat. I am 57 and do those things all the time. I am too short to reach some of my kitchen cabinets, so I just climb up onto the counter. If you practice sitting on the floor and getting up without using your hands it can help.

    I've learned to be careful and know my limitations. My fake leg works fine. My good leg is still healing. I'm working slow but sure on building up my strength. Along with this comes confidence. In the mean time, I try to stay off the roof of my car. It's my intention to learn to ride a unicycle though. I'm pretty sure it would help a lot with my balance. In time.

    Hi there, just a quick question on your comment "your'e not supposed to hop as an amputee". Is it mostly about the danger of falling or is there another reason for saying it? I'm a recent trauma RTKA myself and am just at the point where I'm starting to hop around in the house now that all the bandages are off.

    • @AmputeeOT
      @AmputeeOT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the danger of falling and uneccesary impact to your remaining joints.

    Not an amputee, but I tend to load my chair into the backseat, with the footplate hooked over the rear headrest to keep my bag accessible. I actually miss my manual seats instead of the power recline for this, just because leaning the seat takes so long to lean back/forward now each time I want to load in and out.

    Putting the chair in the passenger seat can be dangerous as well if the chair is not secured as flying bits of metal may hurt.

    Why are amputees not supposed to hop? Any more than us with all our full limbs?

    • @AmputeeOT
      @AmputeeOT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because it adds unnecessary stress to our remaining limb. If we are hopping and twist an ankle, that’s the only organic ankle we’ve got. Years of hopping can cause premature wear to joints, resulting in arthritis.
